Sustainability Policy and Green Growth of the South Korean Construction IndustryJeong, Hwayeon 2011 August 1900 (has links)
South Korea is among a host of countries trying to achieve sustainable development across whole industry sectors by adopting "Green Growth" as the vision of the national development in the Korean government. The government has executed a vast effort regarding the policy, and these efforts have produced several successful results. However, the vision of the Green Growth does not appear to be settled in the construction industry, which is a sector that has a huge impact on sustainability and has made striking economic impacts over the last several decades to Korea's growth and development.
Although the performances under the Green Growth are difficult to be evaluated because the Green Growth policy is now in the process of revisions and supplement, this is the time to diagnose the current situation and efforts of Green Growth in the Korean construction industry. A primary goal of the thesis is developing a preliminary framework to promote Green Growth in the Korean construction industry in order to reduce possible trials and errors in the early phase of the implementation of Green Growth.
To accomplish this goal, a detailed analysis of the current Korean sustainability system, Green Growth, was then undertaken given this is the current policy guidance for the Korean construction industry. To garner further input on the direction of sustainability policy and methods in Korea, in-depth interviews with professionals in relevant construction-related businesses were conducted. In addition, the study conducts an analysis how sustainable development has occurred in the U.S. construction industry to determine what the driving forces that could transfer and be of assistance to Korea.
A preliminary sustainability system framework is developed along with associated guidelines. The guidelines suggest that sustainability policy directed towards the Korean construction industry should be apparent so that stakeholder can implement it with consistency and detail. Also suggested is a movement away from the current policy that largely focuses on green building to one that is more holistic and includes infrastructure and other aspects of the built, environmental, and socio-economic systems. In this light, the primary concept of the policy aligns with the sustainability concept of the triple bottom line: environment, economy and society. Through the feedback from a performance measurement system, the policy is evaluated and is adjusted to stimulate the Green Growth over the construction industry in South Korea.

Etika a ekonomie v průběhu dějin ekonomického myšlení / Ethics and Economics in the Course of Economic Thinking HistoryPODHOROVÁ, Nikola January 2016 (has links)
"Ethics and Economics in the Course of Economic Thinking History" is the essay topic of the disertation. It aims at the description and definition of both terms in the history and it refers to their interactive links and separation in the past. Firstly, both terms are explained and then the most significant representatives and trends are mentioned. Due to their thoughts, ideas and opinions there was a possibility to develop the individual sciences. The theoretical part pays attention to current terms Green Economy and Green Growth which should help to solve the questions of the environment and its saving in the future. Both terms try to find the right solution that would reduce the environmental risks, decrease poverty and support economic growth with the tenable development, and other important topics. The practical part also pays attention to Green Economy. A wide range of societies is questioned about their awareness of the term Green Economy and other things that are connected with it. The survey was made in the South Bohemia region where a big number of societies was addressed. The result shows that more than a half of respondents is not aware of the term Green Economy at all. However they use and follow Green Economy principles so that they respect and live up to them unknowingly.

Green growth and decoupling as legitimation strategies : How businesses manage the incompatibility of economic growth and corporate environmental sustainability / Grön tillväxt och frikoppling som legitimeringsstrategierBalsvik, Jonathan January 2020 (has links)
International organisations and global businesses aim to achieve green growth through the decoupling of economic growth and environmental impacts. However, increased evidence calls into question the approach of green growth, that has been adopted by international institutions such as the UN and the OECD. The current indication is that there is no significant decoupling taking place and substantial theoretical barriers remain for it to occur. From that basis I investigate how businesses use narratives related to decoupling and green growth to manage legitimacy while pursuing the conflicting goals of both economic growth and environmental sustainability. This is achieved through document analysis and thematic analysis of sustainability reports from 50 of the world’s largest transnational corporations. The narratives are then analysed from the perspective of legitimacy theory. I identify seven narratives: i) Businesses recognise the problems, ii) Action is being taken, iii) Goals have basis in science, iv) Technology and innovation provide the solutions, v) Businesses offer crucial benefits, vi) Businesses are at the hands of demand and vii) External action is needed. These are then derived into strategies using legitimacy theory and two overarching themes are identified, the narratives mitigating businesses' negative ties to environmental impacts and communicate that businesses are conforming to societal expectations. The narrative findings and legitimacy strategies show similarities with previous research, while the latter also makes new contributions to the field. The novel findings that have not been discussed in the context of sustainability reports previously are customer demand, external action from governments, and the emphasis on technology and innovation paving the way for green growth. Furthermore, businesses are shown to pay little attention to barriers towards green growth and the findings give clear indication that companies are currently dedicated to the sustainability approach of green growth despite the lack of scientific evidence.

La Responsabilité Sociétale des Entreprises : un levier pour la durabilité écologique. Validation empirique pour la Méditerranée / The Corporate social responsibility : a lever for the ecological durability. Empirical Validation for the Mediterranean SeaBen Abdallah Golli, Olfa 01 December 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to the study of the role of State intervention in the Mediterranean countries, and this in the promotion of the responsible approach. This doctoral work provides a general review of the study of the role of environmental factors in the context of sustainable qualified development. It discusses, among other things, changes in the perception of CSR policy in the Mediterranean region. In our study on CSR, we focus our research on both voluntary and obligatory approaches, following institutional constraints, and subject them to comparison. In doing so, we focus in particular on how the CSR concept has been strongly related to the notion of environmental sustainability. The first part of this work presents an exhaustive and critical review of the literature on responsible approaches. In the second part, which is essentially factual, we frame the empirical and institutional foundations of a green growth model. Estimation and validation are presented at the last chapter level. The results highlight the relationship between CSR and governance as regards sustainable growth and sustainable environmental-friendly growth, at the macroeconomic level. The results obtained allow us to confirm that firstly, CSR plays a positive role in order to improve the quality of the environment. Secondly, various approaches overlap and tie together to propose environmental-performance scenarios throughout the Mediterranean.Thirdly, it appears that the restrictive intervention of the state weakens CRE efficiency, added to this the impact on -CSR- of the disparity at the institutional level and between countries of different development level. Finally, according to the results obtained, we believe that the interaction between the will and the duty to carry out responsible actions could in turn constitute/ lead to a perfection in terms of ecological sustainability for Mediterranean-bordering countries.

"A Norrland before, and a Norrland after?" : Exploring re-industrialization, as an example of green growth, through the reproduction of space and planetary urbanization in Northern Sweden.Oskarsson, Anna January 2023 (has links)
The dominant discourse often presents green growth as a solution to the ongoing environmental and climate crisis. However, it exists an unclear understanding of what green growth means in various contexts. This thesis aims to explore re-industrialization in Northern Sweden as an example of green growth, focusing on understanding the meaning and spatial implications of green growth within the context of Norrland. Tworesearch questions are put forward to study the framing of the re-industrialization and how it reproduces Norrland as space and place. 68 Swedish media articles from 2010 to 2023 covering different geographical scales were selected and processed with a qualitative content analysis method, using framing theory. The results show that reindustrialization in Norrland is framed in plural ways, emphasizing growth and development opportunities as well as concerns for Indigenous rights, human well-being, and justice. The dominant framing reinforces Norrland´s subordination to growth centers, while alternative framings highlight a broader understanding of the region’s multifaceted dimensions, raising questions about equitable distribution and the spatial power dynamics of green growth, moving the discussion away from urban-rural dichotomies. The study contributes to an understanding of the spatial implications of green growth in Norrland, challenging rural-urban dichotomies and highlighting contested values.

Are renewable sources displacing fossil fuels in electricity generation? : A panel data investigation on global dataSörling, Andreas January 2023 (has links)
As the consequences of climate change is increasing the need of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy globally is becoming more urgent. A central question that has been questioned in the literature is that if the world is on track on a transition away from fossil fuels or if we are only adding renewable energy to the energy mix in a world that continues to grow and consume more energy. Because of the above mentioned, this thesis aims to investigate if the increased generation of electricity from renewable sources are displacing the generation of electricity from fossil fuels. This is tested using a time and country fixed effects model including 176 countries with yearly observations from 2000 to 2020. The result from the regression showed that one additional kWh electricity generated from renewable sources has not statistically managed to displace one kWh of electricity generated from fossil fuels, net of controls. Previous studies using a similar methodology but on older time frames has shown result were almost no displacement has occurred when renewable sources have been added. The result from this thesis should not be interpreted as that the transition is not going to happen since it might be that the global initiatives taken around the globe to make the transition happenis not get visible in the numbers used in thesis, but the result does on the other hand indicate that several economic, political, and social factors has made the transition to renewables difficult, and that we should not assume that renewable energy will replace fossil fuels for electricity generation without policy measures that supports the transition.

The UAE’s “National Climate Change Plan 2017-2050” covered in Al KhaleejHolmbukt, Vivik January 2021 (has links)
This study examines the coverage of the United Arab Emirates’ National Climate Change Plan in Al Khaleej, one of the major Arabic daily newspapers in the country, by analysing a selection of articles covering this plan using analytical concepts and methods from CDA and drawing upon theories of media framing and green growth and green economy. The results show that the Climate Plan is presented as a metaphoric unifier of existing climate policies and a tool to promote the UAE as a pioneer in renewables. The issue of climate change in general is framed as a challenge to economic growth, but a challenge that can be overcome through technological innovation and redirecting the economy.
