This Thesis consists in a critical analysis of the controversy and its rationality, the soft rationality, as they are conceived by Marcelo Dascal. The controversy (and its soft rationality) is one type of the Dascal’s ideal types of polemical interactions trichotomy, which is formed, yet, by discussion (and its hard rationality) – the ideal intellectual debate model – and dispute (and its irrationality). Although the polemical interactions are field for rational activity of rationality, in the philosophy of science, ideal visions of scientific practice characterized the polemics as marginal phenomena in the history of science, ignoring them as the proper place for the critical development of the scientific knowledge. The polemical interactions, in this work, are explored by a pragmatical referential, because Dascal indicates the Grice-based pragmatics as the initial instrument for the analysis of the controversies. At the same time that we corroborate this indication, we try to show that the gricean pragmatics is proper to this aim precisely because it is guided by a soft rationality (the rationality issue is pointed, but little explored by Paul Grice). The propounded thesis is that the Dascal’s theory about the controversy and the soft rationality propitiate rereading about the critical activity in science (and about the critical activity in general). Previously, such an activity was conceived only in the terms of discussion and dispute and their (ir)rationalities – redeeming aspects that were ignored, or classified as rationally intractable, and relegated to irrationalism, and launching new perspectives for knowledge and for our lives. The focus on the hard model of rationality overshadowed – and even denied – other possibilities for reason. Nevertheless, already in Aristotle there are different conceptions of rationality (for different knowledges), which still contribute to philosophy. Therefore, we seek to ascertain Marcelo Dascal’s proposal with Aristotle’s, those points on which Dascal’s theory of rationality is innovating. We aim, at starting from the investigation about the conceptualization, the scope of work and the strategies employed by the controversy and its soft rationality, to present the philosophical consequences of this polemic and its rationality: the de-dichotomization, the dialectics of tolerance, the viability of reasonable or convincing conclusions, the possibility of innovating ideas emersion, the consideration of the roles of audience and context in intellectual polemics (and in polemics in general).

A Qualitative Study on the Relation between theCooperation Principle, Metaphors and Similes in ConversationWikhede, Simone January 2013 (has links)

Sémantický web v konfrontaci s Peircovým pojetím sémiotiky / Semantic web in confrontation with Peirce's SemioticsŘeháčková, Dana January 2017 (has links)
The Semantic web was created for a purpose of conceptualization data available on the Internet. Through formalized representations, that are determined for data sharing and reusing, should have been its vision realized. Main aims of Semantic web are high exactness and relevance for searching question. The controversy and polysemy of the term "Semantic web" let us consider the question: "Where is the limit of involving semantic aspects provided on Semantic web?" Is it not only the amount of determinations of specific standards that are connected with data itself? The main aim of this thesis is the comparison of using terms on the Semantic web in semantic metadiscourse with traditional academic semiotics approaches appeared from pragmatic of Ch. S. Peirce, Ch. W. Morris and H. P. Grice. The thesis should help with mapping the problematic area that is connected with using terms like "meaning" and "understanding" and clarify the possibilities of the function of the Semantic web based on the semiotics conceptions.

The main thesis aim is to clarify the function of semantic web, basically its function and its conception, by comparation academic's semiotics' approaches of pragmaticism Ch. S. Peirce and pragmatism H.P. Grice to help with mapping the problematic area which is connected with using terms such as "meaning," and "understanding," and to explore and make less confused the possibilities of the function of the Semantic web.

La construction textuelle du brevet d'invention : analyse et théorisation de la strate contributionnelle / Textual construction of the patent : analysis and theorization of the contributional layerBorderieux, Julien 02 December 2013 (has links)
The present work looks into the textual construction of the patent (very standardized specialized type of text) by the study of pragmatical constraints which structure it and in particular of the constraints which define it as a contribution in a Gricean (Grice), post-Gricean (Nemo, Portuguès) and non-Gricean (Clark and Schaefer) meaning. This work studies the textual strategies involved, particularly in terms of the rhetoric of claiming, by examining over its particular format in which are isolated recurring and autonomous elements, - the contributional sets, and their connections. The first part presents a contributional approach of patents as texts, describing patent text as a contributional object and discussing the way the confrontation with hyper-formatted and strongly constrained textual data may lead to reconsider and reformulate contributional maxims. The corpus of study consists of a textual data base of patents which is then formatted into contributional data. The analysis of this contributional data allows a contributional modeling of the patent text based on markers which defined contributional groups subject to general master scheme which is invariable, predictable and reproducible. This phase of modeling provides an opportunity to partly reformulate the Gricean maxims which frame the production of the contributional groups. Using a plurisemic approach of interpretation, the end of the study intends to release the properties of the contributional layer, by showing in particular that the constraint of exhaustivity which is at work in the construction of the text through various sub-contributions leads to the emergence of a mechanical text, with its laws and constraints, based on contributional chains specific to very formatted texts and more general texts alike. These considerations on the contributional material of the texts allow an approach to the foundations of a contributional theory of text.
