: En kvalitativ studie / The school nurse´s experiences of health conversation with newly arrived foreign students in high school. : A Qualitative study

Backström, Susanne, Imhof, Mathilda January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to investigate and disclose the experiences that school nurses encounter, in regard to health consultations, with newly arrived foreign students. The study had a qualitative design and was composed of semi structured interviews with an applied inductive approach. In total, seven interviews were performed with separate school nurses from the counties of Västernorrland and Stockholm. The interview material was processed through a content analysis. The results from the study indicated a theme of " being more than a school nurse" was composed of three main constituents; "To be challenged in one´s profession as a school nurse in health consultations" "To be enriched in one's profession in regard to health consultations" "To be inadequate in the health consultations as a school nurse" Based on both positive and negative factors, all school nurses affirmed that the meeting with the newly arrived foreign students, in regard to health consultations, resulted in being more than a school nurse. Health consultations with the students involved different types of challenges that consisted of inadequate guidelines, knowledge, time and resources. In spite of the challenges posed by the findings in this report, the school nurses asserted that they inched forward. The school nurses argued that they were enriched in their role in relation to the health consultations, which resulted in a sense of satisfaction and a commitment of wanting to help and be there for these students on a deeper level. The nurses reported a feeling of being inadequate during the consultations with the students, which brought forth feelings of insecurity, frustration and helplessness with the nurses. They reported that even their professional disposition had been affected. All participants in this study agreed that current high school health consultation guidelines were inadequate and confirmed that they lacked some knowledge in regard to cultural differences. The participants also requested guidance in their work involving newly arrived foreign students.

Consultation in the School Psychology Literature: Has the Field Moved beyond the Three Traditional Models?

Seibert, Michelle L. 01 May 2010 (has links)
Consultation is a crucial role for school psychology practitioners. Psychologists routinely use consultation within the schools and actually wish they could spend more of their work hours on this activity. However, when authors write about consultation in the school psychology literature, they use numerous terms and phrases, which cause confusion as to what models of consultation are prominent in the field. The focus of the current study is to examine the articles that mention consultation in School Psychology Review (Digest) in order to determine whether the three traditional models (behavioral, mental health, and organizational consultation) are still prominent in consultation research and school psychology literature. Analyses of all articles containing the word "consultation" and all words preceding the word "consultation" were done to find the most frequently mentioned consultation terms. Analyses were then done on just the consultation research articles as well as other sources in order to find which terms are most frequently mentioned as part of studies and how the most prominent terms originated. The findings revealed that while behavioral consultation seems to be the traditional model still dominating the literature, mental health and organizational are beginning to fall behind in a shift from using specific models to more frequently using generic terms such as school, school-based or teacher consultation.

Att upptäcka ätstörning hos skolelever utifrån skolsköterskors erfarenheter : En kvalitativ studie

Gregefalk, Eva, Lagbo, Åsa January 2017 (has links)
abstract Background: Research shows that eating disorders among school students are becoming increasingly common both nationally and internationally. It occurs most in girls but is also increasing among boys. Estimately 10% suffers from eating disorder symptoms. About 4-5% of girls have ever suffered from a serious eating disorder in Sweden. It is important to discover these schoolchildren as the consequences can lead to serious health problems with the longevity, sometimes chronic progression and in worst case death. Purpose: Describe the school nurse's experience of detecting eating disorders among school students. Method: Ten semistructured interviews were conducted with school nurses. The interviews were analyzed based on a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Result: The school nurse detects eating disorders through his health promotion work in both planned and spontaneous health visits, but also by paying attention to the risk signals of school students as deviating behavior meanwhile having a gender perspective. The nurse was dependent on other people's information, such as educators, friends, external staff, parents and the actual school student to detect eating disorders. School nurses have good knowledge but no experience detecting it. Education and clear guidelines were sought sines uncertainty was experienced in detecting eating disorders. Conclusion: Student health care lacked guidelines and work routines to detect eating disorders. Therefore, it is important to develop and modernize clear guidelines, which would mean that school nurses would discover more schoolchildren and thereby reduce suffering. Community psychology as social science : towards an ecosystemic alternative

Appelbaum, Karen 11 1900 (has links)
This study disaggregates and evaluates conventional community psychology as reflected in both the Community Mental Health and Social Action Models. In so doing, it provides evidence in support of its plea for a radical paradigm shift towards ecosystemic theorising in the field of community psycho logy. It further illustrates that an ecosystemic point of departure would have significant implications for the reformulation of conventional notions of community. It concludes by teasing out some alternative praxis related community psychological formulations. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)
