Santos, das ruinas às restaurações: 4 estudos / Santos, from ruins to restorations: 4 studies

Sampaio, Edson Luis da Costa 12 May 2017 (has links)
Before it has specific legislation for the protection of cultural heritage, the city of Santos suffered considerable losses in relation to its built memory, with the modernization and expansion of its port, driven by the export economy. In opposing to these losses, several manifestations and debates emerged from the 1970s in favor of preservation in Santos. In this way, several requests for registration were made to the official preservation agencies and in the late 1980s the process of implementing preservation policies in the Municipality began, with the creation of the Council for the Defense of the Cultural Heritage of Santos (CONDEPASA). Thus, the objectives of this research are to contextualize the role played by the preservation organs, the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN), the Council for the Defense of Historic, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourist Heritage (CONDEPHAAT) and CONDEPASA, besides presenting and analyzing The Municipal Preservation Programs that contributed to the revitalization of the historic center. To better understand this process, four restoration works will also be analyzed: Casarão Branco da Praia, Outeiro de Santa Catarina, Guarany Theater and Casarões do Valongo.

Taxonomia de Acanthobothrium Blanchard, 1848, Rhinebothrium Linton, 1890 e Anindobothrium Marques, Brooks & Lasso, 2001 parasitas das espécies anfi-Americanas de Himantura (Chondrichthyes: Myliobatiformes) / Taxonomy of Acanthobothrium Blanchard, 1848, Rhinebothrium Linton, 1890 and Anindobothrium Marques, Brooks & Lasso, 2001 parasites from amphi-American species of Himantura (Chondrichthyes: Myliobatiformes)

Trevisan, Bruna 13 July 2016 (has links)
Por fim, algumas abordagens utilizadas neste estudo ilustram os benefícios de integrar diferentes bases de dados no refinamento taxonômico destes grupos dentro do conceito do que hoje reconhecemos como taxonomia integrativa / Studies on the co-evolution require accurate taxonomic and phylogenetic information to unambiguously establish associations within the lineages involved. Therefore, the present study identified marine parasite lineages from amphi-American species of Himantura Müller & Henle, H. schmardae (Werner) and H. pacifica (Beebe & Tee-Van). These hosts are considered the sister-group of potamotrygonids, which are Neotropical freshwater stingrays restricted to river systems in South America. Our motivation was the contribution on sound taxonomic grounds, in order to elucidate the historical associations among freshwater batoids, their alleged marine sister-group and their cestode parasites. To achieve this goal, we documented the fauna of three genera of cestodes, whose lineages can be found both in marine and freshwater stingrays, namely Acanthobothrium Blanchard, 1948, Anindobothrium Marques, Brooks & Lasso, 2001 and Rhinebothrium Linton, 1890. Each chapter addresses each genus separately. Our results consist of descriptions of 11 species new to science, among which seven are found parasitizing H. schmardae and 4 infecting H. pacifica. Furthermore, redescriptions are provided for three species detected in H. schmardae. All descriptions and redescriptions were based on an unprecedented number of specimens and included data obtained from histology, ligth microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In addition to the taxonomic approach, we evaluated the phylogenetic relationships of Acanthobothrium and Anindobothrium. Molecular data from both genera revealed the congruence between the known patterns of host relationships and their parasites. The parasitological data presented in this study supports the recent hypothesis that potamotrygonids and amphi-American species of Himantura share a common ancestor. Moreover, the combined approach applied in this study illustrates the benefits of integrating different data sources for the taxonomic refinement of these groups within the concept of integrative taxonomy

Stealing Home: How American Society Preserves Major League Baseball Stadiums, Ballparks, & Fields

Grilc, Brandon 17 October 2014 (has links)
This study focuses on a cultural phenomenon that is driven by the demolition of Major League Baseball stadiums, ballparks, and fields. Prompted by their inherent role in the evolution of the sport and the inadequacies of the existing historic preservation framework, this study examines how American society preserves this utilitarian form, after their demolition, through observations, data collection, and analysis. In doing so, this study exposes that Major League Baseball stadiums, ballparks, and fields are preserved through the use of nine overlapping preservation methods, which memorialize five significant features. However, though these preservation methods do not prevent Major League Baseball stadiums from being demolished, they do illustrate how our society alternatively preserves historically and culturally significant resources when the existing historic preservation framework is rendered incompatible.

Petrella, Yara Ligia Mello Moreira 05 May 2008 (has links)
Através de ensaios exploratórios, se reconstitui os traços das argamassas e identificam processos de danos / This thesis refers to the study of the building of Museu Paulista and identifies the characteristics of the traditional masonries constructions techniques that involves the structural systems and the materials used. It describes the historical circumstances and of the evolution of taipa to brick and the inclusion of the building of Museu Paulista in the city of São Paulo in the middle of XIX th Century. It also analyses the characteristics that differs one history and modern build structural solutions and the nature of materials. The main structural systems are constituted by walls, right feet, arch and vault, pilaster and colums, wooden floor, abobadilha, and foundation. The materials are analysed in the several aspects such as the presence of constant humidity, that occurs when there isnt the impermeabilization of the foundations; presence of solubles salts; the porosity of materials; the presence of microorganism and the type of paint used in the painting. Through the history intervations it is verified that amount them there are some generated caused damage to the building due the fact that the specified characteristics were not taken account of. Through the exploratories essays it is reconstructed the composition of the mortars and the identification of the damages process.

The Achfa-hammi Plankhouse: Understanding Tribal Architectures in the Realm of Historic Preservation

Rieke, Lauren 03 October 2013 (has links)
After years of assimilation and acculturation, many Native Americans have both the means and strength to assert their unique identity among mainstream America. They have devised various channels for accomplishing this, such as language classes and continuing traditional practices, often using resources offered through State, Federal or Tribal Historic Preservation programs. Constructions of contemporary traditional architecture can be another of these tools used to promote this cultural renaissance. As a field that defines itself on the basis of cultural conservation, Historic Preservation principles claim to support these endeavors; however, because they do not meet the age criteria for "historic structures," such buildings are often left out of the preservation matrix. By examining the Achfa-hammi plankhouse of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, this thesis will address the building's impact on cultural revitalization and explore the disconnect that exists between Historic Preservation policies and new constructions of tribal architectures.

Behind the Scenes: Investigating Processes Shaping Willamette Valley Architecture 1840-1865 With a Case Study in Brownsville

Trexler, Susan 29 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis studies the diffusion of architectural types and the rise of regionally distinct typologies in the Willamette Valley's settlement period (1840-1865) in Oregon. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze the dispersion of architectural types within the Willamette Valley revealed trends amongst the extant settlement architecture samples. Brownsville, Oregon, was identified to have a locally-specific architectural subtype, the closer study of which enabled deeper investigation of the development of architectural landscapes during the Willamette Valley's settlement period. Field and archival research revealed that the appearance of an architectural subtype, at least in Brownsville, was not directly connected to a shared provenance of settlers but rather came about through a number of regionally-specific circumstances, especially an active local carpenter community.

Shaping Whiteclay: Agency and Desire in the Preservation of American Indian Sites

Schwartz, Tracy 29 September 2014 (has links)
Historic preservationists have struggled with how to best interpret the diverse history of the United States. This is especially true when faced with sites that represent the continued colonization of American Indian populations. While preservationists are continually striving to provide a more inclusive history, historic sites remain where preservationists are omitting Native voice, perpetuating stereotypes, and telling history with an emphasis on damage within communities. Whiteclay, Nebraska offers a case study of a site with a complex history where multiple cultures have embedded the same place with different meaning. This thesis argues that through the incorporation of agency, the challenging of stereotypes, and the addition of desire-based research into the historic preservation field, a re-interpretation of Whiteclay, as well as other sites with multifaceted pasts, can emerge and places of colonization can become places of healing.
