Patienters upplevelser av att vänta på en organtransplantation : En ny chans till livet / Patients ‘experiences of waiting for an organ transplant : A new chance of life

Elfström, Olivia, Sandefalk, Malin January 2022 (has links)
Background: The history of transplantation goes back a long time and has been the last resort as a treatment to save a person's life. The availability of organs does not correspond to the need, there are also limited studies on how the patient's health processes are affected during the waiting time for a new organ. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe patientexperiences of waiting for an organ transplant. Method: This literature-based study was based on qualitative research to describe patient experiences of managing the waiting time for an organ transplant. 11 articles were analyzed according to Friberg's (2017) five step model. Results: The article analysis resulted in two main themes and six sub-themes. The main theme New Challenges highlighted that the patients are in need for both support and information during the time that they are waiting for an organ transplant. The second main theme, Emotional stress highlighted what feelings the patient can endure during the waiting time for a transplantation. The feelings of both hope and uncertainty are described by the patients. Conclusion: When nurses take responsibility for the caring and the six areas of competence, which means that patients who are on the waiting list for an organ transplant have their nursing needs met.

Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Predictors of Hope in Adolescents

Wilson, Megan M. B. 01 August 2022 (has links)
Hope is a variable that is defined in research as a positive outlook on one's future and a plan to achieve that future. Hope has been found to be positively correlated with self-esteem, optimism, and life satisfaction, and negatively correlated with suicide ideation and suicidality. However, there is a lack of research on predictors of hope in adolescents. Adolescents compose the age group that could arguably use the goal-oriented and positive outlook that hope provides the most. This study identified predictors of hope (i.e., depression, maternal and paternal support) in adolescents so as to know how society can give adolescents the advantage of hope in their lives. Depression was found to be a negative predictor of hope, and maternal support was found to be a positive predictor of hope. Data was collected from the Flourishing Families Project, a longitudinal study of adolescents.

Mount Zion: Yahweh's Presence, Rule, and Eschatological Hope

Gamey, Shira D. 26 March 2014 (has links)
<p> Mount Zion has long been a focal point for followers of Yahweh, and central to the cultic practices of the Israelites in the Old Testament. A diachronic examination of the spatial significance of Mount Zion in scripture is undertaken along with its contribution to Zion theology. In the Psalter, Mount Zion is a present reality representing the presence of Yahweh and his established kingdom. Isaiah affirms the inviolability of Mount Zion, concluding that Zion will again be the center from which Yahweh will rule. Scripture depicts Mount Zion as the iconic example of Yahweh's desired place to gather the nations, rule and execute his justice and peace that subsequently spills to the whole earth. In Hebrews, the earthly Mount Zion is seen as an archetype of the heavenly reality. Hebrews reminds its audience of the eternal heavenly city of the living God. In this way, the Mount Zion portrayed in the NT points us to our eschatological hope that recalls the images in the Psalter, Isaiah, and other OT passages. The purpose of this work is to bring a better understanding of the biblical references to "Mount Zion" in relation to its geographical location and the implications for the way we think about Zion in the church today.</p> / Thesis / Master of Theological Studies (MTS)

Personers upplevelser av att leva med schizofreni : En deskriptiv litteraturstudie

Hedberg, Paulina, Wendel, Nikki January 2023 (has links)
Background: Schizophrenia is a psychotic illness that affects approximately 0.4% of the world's population. Why people develop schizophrenia has not yet been identified, but a connection can be seen from the people's exposure to environmental factors as well as genetic vulnerability that can increase the risk of developing the disease. Aim: The purpose of the literature study was to compile and describe people's experiences of living with schizophrenia. Method: The literature study was based on 11 scientific articles of a qualitative approach where the content is from previous research in the same subject.Main results: The results show that the participants had different experiences of why they fell ill with schizophrenia. To live with schizophrenia is it important to accept your situation, the illness will not go away. The feeling of hope, belonging and community were important factors for people with schizophrenia to cope with everyday life. Stigma is a large part of the illness that affects people living with schizophrenia. They end up in isolation, are discriminated against both by family and society, which leads to isolation and loneliness. Conclusion: The literature study provides an overview of how people living with schizophrenia experience their illness. People with schizophrenia unfortunately experience that they are treated in a special way just because they have a mental illness in the background. In the results, it was shown that the feeling of hope and belonging was important to cope with the demands of everyday life, accepting one's illness was seen as a strength to deal with the environment in the best way.

Effects of Federal Grant Money on Economic Measures in the Community

Miller, Andrea L 01 January 2016 (has links)
With the concentration of poverty increasing throughout the United States (Kneebone, 2014) there has been a recent emphasis on mixed-income housing as a means to alleviate this issue. By creating housing in one area with pricing for different income levels it is assumed that the burden imposed by concentrated poverty will be lowered. Many years and many dollars later however, the results of mixed-income housing projects on low-income residents seem to be mixed – while some projects have found success, others seem to suggest that it has little to no effect. The federal program HOPE VI is one example of efforts to increase the availability of mixed-income housing. It is the purpose of this study to decipher whether the administration of HOPE VI federal grant money has had an effect on certain economic outcomes within the selected metropolitan areas.

Hope Without Assurance: The Eucatastrophic Nature of Tolkien's Arda

Glavin, Grant 01 January 2022 (has links)
J.R.R. Tolkien’s massive body of work represents decades of effort from a man who, burdened by the suffering and grief of a world he considered to be fallen, wished to combine his love of fairy-stories and mythology with the otherworldly hope of eucatastrophe, Tolkien’s word for unexpected divine joy amid suffering, present at the heart of his strong Catholic beliefs. Tolkien’s world of Arda is consequently full of suffering; it is written as a dark and dangerous place, where dyscatastrophe, the prerequisite suffering before eucatastrophe, exists within the world from its conception and Eden has never been obtainable for Men. By chronologically tracing the existence of suffering in Tolkien’s world, from its origin through the fall of Melkor, to the grievous immortality of the Elves and their possessive love of the world, and finally to the fear of death present in Men, this paper aims to combine these moments of suffering and the underlying hope within them in order to show the necessity of eucatastrophe to Tolkien’s world through several of his major works. By focusing primarily on The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion while showing his use of amdir and estel, the different hopes of Men and Elves, as tools in service of eucatastrophe to highlight the hope present within our own world, this paper argues for eucatastrophe, dyscatastrophe, amdir, and estel as primary components to the major theme of death and immortality within Tolkien’s works, purposeful inclusions designed to give readers a glimpse of joy beyond their own world, which Tolkien held to be the most important function of the fairy-stories he loved.
