Envisioning an inner-city student housing project, adding life to an office-dominated area, and offering a publicly accessible roof terrace and open landscape park. We are proposing a student housing complex, composed of two 355-metres-long buildings with two and three floor levels, respectively, lifted up on pilotis, with corridor rooms and student apartments accomodating a total of 336 students and thus creating a bustling hub of human interactivity. For the proposal, we claim a large strip of land in the southern part of the property “Kvarteret Garnisonen 3” in Östermalm, Stockholm; the southern-most 15 % of the 84 000-square-metre property, previously used as a launching space for ceremonial marches, but currently used mostly for parking spaces and dog walking. Designing the large-scale structure to house many students, with each contributing to the added life to the space, and encouraging human interactions architecturally, by retaining the accessibility of the ground level by way of pilotis, as well as making the roof terrace open to the public, and offering several alternative routes between the levels of the buildings.

A pesquisa aqui efetuada tem por objetivo o estudo do conjunto habitacional Zezinho Magalhães Prado, interpretado como uma expressão dos objetivos modernos que buscavam, através da introdução de processos industriais na construção civil, resolver os problemas sociais, particularmente, a carência de moradias. Tais objetivos foram formulados na Europa após a I Guerra Mundial e aqui no Brasil conheceram uma perspectiva própria, dentre outras questões, justamente em função do atraso industrial do país. Os autores do projeto são os arquitetos Vilanova Artigas, Fábio Penteado e Paulo Mendes da Rocha. O projeto é tido como paradigmático da sua época em termos de concepções e inovações tecnológicas, algumas bem sucedidas, outras não. Através de entrevistas de profissionais envolvidos com o projeto e a obra do conjunto e de material iconográfico e documental, o trabalho busca contribuir para remontar uma parte da história que se perdeu com o fim do órgão que foi responsável pela sua construção, a CECAP (Caixa Estadual de Casas para o Povo). / The paper here developed intends to study the housing project Zezinho Magalhães Prado, interpretated as an expression of the modern goals, searching to solve social problems, in particular the lack of habitation, through the introduction of industrial processes in construction. Those goals were formulated in Europe after the World Was I and here in Brazil a unique perspective was known by that time, among other questions, due to the country\'s industrial underdevelopment. The authors of the design project were Vilanova Artigas, Fábio Penteado and Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The project is known as a paradigm in terms of concept and technological innovations, some of which well succeeded, some of which, not as much. Over interviews with professionals involved to the design project and the construction of the housing project, and iconographic and documental material, this paper intends to contribute to the reconstruction of part of the history that got lost with the end of the public organ responsible for its construction, the CECAP (Caixa Estadual de Casas para o Povo).

O presente trabalho teve o propósito de criar um instrumento de auxilio a tomada de decisão na aquisição de nova habitação, levando em consideração a escala de importância dada pelo usuário ao analisar uma habitação, tendo como base uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a qualidade habitacional e pesquisa de campo sobre o que o usuário considera qualidade em sua habitação.O ambiente escolhido para o desenvolvimento do trabalho foram as regiões urbanas de alta e média densidade demográfica do Estado de São Paulo, onde se pode sentir a presença das imposições do mercado imobiliário. Buscou-se uma aproximação do arquiteto ao usuário indefinido, o qual ao escolher um imóvel em detrimento de outro, estará subsidiando o arquiteto quanto aos quesitos de qualidade que são importantes para ele e sua família. Influenciando com esta escolha também no processo decisório da geração de empreendimentos imobiliários habitacionais futuros, deixando de ser apenas um usuário final e passando a ser um ator dentro do processo decisório. Concluindo, a presente tese levou em conta o que o usuário identifica como qualidade e como ele pode ser auxiliado no processo decisório de aquisição de nova moradia tendo acesso à fatores técnicos e cognitivos, até então visualizados apenas por profissionais da área. / This works purpose is creating an aid instrument for an educated decisionmaking at the acquisition of new housing, taking into consideration the scale of importance given by the user through a survey on what he values and, also by reviewing the current bibliography on housing quality. The elected environments to develop the work were urban regions of high and medium demographic densities in the state of São Paulo, where is possible to detect strong real estate influence. With that focus set, a link between architect and unknown user was pursued, as choosing one property over another, the subject supplies the professional with the information of which are the most relevant quality issues to him and his family. Thus influencing, all the way through, in real state future projects development level, no longer being just a user, but being able to become an actor in the decisionmaking process. To sum up, this thesis took into account what the user identifies as quality and how he can be assisted when acquiring new housing after having contact with technical and cognitive factors previously viewed only by professionals

Thesis (MPA) --University of Limpopo, 2011 / The study aims at investigating the extent to which the Housing Delivery Programme of Government is addressing the backlog in housing provision. In the other hand if Government is not addressing the backlog in housing, it should be established as to what are the casual factors to the failure. The study randomly selected participants from Gravellotte to answer questions in connection with the two housing projects in Gravellotte, as well as officials of the Department of Local Government & Housing and the municipality of Ba-Phalaborwa. Primary data from participants and secondary data from books and journals were used. Qualitative method was more suitable for the study. It has been found that government is continuously providing houses, but the pace does not address the backlog in a quicker way as expected by the community and the quality of houses remain an issue that needs serious attention.
