Embedded System for Sensor Communication and Security

An, Feng January 2010 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Feng An and Maher Rizkalla, “Temperature/CO2 Sensor Embedded System Based Communications”, enrolled in ISCA FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SIGNAL PROCESSING AND APPLICATIONS, to be held in Orlando, September 15-17, 2010. / In this work, inter-integrated circuit mode (I2C) software was used to communicate between sensors and the embedded control system, utilizing PIC182585 MPLAB hardware. These sensors were built as part of a system on board that includes the sensors, microcontroller, and interface circuitry. The hardware includes the PIC18 processor, FPGA chip, and peripherals. A FPGA chip was used to interface the processor with the peripherals in order to operate at the same clock speed. This hardware design features high level of integration, reliability, high precision, and high speed communications. The software was first designed to operate each sensor separately, then the sensor system was integrated (to combine all sensors, microcontroller, and interfacing circuitries), and the software was updated to provide various actions if triggered by the sensors. Actions taken by the processor may include alarming signals that are based on threshold values received from the sensors, and inquiring temperature and CO2 readings. The system was designed for HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) applications and industrial settings. The overall system incorporating temperature and CO2 sensors was implemented and successfully tested. The response of the multi-sensor system was agreeable with the design parameters. The system may be expanded to include other sensors such as light senor, pressure sensor, etc. Monitoring the threshold values should add to the security features of the integrated communication system. This design features low power consumption (utilizing the sleeping mode of the processors), high speed communications, security, and flexibility to expansion.

Hanging Load Mock-Up For Experimental Setup To Test Flight System Stability

Gundstedt, Anthony January 2023 (has links)
Can we reduce disturbance, swing, and errors by delegating some of the tasks to a subsystem on the tool hanging from a drone to gain precision and dependability? This project covers developing and implementing a user-controlled prototype with an automatic control system and gripper for functionality and controlled movement in 5 DOF. AirForestry is developing a new way of working in the forestry business to provide a greener and healthier solution for the soil and the environment. The forestry industry emits approximately one million tons of CO2 per year from heavy diesel-fueled vehicles. With a renewable energy battery-powered drone of a diameter of 6.2 m and a hanging harvesting tool, they can significantly improve the environmental impact of forestry. The harvesting tool has an automatic control system and is user controlled to perform the thinning and cutting of trees. The main focus is to use IMU sensor data to produce accurate angle estimation to control the stability of a scaled prototype and to implement physical restrictions to make it able to be attached safely and tested on a drone but not limit the controlled mobility of the prototype with a system independent of the control system of the drone itself. The user can control the attitude and elevation and receive real-time sensor data wireless during operation. With the intended spacing of the attachment points on the drone, it can prevent unwanted swing from a push or displaced drop. It uses the accelerometer on the IMUsensor to calculate the angle of roll and pitch, although the accelerometer is sensitive to vibrations and rotations. The control system has a fast response and rise time, but it experiences noise and oscillations. Sensor fusion of the accelerometer and gyroscope in a complementary filter can be implemented to increase the accuracy of the angle estimations and decrease the noise, which will be reflected in the speed of the servos and thereby improve the stability and mobility of the system.

Measuring forces on a hydropower generator using strain gages

Weissbach, Joel January 2015 (has links)
Increased awareness concerning our energy consumption and its environmentaleffects, has led to a high demand for renewable energies. Hydropower providesaround 40 percent of the electric energy consumed in Sweden today. If energyefficiency and production time were to increase only by some percent in thehydropower plants, vast amounts of additional renewable energy could besupplied to the electric grid. The Hydropower group at Uppsala University usesa hydropower generator to localize and decrease some of the power losses andthe wearing in the generator. New equipment is being tested and evaluated onthe generator. By measuring static and dynamic forces in the generator broaderinsight can be reached during these tests. This thesis describes the development of a system measuring forces on ahydropower generator using strain gages. Each sensor node is equipped withfour strain gages and a signal conditioning circuit. The system measures strain inthe generator, converts it to a voltage signal, amplifies it, filters and transmits it.After calibration of the nodes, forces can be extracted indirectly. This thesisdescribes considerations made during design of the system as well as its differentparts and configurations.

Styrprogram till PIC-processorer för fjärrmanövrerad relämatris / Styrprogram till PIC-processorer för fjärrmanövrerad relämatris/Manueuvre program to PIC-processor for remote-controlled matrix of relays

Eskilsson, Eric January 2008 (has links)
Abstract The aims with this report are to document the upgrade and development of new software for the distance laboratory at Blekinge Tekniska Högskola. The work has been focused on implementing the identification number in a microcontroller, to read its data from a so called look-up table and to be able to control digital components through a serial bus (SPI). The look-up table is a list of data from which the software reads data for the different types of printed circuit boards in the hardware component of the distance laboratory is in focus. The results of the report are an implemented, upgraded version of the software and all three aims has been accomplished.

Hedvíček, Michal January 2017 (has links)
Thesis deals with the theoretical design of an automatic control system for the aquarium and following simulation software environment Proteus ISIS. Due to simulation program can verify the behavior of the microprocessor in the specified functions, the correctness of electrical connections and errors in source code. The second part is analysis of commercial systems, their characteristics and applications. Apart from available commercial systems, there is a basic overview of commonly used peripherals in the aquarium, including their comparison and evaluation. Furthermore, the implementation of a complex system is done and the procedures and methods needed to set up the system are described. This topic also deals with cooling and reliability tests.

Daněček, Vít January 2008 (has links)
Object my master’s thesis is the design a Medical device uninterruptible power supply with managment system utilizing I2C bus. Norm EN 61000-3-2 define electric parameters for medical device power supply. In case of power supply for medial equipment is expressive accent on increased electric strength. This power supply have usually primary and secondary power circuit. Primary power circuit form line accumulator, which supplies needed output to the load and recharge reserve battery. Secondary is formed battery-pack, which serve as back-up power supply at drop-out prime circle. They have a minimum weight, small proportions, large overall effectivity also charging battery-pack and monitoring battery-pack charging condition. Result whole those master’s thesis is design Medical device uninterruptible power supply with managment system utilizing I2C bus and realization board layout. Resulting characteristics designed supply unit are: Output voltages are 5V/ 3 A , 12V/ 1,5 A and -12V/ 0,1 A. Managment support information about: Line adapter/ battery pack switch, battery-pack charging condition and actuall tempera-ture battery-pack.
