Riedl, Michelle January 2018 (has links)
Abstract In this report I describe how I went about creating an informative, activating and entertaining crafts- booklet for 8- year-olds, and the theories and methods I´ve used in my working process. The booklet was commissioned by the curators of an historical exhibition on Swedish historical figure Axel Oxenstierna, which was the basis for the informative content of the booklet. I used information design- theories such as the principles of gestalt, and design principles in image and text – but also theories such as narrative, and children´s perception. Methods used include target group- analysis, place- analysis, and several content- analyses on similar artefacts. I developed a prototype and conducted interviews based on finished content. Finally I arrived at a conclusion in the form of a design proposal of a structure, an outline, and a few guidelines, which can be used in the design of a crafts- booklet about an historical exhibition. The report is concluded by a critical discussion of methods and a suggestion of more extensive interviews in the event of continued work on the project.

Larsson, Johanna January 2017 (has links)
This thesis is a collaboration with Framtidens läromedel, which is a research and product development project at Mälardalen University. Studies show that the mathematics skills of Swedish students are declining. The project aims to create a teaching material based on research that can help change the trend.   The project is developing several different parts. A book for students, a teacher's guide and a PowerPoint to use in the classroom. My task is to design the PowerPoint which aim to include interesting illustrations.   Research shows that students understand the content of a text better if they can look at a descriptive image. The “image” can be a movie, a picture in a book or a sketch drawn by the teacher on the board to help the students to understand.   The conclusion of this study is that a design should be attractive and that an image should be easy to read and to understand. This makes the recipients interested to the message being conveyed.   Studies show that in mathematics and mainly geometry, children relate geometric shapes to familiar objects. I have considered this in the creation of a descriptive image showing geometric shapes placed in an everyday context.

Archiving the Archive: A Tribute to the Machines that Held our Memories

Antell, Molly A 01 January 2019 (has links)
Archiving the Archive is an exploration of the changing ways we hold our memories through media. As digital technology becomes ever more present in daily life, many old analog media are becoming obsolete. Throughout history, these media technologies have done significant cultural work through their ability to hold and share the content that formed collective memory and shared identity. But the way we view content is changing. This project aims to serve as remembrance to this symbolic work and the physical uniqueness of these media through illustrative prints imbued with a movement and life otherwise overlooked. These memories are then fractured and abstracted onto postcards that visitors are encouraged to take with them to create a new sort of collective memory of these media objects.
