L'épidémiologie de la dépendance du sujet âgé. Histoire naturelle, tendances évolutives et déterminants / Epidemiology of dependency in the elderly. Natural history, trends and determinants

Edjolo, Arlette 18 December 2014 (has links)
The contingent of baby‐boomers combined with an expansion of morbidity increasinglyobserved in some layers of older and aging populations are a major challenge for society. The aim of this thesis was to study the natural history and determinants of dependency inaging. In the first part, we showed that longevity was a multifactorial phenomenon withsimilarities and discrepancies by gender. In the second part, the study of secular trendsshowed a 10‐year gain in life expectancy and a postponement of dependency in over 75‐year‐old demonstrating a compression of morbidity for men and high levels of education, but an expansion of morbidity for the subjects of low educational level. IRT models haveallowed us to more accurately describe the process of dependency. Our work confirmed thatthe ability to perform daily activities was hierarchically affected and the front door of theprocess was limitation for shopping, while the last step was for transfer limitation. Thetrajectories of functional evolution before death are more favorable to men and high levelsof education. Furthermore, the sequences are hierarchical specific to dementia, especiallyfor IADL. Demented people experienced sharper functional declines and greater levels ofdependency. Further analyzes will have to focus on exploring more widely different patternsof change in elderly population and identify the determinants underlying these profiles. Keywords:

Vyhledávání v obrázkových kolekcích na základě lokálních regionů a reprezentací z hlubokých neuronových sítí / Searching Image Collections Using Deep Representations of Local Regions

Bátoryová, Jana January 2020 (has links)
In a known-item search task (KIS), the goal is to find a previously seen image in a multimedia collection. In this thesis, we discuss two different approaches based on the visual description of the image. In the first one, the user creates a collage of images (using images from an external search engine), based on which we provide the most similar results from the dataset. Our results show that preprocessing the images in the dataset by splitting them into several parts is a better way to work with the spatial information contained in the user input. We compared the approach to a baseline, which does not utilize this spatial information and an approach that alters a layer in a deep neural network. We also present an alternative approach to the KIS task, search by faces. In this approach, we work with the faces extracted from the images. We investigate face representation for the ability to sort the faces based on their similarity. Then we present a structure that allows easy exploration of the set of faces. We provide a demo, implementing all presented techniques.

Ověření rytmických schopností u vysokoškolských studentů v oblasti vzdělávání tělesná výchova a sport / Verification of rhythmic abilities of university students in the field of education and physical education and sport

Kašparová, Alena January 2020 (has links)
The thesis is focused on creating a test battery for the sense of rhythm assessment for university students in the field of Physical Education and sport. Music-sports practice lacks such tests and so far it is forced to use only tests designed for the music field. The structure of the new tests corresponds to the characteristics of the sense of rhythm from the point of view of music psychology. The tests are divided into three sections, which are Perceptual Skills and Activities (items 1 to 18), Reproductive Skills and Activities (items 19 to 27) and Production Skills and Activities (item 28). The Classical test theory (factor analysis) and Item response theory (two-parametric model) were used for the statistical processing of results. The methods also included the calculation of the reliability and validity of the test. The expected refusal of the proposed hypothesis was confirmed in both the classical test theory and item response theory. The exception was model 4, whose fit indexes, especially TLI = 0.537, showed a lack of evidence for the refusal of the hypothesis rather than for a perfect fit of the model with the data. The aim of the research was to compile and test models whose conformity with the data would be the best. The most favorable conformity was for model No. 1 and No. 5. Model 1...

The Technical Qualities of the Elicited Imitation Subsection of The Assessment of College English, International (ACE-In)

Xiaorui Li (9025040) 25 June 2020 (has links)

The present study investigated technical qualities of the elicited imitation (EI) items used by the Assessment of College English – International (ACE-In), a locally developed English language proficiency test used in the undergraduate English Academic Purpose Program at Purdue University. EI is a controversial language assessment tool that has been utilized and examined for decades. The simplicity of the test format and the ease of rating place EI in an advantageous position to be widely implemented in language assessment. On the other hand, EI has received a series of critiques, primarily questioning its validity. To offer insights into the quality of the EI subsection of the ACE-In and to provide guidance for continued test development and revision, the present study examined the measurement qualities of the items by analyzing the pre- and post-test performance of 100 examines on EI. The analyses consist of an item analysis that reports item difficulty, item discrimination, and total score reliability; an examination of pre-post changes in performance that reports a matched pairs t-test and item instructional sensitivity; and an analysis of the correlation patterns between EI scores and TOEFL iBT total and subsection scores.

The results of the item analysis indicated that the current EI task was slightly easy for the intended population, but test items functioned satisfactorily in terms of separating examinees of higher proficiency from those of lower proficiency. The EI task was also found to have high internal consistency across forms. As for the pre-post changes, a significant pair-wise difference was found between the pre- and post-performance after a semester of instruction. However, the results also reported that over half of the items were relatively insensitive to instruction. The last stage of the analysis indicated that while EI scores had a significant positive correlation with TOEFL iBT total scores and speaking subsection scores, EI scores were negatively correlated with TOEFL iBT reading subsection scores.

Findings of the present study provided evidence in favor of the use of EI as a measure of L2 proficiency, especially as a viable alternative to free-response items. EI is also argued to provide additional information regarding examinees’ real-time language processing ability that standardized language tests are not intended to measure. Although the EI task used by the ACE-In is generally suitable for the targeted population and testing purposes, it can be further improved if test developers increase the number of difficult items and control the contents and the structures of sentence stimuli.

Examining the technical qualities of test items is fundamental but insufficient to build a validity argument for the test. The present EI test can benefit from test validation studies that exceed item analysis. Future research that focuses on improving item instructional sensitivity is also recommended.

Multidimensional Highway Construction Cost Indexes Using Dynamic Item Basket

Shrestha, Joseph, Jeong, H. David, Gransberg, Douglas D. 01 August 2017 (has links)
A highway construction cost index (HCCI) is an indicator of the purchasing power of a highway agency. Thus, it must reflect the actual construction market conditions. However, current methods used by most state departments of transportation are not robust enough to meet this primary goal due to (1) a significantly insufficient sample size of bid items used in HCCI calculation; and (2) inability to address the need to track highway construction market conditions in specific submarket segments such as, but not limited to, various project types, sizes, and locations. This study proposes an advanced methodology to overcome these apparent limitations using two new concepts: (1) dynamic item basket; and (2) multidimensional HCCIs. The dynamic item basket process identifies and utilizes an optimum amount of bid-item data to calculate HCCIs in order to minimize the potential error due to a small sample size, which leads to a better reflection of the current market conditions. Multidimensional HCCIs dissect the state highway construction market into distinctively smaller sectors of interest and thus, allow state Departments of Transportation to understand the market conditions with much higher granularity. A framework is developed to integrate these two concepts and a standalone prototype system, named the Dyna-Mu-HCCI System, is developed to automate the data-processing part of the framework. The historical bid data of the Montana Department of Transportation are used to evaluate the performance of the Dyna-Mu-HCCI System and measure the effects of the dynamic item basket (DIB) and multidimensional HCCIs. The results show an eightfold increase in terms of the number of bid items used in calculating HCCIs and at least a 20% increase in terms of the total cost of bid items used. In addition, the multidimensional HCCIs reveal different cost-change patterns from different highway sectors. For example, the bridge construction market historically shows a very different trend compared with the overall highway construction market. The new methodology is expected to aid state Departments of Transportation in making more-reliable decisions in preparing business plans and budgets with more accurate and detailed information about the construction market conditions. Further, the prototype Dyna-Mu-HCCI System is expected to significantly facilitate the HCCI calculation process and rapidly implement this new system.

Olsson, Anton, Siggesson, Oskar, Hedendahl, Mattias, Sandstedt, Max January 2022 (has links)
Title: Inventory management as prerequisite for an efficient warehousing managementstrategy during expansive growth Authors: Oskar Siggesson, Mattias Hedendahl, Anton Olsson & Max Sandstedt Examinator: Hana HulthénTutor: Petra Andersson Background: The company is in a period of strong growth and is suffering from growingpains. The company is moving to a new location with a larger storage space in 2024 butsomething has to be done before the move. Because of high storage levels there is a lack offree storage space and the warehouse is soon reaching its breaking point. Objective: The report investigates how a change in warehousing strategies can helpMicropower cope with the growth in production until 2024. A forecast is created for thefuture need for storage space on a selection of products in a portion of the warehouse. Methods: This study is a case study of Micropower Group. The study uses secondary data inthe form of quantitative data from the company's business system, but to some extent also theauthor’s own observations. The data is used to perform an ABC/XYZ-analysis on thecompany's incoming inventory that forms the basis for segmentation of the articles. The studyalso conducts a sensitivity analysis of the company's storage space needs. Conclusions: By segmenting articles based on the ABC/XYZ-analysis, appropriateinstruments can be presented for the company's articles. The analysis forms a framework forMicropower's inventory management strategy but also for companies in similar situations.Based on the segmentation, information about the article's characteristics and appropriateinstruments. The study's sensitivity analysis of the forecast for storage space requirementsgives the company an indication of what increase in inventory turnover rate is required tomanage production growth. The study finds that in order to manage production growth therewill need to be an equally large increase in inventory turnover rate. Key words: ABC/XYZ-analysis, item management, inventory management strategy, differentiation, classification, forecast, sensitivity analysis, storage space

Development of an Outcome Measure for Use in Psychology Training Clinics

Davis, Elizabeth C. 05 1900 (has links)
The ability to monitor client change in psychotherapy over time is vital to quality assurance in service delivery as well as the continuing improvement of psychotherapy research. Unfortunately, there is not currently a comprehensive, affordable, and easily utilized outcome measure for psychotherapy specifically normed and standardized for use in psychology training clinics. The current study took the first steps in creating such an outcome measure. Following development of an item bank, factor analysis and item-response theory analyses were applied to data gathered from a stratified sample of university (n = 101) and community (n = 261) participants. The factor structure did not support a phase model conceptualization, but did reveal a structure consistent with the theoretical framework of the research domain criteria (RDoC). Suggestions for next steps in the measure development process are provided and implications discussed.
