abstract: This study aimed to understand, compare and describe details about U.S children and Taiwanese children's visual image reading. The researcher interviewed thirty children ages 8 to 10 in the state of Arizona and Taiwan. The researcher employed quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the data. The analysis using these two methods provided different ways of comprehending the data. The results showed that the two groups of children's image reading did not have statistically significant differences in most categories; but there were demonstrable trends and viewpoints employed when both groups of children explained the details of the images. First, the children expressed what they saw in the images in six ways. The U.S. children were more able to describe contexts with self-experiences/opinions and/or associations than the Taiwanese children. Second, when interpreting the meanings, the Taiwanese children understood the concepts of the images better than the U.S. group. The U.S. children were more critical and expressed self-opinions/associations more. Third, when asked preferences, the U.S. children paid more attention to identify their favorites and express feeling the images brought to them. The Taiwanese children cared more about style and form. Fourth, when judging the images, the U.S. children emphasized the artist's devotion to creating while Taiwanese children considered the form, composition, colors, structure, design, and composition. The results also indicated that the children decided their preferences and their judgments of artworks might be based on multiple viewpoints instead of a single one, especially for the Taiwanese children. Some cultural differences between the two groups of children and their image readings were presented, such as, cultural differences made children have different learned symbolism. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Art 2013

Esta pesquisa aborda aspectos sobre programas educativos implementados pela Secretaria Estadual de Educação para promover a visita de alunos a instituições culturais. Na primeira parte faremos uma análise de um período da história do ensino de arte que consideramos determinante na difusão de conhecimentos que focaram a leitura de imagens e que, consequentemente, demandou a visitação de alunos a mostras e exposições. Na segunda parte analisaremos os mais significativos programas implantados pela Secretaria Estadual de Educação nos últimos anos, assim como materiais pedagógicos enviados às escolas, produzidos por instituições culturais em diferentes períodos. Na terceira parte analisaremos registros sobre a visita de alunos realizada em três instituições culturais. Na quarta e última parte faremos uma análise final localizando as fragilidades e os avanços que fundamentaram nossas considerações propositivas. / This research covers aspects related to educational programs implemented by the State Secretary of Education to promote student visits to cultural institutions. In the first part we will analyze a period in the history of art education that we consider essential in the promotion of knowledge which focused on image reading and, therefore, required student visits to exhibits and expositions. In the second part we will analyze the most significant programs implemented by the State Secretary of Education in the past few years, just like pedagogical materials sent to schools produced by cultural institutions in different periods. In the third part we will analyze records of student visits to three cultural institutions. In the fourth and last part we will make a final analysis focusing on the fragilities and advances that grounded our propositional considerations.

Nesta investigação damos continuidade aos estudos sobre textos sincréticos verbovisuais iniciados no mestrado, tendo como objeto empírico de estudo os fanzines, também chamados zines, publicações alternativas de pequena circulação, que se situam nas bordas, nas interfaces entre arte, design, literatura e cultura visual. Na escolha do objeto empírico, bem como na delimitação do corpus de análise, levamos em consideração algumas particularidades observadas na obra de Roland Barthes (1984, 1990, 2004). Corroboraram com essa escolha, o crescente interesse pelos fanzines observado nas áreas de Educação, Comunicação e Design, o surgimento e expansão dos zine fests e a escassez de publicações e estudos acadêmicos sobre o assunto no Brasil. Como objetivo geral, estudamos o sentido ou os efeitos de sentido advindos das relações entre as linguagens envolvidas nos zines. Para tanto, contamos com o aporte teórico e metodológico da semiótica discursiva. Dentre seus autores, citamos as contribuições de Barros (2003), Fiorin (2004, 2009), Teixeira (2004, 2009) e Greimas e Courtés (1991, 2008). Para pensar especificamente as relações entre as linguagens no plano de expressão, buscamos aproximações com Louis Hjelmslev (1978, 2006) e José Roberto do Carmo Jr. (2009). A partir das análises de Pequeno compêndio dos fantasmas interiores, de Ale Kalko; Acordo mal e Em branco, de Hannah Uesugi constatamos entre seus componentes relações de interdependência que, por sua vez, foram examinadas quanto a três dimensões: aproximação/afastamento; coerência/incoerência e subjetividade/objetividade. Consideramos que tais dimensões também estejam presentes nas relações entre linguagens acionadas em outros textos sincréticos verbovisuais. Com isso, pretendemos colaborar tanto para o ensino da arte como para pesquisas que tenham como objeto empírico de estudo manifestações sincréticas verbovisuais. Além de apresentarmos o zine como potente material para experimentação expressiva e conceitual também proporcionamos subsídios teóricos e metodológicos para o aprofundamento da leitura de imagens, trazendo a semiótica discursiva para o contato de professores e pesquisadores. Por outro lado, com o estudo das relações entre linguagens pensadas como dimensões esperamos contribuir para uma sistematização da leitura do plano de expressão de textos sincréticos, ainda em construção na semiótica discursiva. / In the present investigation we continued our studies on verb-visual syncretic texts started in the Master’s course, having as empirical object of study the fanzines, also called zines, alternative publications of small circulation, which are found on the margins, on the interfaces between art, design, literature and visual culture. When choosing the empirical object as well as the limits of corpus of analysis, we took into consideration some features observed in the work of Roland Barthes (1984, 1990, 2004). The growing interest for fanzines, observed in the fields of Education, Communication and Design, the emergence and expansion of zine fests and the lack of publications and academic studies on the topic in Brazil have supported such choice. As a general objective, we studied the sense or the effects of sense resulting from the relations between the languages involved in the zines. To do so, we made use of the theoretical and methodological input of discursive semiotics. Amongst its authors we mention the contributions by Barros (2003), Fiorin (2004, 2009), Teixeira (2004, 2009) and Greimas and Courtés (1991, 2008). In order to think specifically about the relations between the languages in the expression plan, we looked for reports with Louis Hjelmslev (1978, 2006) and José Roberto do Carmo Jr. (2009). Investiga a construção imagético/discursiva infantil, a partir de propostas envolvendo diálogos entre as crianças e as produções artístico-culturais da região. A pesquisa é embasada no estudo do conceito de mediação, imaginário e apropriação interativa no cotidiano, em VIGOTSKI, BENJAMIN, KRAMER, VASCONCELLOS e SARMENTO. Propõe reflexões sobre o entendimento de criança como sujeito protagonista em seu contexto vivido. Para as análises de leituras de imagem e arte, encontra aporte teórico em COLA, CIAVATTA e SCHÜTZ-FOERSTE. A metodologia de estudo de caso participativo/colaborativo dos sujeitos envolvidos, com abordagem qualitativa, fundamentou a pesquisa. O registro sistemático, a partir do olhar sensível, com filmagens, fotografias e diário de campo, serviu de base para a triangulação com leituras e análise os dados. As observações e intervenções no espaço escolar em tempos fundamentais e articulados, a saber: coleta, sistematização, retorno e análise, possibilitaram avanço metodológico na pesquisa. A intervenção fomentou exercícios verbo-visuais e experiências capazes de desencadear processos reflexivos e novos dados. O retorno dos dados favoreceu o diálogo e (re)significou novos dados produzidos. Esse processo objetivou compreender como o envolvimento/diálogo das crianças com as produções artístico-culturais do município de Serra contribui para (re)significar e ampliar repertórios imagéticos/discursivos na infância / This report investigates the educational teaching of a primary group of children in elementary school, in Jorge Amado municipal school, in Serra/ES. It investigates the construction of imagery/discursive childhood, from proposals involving dialogues among children and the regional artistic-cultural production. The research is based on the study of the concept of mediation, imaginary and interactive apropriation on the routine, in Vigotski, Benjamin, Kramer, Vasconcellos and Sarmento. It also proposes reflections about understanding the child as a protagonist subject in their living contexts. Regarding the reading of images and art analysis, it finds theoretical contribution in Cola, Ciavatta and Schütz-Foerste. The study methodology of participatory case/collaborative of involved subjects, with qualitative approach, is the base for this research. The sistematic register, from a sensitive view, with footages, photography, and daily field work formed the basis for the triangulation, with reading and data analysis. The observations and interventions in the school space research in articulated key moments, which are: gathering, systematization, analysis and feedback, allowed methodological advances in the research. The intervention encouraged the visual-verb exercises and experiences capable of unchaining the reflexive process and new data. The data feedback favored the dialog and reframed new produced data. This process objectified how to understand the involvement/children dialog with the artistic-cultural production in the city of Serra to contribute to reframe and amplify imagery repertories/discursive in childhood

A paisagem possibilita um olhar para a cidade que integra diversos aspectos da relação sociedadenatureza, e, ao expressar diferentes momentos da ação de uma cultura sobre o espaço, é também uma acumulação de tempos. O presente trabalho pretende compreender as dinâmicas de transformação da paisagem contemporânea, buscando desvelar suas múltiplas camadas temporais a partir de uma perspectiva histórica. Para acessar os vestígios do passado e realizar um percurso no tempo, adota-se a imagem fotográfica como fonte para a investigação. Nesse encontro da paisagem e da fotografia, enquanto fenômenos visíveis que se oferecem a leituras espaço-temporais, sob a inspiração benjaminiana do princípio da montagem, articulam-se os fundamentos teórico-metodológicos que se desdobram na construção e na aplicação de um método para a interpretação da paisagem segundo suas características constituintes da forma, função e estrutura. Como estudo de caso, utiliza-se fotografias de “Porto Alegre vista do Guaíba” em diferentes períodos, considerados emblemáticos em relação às transformações urbanas. Ao acessar as fotografias enquanto vestígios deixados como uma experiência sensível do mundo, a paisagem se revela, permitindo a apreensão de seus significados. / Landscape provides a look at the city integrating various aspects of the society-nature relationship. As it expresses different connections of cultural action over space, it is also an overlapping of time. This study aims to understand the transformation dynamics of the contemporary landscape, seeking to uncover its many layers of time from a historical perspective. In order to access the vestiges of the past and make a journey in time, the photographic image is the source for research. When landscape and photography meet and visible space-time readings phenomena take place inspired by Benjamin’s principle of montage, theoretical and methodological articulation unfolds in the construction and application of a method for interpretation of the landscape according to its form, function and structure. As a case study, photographs of “Porto Alegre view from Guaíba” at various times are considered emblematic in relation to urban transformation. By accessing the photographs as traces left and as a sensory experience of the world, the landscape reveals itself, allowing seizure of meanings.
