[pt] ITINERÂNCIAS ZINE-FEMINISTAS: UM MERGULHAR EM DATILOGRAFIAS DE FÚRIA E SAUDADE / [en] ZINE-FEMINIST IS ON THE ROAD: A PLUNGE ON FURY AND LONGING

CAMILA OLIVIA DE MELO 11 December 2019 (has links)
[en] In 2015, I started an ethnographic research with the objective of mapping and attending feminist collectives that were politically active through self-publications (zines). Between the years 2015-2018 we have archived 101 zines from the Center- South regions of Brazil; we have checked envelopes in the exchange of letters, and we also have circulated through punk-feminist events and particularly open skies zine fairs. Rio de Janeiro city s vertigo, our research locus, affected us as the country underwent a series of toppling in the macro-structures of power. In this scenario, the zinesters formed alliances regarding gestures of resistances to the daily violence of the metropolis and elaborated political relations called velcro-alliance (Gloria Anzaldúa) being the zines their main medium and practice of the self (Michel Foucault). In our research field, we could reflect on contemporary zine-feminist writing practices; the gestures of retaliation to the limit violations (inside and outside the counter-cultural spaces); and with Judith Butler we were able to see the uprisings as the power of these feminist collectives. In addition, we have immersed in the Dadaist Hannah Höch s work so we could analyze the zines of our scope. The goal of this thesis was to problematize the notions of community, friendship and consecrated wisdom; besides the particular experiences that have occurred in the research within what we call the zine-feminist field. We have had the opportunity to observe the dynamics, political affectations and relationships among the participants of this network; we have approached ourselves to the economy of trade and, using the speeches of non-heterosexual zinesters, we have told a story with impulses of fury and longing (in Brazilian Portuguese, the feeling of missing someone).

Hellzén Cramér, Hanna January 2005 (has links)

Lerm, Ruth Rejane Perleberg January 2017 (has links)
In the present investigation we continued our studies on verb-visual syncretic texts started in the Master’s course, having as empirical object of study the fanzines, also called zines, alternative publications of small circulation, which are found on the margins, on the interfaces between art, design, literature and visual culture. When choosing the empirical object as well as the limits of corpus of analysis, we took into consideration some features observed in the work of Roland Barthes (1984, 1990, 2004). The growing interest for fanzines, observed in the fields of Education, Communication and Design, the emergence and expansion of zine fests and the lack of publications and academic studies on the topic in Brazil have supported such choice. As a general objective, we studied the sense or the effects of sense resulting from the relations between the languages involved in the zines. To do so, we made use of the theoretical and methodological input of discursive semiotics. Amongst its authors we mention the contributions by Barros (2003), Fiorin (2004, 2009), Teixeira (2004, 2009) and Greimas and Courtés (1991, 2008). In order to think specifically about the relations between the languages in the expression plan, we looked for reports with Louis Hjelmslev (1978, 2006) and José Roberto do Carmo Jr. (2009). Based on analysis of the Pequeno compêndio dos fantasmas interiores, by Ale Kalko; Acordo mal and Em branco, by Hannah Uesugi we noticed, amongst their components, relations of interdependency which, in turn, were examined concerning three dimensions: approximation/distance; coherence/incoherence and subjectivity/objectivity. We consider that such dimensions are also present in the relations between languages used in other verb-visual syncretic texts. Thus, we intend to collaborate both for the teaching of art as well as for researches which have as their empirical object of study, verb-visual syncretic manifestations. Besides presenting the zine as a powerful material for expressive and conceptual experimentation we also provide theoretical and methodological subsidies for the development of image reading, making the discursive semiotics accessible for teachers, professors and researchers. On the other hand, with the study of the relations between the languages seen as dimensions we expect to contribute for a systematization of the reading of the expression plan of syncretic texts, still under construction in the discursive semiotics.

Why Weight? Zines as Effective Health Communication Tools Against Fat Phobia

Gonzalez, Evelyn 01 January 2018 (has links)
The current models for health care hold at their core a pathologization of fat bodies informed by discriminatory methods and ideologies leading to an explicit lack of quality medical care for those who fail to meet normative standards of health and size. This project is interested in examining alternative public health models that provide interventions into those systems. Specifically, this work will seek to understand how the grassroots movement, Health at Every Size (HAES), serves to interrupt current limited understandings of health and weight. HAES individualized, weight-neutral approach to health and wellness exists in seeming opposition to contemporary ideas around healthcare practices. In studying this alternative model, conventional ideas of health care towards fat patients will be understood to be informed primarily by discriminatory structural and ideological practices. In addition, by highlighting the healthcare industries’ investment in the medical industrial complex, this project aims to deconstruct and critique notions of health while increasing access to care that is informed by the realities of bodily difference. In addition, this thesis will argue for zines as important health information dissemination tools by first mapping and complicating its history, expanding on zines as an artistic and politicized medium, and finally emphasizing its capacity to communicate through alternative knowledges and distribution networks.

Hci + Ohja = sant! : En studie om feministiska seriefanzines

Svensson, Frida January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to gain knowledge about thefeminist comic zine, and its meaning for its readers, writers and thelibrary. In order to explore this subject I use feminist theory, and aconcept from a theory which I call Literature as resistance. The method used in this study is qualitative interviews andqualitative content analysis. I have interviewed six individuals, identified as feminists, who read and/or illustrate feminist comiczines. The interview material were transcribed and analyzed throughthemes identified in the material. Four major themes were found;Comics and gender, Feminist role models, Feminist practice and Artistic expression. My results show that the informants in this study find the comic zinemedium to be an appropriate way of sharing experiences andspreading feminist ideas. The feminist comic zine is described as”the ultimate way of laughing together with your feminist sisters”,and it is perceived to make the world bigger and freer. To illustratefeminist comic zines is seen as a possible way to act, and influenceand change norms and structures. The feminist comic zine enablesthe informants to combine reading experiences with feministcommitment, creation and a desire to communicate something withtheir readers.
