Cardiovascular Response to a Behavioral Restraint Challenge: Urge Magnitude Influence in Men and Women

Mlynski, Christopher 05 1900 (has links)
Agtarap, Wright, Mlynski, Hammad, and Blackledge took an initial step in providing support for the predictive validity of a new conceptual analysis concerned with behavioral restraint, defined as active resistance against a behavioral impulse or urge. The current study was designed to partially replicate and extend findings from their study, employing a common film protocol and a procedure for inducing low- and high levels of fatigue. Analyses on key data indicated that the fatigue manipulation was ineffective. On the other hand, they supported the suggestion that behavioral restraint should be proportional to the strength of an urge being resisted so long as success is perceived as possible and worthwhile. Analyses also provided evidence of gender differences for this behavioral restraint task. Women showed relatively enhanced CV responses to my manipulation of urge magnitude, performed less well, rated the behavioral restraint challenge as harder, and rated success on the more difficult behavioral restraint task as more important. A broad indication is that men and women can differ in the strength of impulses they experience in response to stimulus presentations as well as in the importance they place on resisting the impulses.

Second hand + Online + Gen Z = TRUE : A quantitative study on the motivations behind second-hand shopping for clothes online

Häggmark, Amanda, Olofsson, Fanny January 2023 (has links)
The environmental issues in the world are critical and sustainability becomes more important. There is a certain lack in the textile industry, where the production of clothes is responsible for water pollution, landfill waste and greenhouse gas emission. A more sustainable way of consumption is required, and one way is to shop for pre-owned and pre-used clothes. The demand for second-hand goods rapidly increases and the market is expected to continue to grow the next coming years. Internet has opened up for a new marketplace and the number of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) platforms increases and become more and more popular to buy and sell second-hand through. Generation Z are the young consumers that were born with technology, and this has led to a change in young people’s behavior, and attitudes and lifestyle which need to be perceived differently from previous generations. However, there is still a lack of research regarding Gen Z as consumers and no previous research has focused on their behavior when it comes to Online Second-hand Shopping Clothes (OSSC) using digital P2P platforms. Hence, this led us to our research question “What are the motives for Generation Z to shop second-hand clothes on digital P2P platforms?”. The aim is to give important insights to managers who are developing marketing strategies in the environment of OSSC, through exploring motivations and dimensions that could impact the behavior of this amongst Gen Z. We also want to give insights of OSSC through not only incorporating theories on shopping motivations, but also include Impulsive Buying Tendency and Perceived Risk. Based on theories of motivations towards Second-Hand shopping such as economical, ideological, fashionability, convenience, ethical and theories of Impulse Buying Tendency and Perceived Risk we constructed a conceptual framework with several hypotheses. To answer our research question and achieve our research purpose we conducted a deductive quantitative study where we through a web survey targeted people born in Gen Z who had experience of OSSC. The findings revealed that as a motive in our baseline regression analysis, ideological and convenience was significant. In our analysis on bivariate correlation, convenience and ethical motives was significant. In the multiple regression with multiple-items measures, convenience was the only significant motivation. Perceived Risk was only significant in our alternative model where it would affect the consumers perception of monetary spending on OSSC. We found no support that fashionability and impulse buying traits are motives for OSSC. Economical motives were not found to be significant as a motivation, but it can be considered a hygiene factor for OSSC. In conclusion, the findings reveal that all motives are important in different aspects, but convenience and ethical motives are strongly supported to be important drivers towards OSSC amongst Gen Z.

On the Calculation of Time-Domain Impulse-Response of Systems from Band-Limited Scattering-Parameters using Wavelet Transform

Rahmani, Maryam 06 May 2017 (has links)
In the aspect of electric-ship grounding, the time-domain behavior of the ship hull is needed. The grounding scheme impacts the nature of voltage transients during switching events and faults, identifiability and locatability of ground faults, fault current levels, and power quality. Due to the large size of ships compared with the wavelengths of the desired signals, time-domain measurement or simulation is a time-consuming process. Therefore, it is preferred that the behavior be studied in the frequency-domain. In the frequency-domain one can break down the whole ship hull into small blocks and find the frequency behavior of each block (scattering parameters) in a short time and then connect these blocks and find the whole ship hull scattering parameters. Then these scattering pa- rameters should be transferred to the time-domain. The problem with this process is that the measured frequency-domain data (or the simulated data) is band-limited so, while calculating time-domain solutions, due to missing DC and low frequency content the time-domain response encounters causality, passivity and time-delay problems. Despite availability of several software and simulation packets that convert frequency-domain information to time-domain, all are known to suffer from the above mentioned problems. This dissertation provides a solution for computing the Time-Domain Impulse-Response for a system by using its measured or simulated scattering parameters. In this regard, a novel wavelet computational approach is introduced.

Comparison of Structure, Properties and Wear Performance of Coatings Applied by HiPIMS and CAE PVD Deposition Methods During the Machining of Difficult-to-Machine Alloys

Reolon, Luca January 2020 (has links)
High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (HiPIMS) comes as a new and promising PVD method for the development of high-performance coatings for cutting applications. This technique utilizes high energy and ionization which can produce a denser and stronger ceramic in comparison to traditional deposition techniques. Important coating characteristics that arise from this method such as enhanced hardness, adhesion, and less defects, can be applied when machining hard-to-cut materials. In this study, investigation of tool life and wear mechanisms, mechanical and physical properties of AlTiN coatings deposited on carbide tools by HiPIMS and Cathodic Arc Evaporation (CAE) were analyzed when machining Inconel 718 and Stainless Steel 304. Experimental turning tests were performed to evaluate tool life, and the wear mechanisms were analyzed by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Nanohardness, scratch test, fracture toughness and other methods were carried out to evaluate the coating properties. Impedance experiments were performed to determine the coating porosity and resistance to corrosion. The results showed that HiPIMS coating presented higher hardness, toughness to fracture and adhesion to the substrate in comparison to CAE coatings. The HiPIMS coated tool substantially improved tool life when machining Inconel. The dominant wear mechanism found was abrasion, which is induced by the presence of hard carbides. The main wear patterns observed were flank, notch, and crater wear. The tool performance of HiPIMS was found to have enhanced mechanical properties, lower porosity, and form a larger amount of tribo-oxides when machining, in comparison to CAE. / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

Impulse-response eller förstärkare : Impulse-response eller förstärkare, Vad är skillnaden?

Jönsson, Fredrik January 2021 (has links)
This essay aims to ascertain whether an impulse response is able to accurately simulatethe sound of an amplifier with a clean tone. This is done with a visual analysis of thewaveforms from both a re-amped audio signal and one with a convolution reverb/loaderwith an impulse measurement of the amplifier. And an audio evaluation with musicallyknowledgeable individuals. The results show small visual differences on the waveformsand no participant in the audio evaluation test was able to tell which was an impulseresponse. Leading to the conclusion that an impulse response could simulate theamplifier with great accuracy.
