AN EXPLORATORY STUDY INTO THE ADOPTON OF INTERNET BANKING IN MAINLAND CHINA

Chen, Lisa 01 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Given that the Chinese economy has experienced rapid growth over the last decade, developing Internet banking and transforming traditional lines of products into web sites beyond "brick and mortar" local branches will be the main drivers for both Chinese banks and foreign banks to tap into the available of Chinese savings. The primary objective of this study is to integrate trust and uncertainty theoretically into the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior in investigating determinants that affect Internet banking adoption in a developing country. Thus, this research attempts to evaluate empirically adoption models for Internet banking and employs an integrated model to investigate the factors of Internet banking adoption in Mainland China. Sample date will be collected from Chinese college students in Mainland China. The structural equation modeling technique will be employed to test the proposed hypotheses. This study collected data from two public universities in Shandong Province, China. The results of statistical analysis suggested that beliefs of social norms, behavioral control, and trust have significant influences on an individual's intention to adopt Internet banking service. Within this sample of Chinese students, only perceived image on its attitude belief was not significant. The new knowledge generated in this research study will increase our understanding in financial, accounting, management of information system, business administration, and decision making related to the adoption of Internet banking in Mainland China.

Analyzing a Knowledge Management System and its Issues Regarding the Motivation to Participate Through Workflow Maps

Yu, Caroline January 2023 (has links)
Knowledge is the heart of how organizations function. It holds the records of previous experiences, failures, and successes. With this knowledge, organizations can predict decisions that will lead to a higher success rate for their business. To keep this knowledge protected and easy to reach, knowledge management systems were created to manage it. However, a badly managed one could detriment the efficiency of such a system. This thesis is collaborating with Avalanche Studios Groups and it presents an approach on how to map the system in order to discover flaws. This approach uses heuristic evaluation to gather information on how knowledge flows in and out of the system. The quantitative result shows the state of the knowledge management system based on three criterias: accessibility, relevance and information quality. The qualitative result shows two categorizations on the platform and the users, and two workflow maps of knowledge sharing and knowledge searching. The workflow maps combined with the categorizations show where and when a problem arise and who it concerns. With the insight of the state of the KMS, thisanalysis can narrow down the options for the next step on how to improve the system.

It's All Downhill From Here: A Forecast of Subsidence Rates in the Lower Mississippi River Industrial Corridor

Harris, Joseph B., Joyner, T. Andrew, Rohli, Robert V., Friedland, Carol J., Tollefson, William C. 01 January 2020 (has links)
Southeast Louisiana is susceptible to the impact of subsidence due to natural and anthropogenic processes including sediment compaction and loading, fluid withdrawal, and faulting. Subsidence rates in Southeast Louisiana are higher than anywhere else in the United States, and the impact of subsidence rates on industrial complexes has not been studied. Spatial interpolation methods were analyzed to determine the best fit for subsidence rates and to create a predictive surface for the lower Mississippi River Industrial corridor (LMRIC). Empirical Bayesian kriging, ordinary kriging, universal kriging, and inverse distance weighted interpolation methods were applied to the 2004 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published Technical Report #50 dataset and cross-validation methods were utilized to determine the accuracy of each method. The mean error and root mean square error were calculated for each interpolation method, then used to detect bias and compare the predicted value with the actual observation value. Cross-validation estimates are comparable for each method statistically and visually; however, the results indicate the empirical Bayesian kriging interpolation method is the most accurate of the methods using the lowest mean error and root mean square error scores. Digital elevation models for the years 2025, 2050, and 2075 were developed based on the predictive surface of subsidence rates using the results from the empirical Bayesian kriging interpolation method. Results indicate that by 2025, 31.4% of landmass in the LMRIC will be below 0 m NAVD88, with 40.4% below 0 m NAVD88 by 2050, and 51.8% by 2075. Subsidence rates in the LMRIC range from approximately 16 mm to less than one mm per year. Nine of the 122 industrial complexes located in the LMRIC are estimated to be below 0 m NAVD88 by the year 2075. Limited economic impacts can be inferred based on the number of facilities impacted; however, service disruptions due to subsidence impacting infrastructure surrounding these industrial complexes would have catastrophic economic impacts on a regional, state, and national level.

OOPS! THEY BUILD IT AGAIN : A suitability analysis for future wind farm location in Sweden

Christofel, Aditya Billy January 2019 (has links)
The world energy needs increasing in a significant number and currently it is mainly sourced from the finite fossil fuel. Other than that, fossil fuel is the main source of CO2 emissions that leads to the increasing rate of global warming that will ultimately change the earth's climate. Thus, researcher began to look for alternative energy that is renewable and has the least impact to the world's climate; one example is wind energy. Sweden has experienced a significant increase in wind energy generation, where the wind production constantly grows in the double-digit rates since 2010. However, developing a wind energy requires a significant research and feasibility study in order to provide an economically sustainable operation. Wind farm needs to be located in areas with a good wind potential, however there are several technical and economic limitation on where the wind farm should be located. On top of that, social rejection might also hinder the development of wind energy. Audio-visual obstruction and disturbance to the natural state of the environment are the main arguments that were used to challenge the development of wind farm. Therefore, a multi-disciplinary study needs to be conducted in order to find the perfect balance; which is exactly what this study is all about. The result of this study shows that despite the threat of climate change, wind farm in Sweden could thrive due to the increasing wind speed across the country. It was also discovered that around 30% of the country is suitable, from the social, technical, and economic point of view, as a new location for wind farms. This study also reveals that most of the canceled / rejected wind farms were probably caused by the social rejection due to their proximity to population center or conservation areas. This study also discussed the concept of place attachment and identity that leads to the NIMBY attitude and reflects the concept of the social acceptance issue that happened in Sweden and on how to localize the wind farm concept to the local residence.
