Um dos principais desafios para as universidades que estão se lançando na EAD é buscar uma linguagem pedagógica apropriada à aprendizagem mediada pelas diversas mídias disponíveis. A ação da tutoria é um elemento essencial, sendo uma das determinantes do sucesso do curso. Neste novo modelo de educação os tutores desempenham mais o papel de facilitadores do que de especialistas, pois os cursos são menos estruturados e mais personalizados, cabendo aos próprios alunos cuidar de sua instrução. O controle sobre o andamento do curso, assim como o acompanhamento permanente do trabalho de professores, dos tutores, dos estagiários de atendimento e da secretaria, são igualmente cruciais, pois a interação com o aluno pode se dar de inúmeras formas e todas elas são essenciais ao sucesso da aprendizagem. A estruturação de uma equipe especializada, composta de pessoas que entendam de tecnologia e de pedagogia e, que trabalhem de forma coesa, podem garantir uma melhor performance da aprendizagem do aluno. O principal objetivo desta tese é criar um modelo conceitual de análise para identificar como as tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) estão sendo utilizadas nos processos educacionais nos cursos a distância nas Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) no Brasil. Com base nos dados obtidos através de pesquisa, efetuar uma análise comparativa a fim de identificar grupos que possuam características similares tanto relacionados aos projetos pedagógicos de seus cursos, quanto aos materiais utilizados, a estruturação dos cursos, formas de interação aluno/professor, suporte ao aluno, público-alvo, tecnologias utilizadas e sistemas de avaliação adotados. / The analysis of the different methodologies of education adopted by the leading universities in their distance education courses may instigate the interest of the professors involved with distance education, in the process of choosing the methodology that better assists the students who cannot or prefer not coming to campus. For the universities that are introducing courses in the distance education one of the main challenges is to seek for the appropriate pedagogical language of learning carried on by multiple media available. The tutorship action is essential, being conclusive to the courses success. In this new model of education, the tutors act as a facilitator of the course rather than an specialized professor, because these courses are structurally less organized but focused on personalization, considering that the students are the responsible ones for taking care of its education. The permanent control and attendance held by the general coordination of the course on its professors, tutors, trainees and secretary office are likely crucial, since the integration with each student may take place in several ways, all of them being essential for the learning success. The organization of a specialized group of persons engaged in the joint work, consisting of people specialized in technology and pedagogy that can perform their work harmoniously, may guarantee the better learning performance by the students as well. The main goal of this thesis is to create a conceptual model of analysis to identify how the information technologies and communication is being used in the distance education courses offered by high education institutions in Brazil (hereinafter called “IES”). With the data gotten through research the objective is to present a comparative analysis capable to identify the interaction ways and support given to alike students among the universities, in other words, groups that have similar characteristics with respect to the pedagogical projects of its courses, its materials, courses structure, ways of interaction between professor and student, students attendance, public, adopted technologies and valuation systems as well.

Influence of Facebooking and social media use on academic performance among Nigerian undergraduate social sciences students

Text in English / Anyone using the Internet is likely to use Facebook and anyone using Facebook is likely to use it just about every day. The prevalent uses of the Internet and related technologies is a sign-showing that they have become a part of human life. On any student’s academic side of life, the use of social media (taking Facebook as a case) has become commonplace, but their influences over the academic engagement and performance of students requires deeper understanding. In Africa, the need for studies on the interplay between social media and education is growing. This study focuses on the influence of Facebook on the academic performance of undergraduate social sciences students using three federal Universities in Nigeria, West Africa as research sites. The study shows that Facebook use did not significantly influence the academic performance of the surveyed students at these universities and that its use can, however, be harnessed for augmenting student academic performance and for advancing education in general. / Sociology / M.A. (Sociology)

Knowledge management and its effectiveness for organisational transformation through knowledge sharing and transfer

Knowledge Management aims to improve organisational performance and it marks the beginning of organisational transformation. The two types of knowledge managed are respectively categorised “tacit” and “explicit.” This research investigated the effectiveness of Knowledge Management for organisational transformation in Namibia. It was necessitated by the lack of knowledge sharing among employees and also lack of appropriate tools for effective Knowledge Management. Moreover, some organisations engage in Knowledge Management practices without a full understanding of the processes involved. This was determined by a through literature review which indicated that there were very few studies conducted on Knowledge Management in Namibia as shown on Table 1.1 on page 6. The study therefore provided a nuanced understanding of Knowledge Management. The study additionally established that the use of appropriate tools and technologies to better manage the knowledge ultimately improves organisational performance. The research objectives sought to explore the initiatives deployed to enable knowledge sharing, identify barriers to effective Knowledge Management, analyse the role of social media for knowledge sharing and also measure the effectiveness of the knowledge transfer activities. A mixed method research methodology was used to conduct this investigation. Participants were selected through purposive sampling. Out of 130 questionnaires distributed, 112 were fully completed and returned. This represented an 86.1% response rate. The results of the study revealed that organisational transformation is dependent on effective Knowledge Management. In addition to that, the study found that there is a correlation of 0.6 between Information Technology and Knowledge Management. The study further revealed that initiatives to enable knowledge sharing start with executive support and the employees should be motivated to share knowledge. More so, it was also found that lack of funds for Knowledge Management projects is the greatest barrier in organisations. Effective Knowledge Management is facilitated by social media. Finally, it was found that the most effective knowledge transfer activity is a collaborative virtual workspace followed by Communities of Practice. / School of Computing / M.Sc. (Computing)

The integration of computer technology in the Namibian education system

The integration of computer technology in education has been a worldwide issue that has been supported and equally criticized by many. However, the practicability of computer technology in education cannot be overlooked, and this reality led to this study. This qualitative study aimed to explore the extents to which computer technology has been integrated in teaching and learning in Namibian schools, and three central schools in the town of Katima Mulilo (Zambezi Region) were investigated in this regard. The study explored possible benefits of computer technology in education, and sought to understand the way learners perceive computer technology. The study findings showed that teachers were unable to use computers to teach due to lack of resources and skills, whereas learners indicated willingness to embrace computer technology in education. Findings further showed greater need to equip schools with computer technology and training teachers. Based on the findings, recommendations were made to train teachers in integrating computer technology, and that schools should be provided with necessary computer technology resources. / Educational Studies / M. Another goal in the research was to understand the interactive experience of women in social networks and their implications in contemporary youth cultural practices exercised periphery of the city, which serves as reference in the struggle against gender inequalities and racism. Finally, it has been investigated the connections between social interactions, culture and political action in the public sphere. The experience of identity, gender and participation in the online universe was constructed from readings on identity politics, feminist theory, and the social interactions afforded by ICTs. It was made contacts with different types of women through interviews, questionnaires, participation in events, visits to sites, and participation in the online social network. Among the results of the research can be highlighted the strengthening of actions and icons in the dissemination of hip-hop culture and the proposition about the political and social activism. / Estudo sobre as experiências vividas por mulheres negras que participam do movimento cultural hip-hop. Em particular, buscou-se discutir sobre a organização dos arranjos interativos e as relações de pertencimento, presença e empoderamento, tendo como elo a produção musical e as Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação (TICs).Desvendar as implicações que as TICs têm com as práticas culturais juvenis contemporâneas de periferia, que funcionam como referência no combate às desigualdades de gênero e do racismo. Investigar as conexões entre as interações sociais, a cultura e ação política na esfera pública. A experiência de identidade, gênero e participação no universo on-line foi construída a partir de leituras sobre as políticas identitárias, teorias feministas e das interações sociais proporcionadas pelas TICs. Nonetheless, the concept of networks, contrary to common sense and those familiar with the academic world, in fact does not propose a symmetric organization, static and homogenic. The network is, by nature, dynamic and heterogenic, just as is society. Social networks and digital networks demonstrate this. They enlarge and diminish those that that posses different degree of connections and even within these degrees of connection is diverse. The present study is divided into two fundamental parts. The first seeks to understand the concept of networks, and because of this is based on Milton Santos, Pierre Musso and Albert-Láslo Barabási. In the second part, based on research with university students, the concern is to identify the heterogenities that exist in their presence in networks and the practices of use, based on six categories of analysis and activities: personal relationships, studies, work, activism, entertainment and rest activities and information and news. The fundamental question, with respect to the possibility of networks, regards the different levels of participation, or if you will, the heterogeneity of the networks. The result of the study shows the heterogenities in which the students, in spite of their possessing similarities in function of their approximate age, condition social and by the fact of studying in a private university, are different among each other, especially if compared to their areas of formation. It is not only the presence in social networks that create different levels, it is also their practices. However, the concept of heterogenic networks in itself, in the thinking of Milton Santos, Pierre Musso and Albert-Lásló Barabási, is confirmed by the research applied to the university students of the undergraduate presencial courses of the Methodist University of São Paulo, based on the analysis of their presence and practices of use. / As redes sociais pela internet ganham destaque nos processos comunicacionais atuais ao permitirem uma maior interação entre os conectados. Entretanto, o conceito de rede, ao contrário do senso comum e do que se convencionou no meio acadêmico, de fato não propõe uma organização simétrica, estática e homogênea. A rede é, por natureza, dinâmica e heterogênea, assim como a sociedade é. As redes sociais e as redes digitais demonstram isso. Elas aumentam e diminuem seus nós e possuem diferentes graus de conexões, e mesmo nestes graus de conexões são diversas. O presente estudo está dividido em duas partes fundamentais. A primeira visa compreender o conceito de rede, e para isso baseia-se em Milton Santos, Pierre Musso e Albert-Lásló Barabási. Na segunda parte, a partir de uma pesquisa com estudantes universitários, há a preocupação de identificar as heterogeneidades existentes nas suas presenças nas redes e suas práticas de uso, a partir de seis categorias de análise e atividades relacionadas: relações pessoais, estudo, trabalho, ativismo, entretenimento e lazer, e informações e notícias. A questão de fundo, a respeito das possibilidades das redes, é sobre os diferentes níveis de participação, ou seja, a heterogeneidade em rede. O resultado do estudo constata a heterogeneidade, na qual os estudantes, por mais que possuam semelhanças em função da idade aproximada, da condição social e pelo fato de estudarem em uma universidade particular, são diferentes entre si, em especial, se comparados pelas áreas de formação. Não só a presença nas redes sociais se dá em níveis diferentes, quanto suas práticas também são. Portanto, o conceito de redes heterogêneas contido no pensamento de Milton Santos, Pierre Musso e Albert-Lásló Barabási, é confirmado com a pesquisa aplicada aos estudantes universitários dos cursos de graduação presencial da Universidade Metodista de São Paulo, a partir da análise de suas presenças e práticas de uso.

A implantação da assinatura digital no Tribunal Regional Federal da Quarta Região : perspectiva infocomunicacional

Avalia as percepções sobre o uso da Assinatura Digital no Tribunal Regional Federal da Quarta Região por parte dos Desembargadores, tendo como base teórica a Teoria dos Sistemas. Descreve a evolução das assinaturas como forma de identidade do indivíduo, desde os selos-cilindros da Mesopotâmia até a Assinatura Digital, baseada na tecnologia de criptografia. Discute as diferenças entre os paradigmas Custodial e Pós-Custodial, necessários para entender as transformações ocorridas com a introdução das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação na sociedade. Aponta a necessidade de transdisciplinaridade para a elaboração de pesquisas, principalmente entre Informação e Comunicação, por serem bases deste estudo. A partir de entrevistas realizadas com servidores e Desembargadores do Tribunal Regional da Quarta Região, contextualiza as informações coletadas tendo em vista o fenômeno Infocomunicacional, observando aspectos de produção da informação, usos e criação de possibilidades para que aconteça a interação/comunicação. Conclui que, apesar dos usuários verem algumas desvantagens no uso da Assinatura Digital, as vantagens superam em benefícios, proporcionando agilidade no fazer jurídico. / Evaluating the perceptions on the use of Digital Signature in the Federal Regional Court of the Fourth Circuit by Federal Judges, based on the Systems Theory. Describes the evolution of signatures as a form of identity of the individual, since the cylinder-seals of Mesopotamia to the Digital Signature based on encryption technology. Discusses the differences between the Custodial and Post-Custodial paradigms, necessary to understand the changes with the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies in society. Highlights the need for transdisciplinarity to the development of research, especially between Information and Communication, the bases for this study. From interviews with employees and Federal Judges of the Regional Court of the Fourth Circuit, contextualizes the information collected in view of the Infocomunicacional phenomenology, observing aspects of Information production, use and creation of opportunities to happen for the interaction/communication. Concludes that, despite the users see some disadvantages in the use of Digital Signature, the advantages outweigh the benefit, providing the agility to make justice.

The SUAP is an information system that aims to quicken the Labor Justice of Paraíba since it uses Information and Communication Technologies to achieve that goal. After filing a lawsuit - whether in digital or physical media and respecting the table of temporality - it must be fully eliminated (discarded) so as to prevent the subsequent recovery of the information contained therein and thus preserving the confidentiality of such information. The safe discard of digital information differs from the discard of physical information because it requires software applications, procedures and/or mechanisms to ensure that the information stored in digital devices becomes unrecoverable. This research aims to study procedures for the proper disposal of digital archival documents present in lawsuits, is classified as qualitative, has its data collection implemented empirically and performed by laboratory tests of notes, focus group technique and on- line questionnaire, using discourse analysis for the consolidation of the data collected. As a result, mechanisms and software are appointed to enable the safe disposal of digital archival documents, SUAP improvements and the mapping of the organization's processes, besides the disposal model of digital archival documents, which takes into account the characteristics of the TRT- PB and the types of available computer media, based on the literature and analyzed data. / Este trabalho desenvolve um estudo de caso sobre o descarte seguro de documentos arquivísticos digitais presentes em ações judiciais no âmbito da Justiça Trabalhista Paraibana, mediante a utilização do sistema intitulado “Sistema Unificado de Administração de Processos (SUAP)”. O SUAP consiste em um sistema de informação que tem por objetivo dar celeridade à Justiça Trabalhista Paraibana, posto que se utiliza das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação para alcançar tal objetivo. Após o arquivamento de uma ação judicial – seja ela em suporte digital ou físico e respeitada a tabela de temporalidade –, os autos respectivos devem ser eliminados totalmente (descarte), de forma que impossibilite a recuperação posterior das informações ali contidas, de modo que reste preservada, assim, a confidencialidade da informação. O descarte seguro de documentos digitais difere do descarte em suporte físico, pois necessita de aplicativos de software, procedimentos, e/ou mecanismos que assegurem a irrecuperabilidade da informação armazenada nos dispositivos digitais. Esta pesquisa tem, como objetivo, estudar os procedimentos que permitam a correta eliminação de documentos arquivísticos digitais presentes em ações judiciais, a qual é classificada como qualitativa, cuja coleta de dados é implementada de forma empírica e realizada mediante anotações de testes de laboratório, técnica de grupo focal e questionário on-line, o qual se utiliza da análise do discurso para a consolidação dos dados coletados. Como resultado, são apontados mecanismos e softwares que permitam o descarte seguro de documentos arquivísticos digitais, melhorias no SUAP e a necessidade de um mapeamento dos processos da organização, além de um modelo de descarte de documentos arquivísticos em suporte digital, que leva em conta as características do TRT-PB e os tipos de mídias informáticas disponíveis, fundamentadas na literatura e nos dados analisados.
