La deserción en cursos universitarios

El objetivo general de esta tesis es abordar el estudio del fenómeno de deserción estudiantil universitaria mediante un proceso de extracción de conocimiento a partir de datos. En el camino hacia la concreción del objetivo de máxima, predecir la deserción, se pueden encontrar otras metas que aporten información no trivial y de utilidad para la toma de decisiones, por ejemplo, describir o caracterizar a los estudiantes de la UNRN a través de perfiles que ayuden a orientar la implementación de medidas a los estratos en los que las mismas pueden ejercer más influencia positiva. El objetivo específico de esta tesis es caracterizar a los estudiantes de la UNRN que abandonan la carrera en los primeros años. Martin Souček, Ph.D. Digital footprints, within the meaning of digital information informing about a particular person, belongs to the basic of the information society. They can help (e.g. as a proof of professional quality), but also hurt (e.g. documents of inappropriate behaviour, information misused in information attack) a man whom they relate. Managing digital footprints is becoming important for increasing amount of people. Libraries can promote knowledge of procedures for the effective management of digital footprints by information literacy lessons, which is a prerequisite for their application. PhD thesis describes the theoretical, but especially the research level. Activities of Czech libraries in education are mapped for the correct setting of lessons. Questionnaires showed that the topic continues with the current activities and interest in libraries. Knowledge of librarians and library and information studies students about digital footprints was subsequently tested. Knowledge has been proven, however only to a basic, limited level, but they are enough for four lessons designed for children in elementary school in the dissertation....

海峽兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育之比較研究 / A comparative study of library and information science education for the master degree programs between Taiwan and the Mainland China

兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育經過近三十年發展,已各自形成不同的特色,近年來兩岸學術交流頻繁,但鮮少有文獻探討兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育,因此本研究探討海峽兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育之概況及目標之差異,並比較入學資格、畢業要求與專業課程設置之異同,最後再對兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育之評鑑制度做一了解。 / 本研究藉由比較圖書館學研究法及文獻分析法,針對臺灣地區國立臺灣大學、國立政治大學、國立師範大學及國立中興大學,大陸地區武漢大學、北京大學、南京大學及中國人民大學等八所學校為對象進行研究,並且根據研究結果,歸納出兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育的優勢及異同,以做為臺灣未來發展圖書資訊學碩士教育之參考。 / 綜合本研究的分析結果發現,比較兩岸有以下異同:臺灣地區目前有8所圖書資訊學碩士班,大陸則有42所,大陸將「圖書館、情報與檔案管理」做為一級學科,底下又劃分為圖書館學、情報學與檔案學三個二級學科,與臺灣的教育層級不同。臺灣學位名稱為「圖書資訊學碩士」,大陸則為「管理學碩士」。臺灣學校有合聘教師以提升相關學科領域的專業知識。在教學目標方面各有特色,台灣大學以理論實務並重,師範大學培育數位資訊管理人才,政治大學孕育圖書館及檔案館人員,中興大學以培養圖書資訊管理應用人才為特色,大陸四校則以掌握圖書館學基礎理論和專業知識為要旨。兩岸八校皆採用考試入學及推薦甄試,均要求通過資格考試及論文撰寫。大陸對於碩士生外語能力較臺灣注重。專業課程方面,「資訊科技與應用」相關的課程為兩岸八校數量最多,說明了傳統圖書館學已融入資訊科學。八校必修課程保持圖書資訊學核心內涵,臺灣四校選修課程凸顯其教育特色。臺灣地區評鑑制度由「高等教育評鑑中心」主導,大陸地區則是「教育部學位與研究生教育發展中心」負責,臺灣在2008年12月已公布「圖書資訊學教育指南」,大陸則無此類之標準。 / 本研究為兩岸圖書資訊學碩士教育提出以下建議:(一)提升臺灣圖書資訊學碩士生之外語能力。(二)加強臺灣圖書資訊學碩士班師資。(三)課程規劃應結合實務需求。(四)圖書資訊學碩士畢業生應加強專業繼續教育。(五)保持圖書資訊學核心價值且與新科技結合。(六)鼓勵圖書資訊學碩士生積極參與學術活動。 / For nearly three decades, Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs in Taiwan and in Mainland China shape their own features. This study investigates the following issues about Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs in Taiwan and in Mainland China: (1) What is the general condition? (2) How the education goals are different from each other? (3) How the admissions and graduation requirements are distinct from each other? (4) What are the dissimilarities in curriculum design between each other? (5) What education evaluation systems do they possess? / Through comparative librarianship and documentary analysis, this study compares Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs in Taiwan with that in Mainland China, and explores the advantages, similarities, and differences between them, including National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Taiwan Normal University, and National Chung Hsin University in Taiwan, and National Wuhan University, National Peking University, National Nanjing University, and Renmin University of China in Mainland China. It attempts to be reference resource for future development of Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs in Taiwan. / The results are as following. In Taiwan there are 8 institutes offering Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs, and 42 in Mainland China. In Mainland China, Library, Information and Archival Studies belongs to national first-class disciplines, and containing three second-class disciplines, Library Science, Information Studies, and Archival Studies. This kind of demarcation is different from that in Taiwan. The four institutes in Taiwan confer the degree name as “Master of Library and Information Science,” and the four institutes in Mainland China grant “Master of Business Administration.” The four institutes in Taiwan have affiliated faculty to instruct related professional knowledge. Besides, the goals of Library and Information Science Education for the Master Degree Programs in Taiwan and that in Mainland China are diverse. For example, National Taiwan University emphasizes both theory and practicality. National Taiwan Normal University aims at training digital information managers. National Chengchi University intends to cultivate advanced specialities for libraries and archives, and National Chung Hsin University is characterized by fostering experts of Library and Information Science Management. As for the four institutes in Mainland China, their objectives are to equip students with basic theories and expertise on Library Science. / Entrance exams and recommendation screening examinations are both adopted by these 8 institutes, and students have to write thesis and pass the qualifying examination for graduation. However, foreign language requirement in Mainland China is more strict than in Taiwan. In the part of curriculum, at these 8 institutes, the number of courses planned pertaining to the category of “Information Technology and Application” is the most. It reveals the combination of traditional Library Science with Information Science. Obligatory courses at these 8 institutes conform to the core values of Library and Information Science, and elective courses at four institutes in Taiwan demonstrate their distinct education objectives. About the evaluation for Master Degree Programs, in Taiwan it is led by “Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan,” and in China it is dominated by “China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center.” In addition, “Guidelines for Library and Information Science Educational Programs in Taiwan” was announced in December, 2008. Nevertheless, this kind of sandard is lack in Mainland China. / Based on the finding results, this study proposes six suggestions: (1) Enhance foreign language proficiency of Masters of Library and Information Science in Taiwan. (2) Advance the quality of faculty.(3) Take into account the practical needs when planning curriculum.(4) Enrich professional continuing education for Masters graduating from Library and Information Science. (5) Maintain the core values of Library and Information Science, and also integrate with new technology. (6) Encourage Masters of Library and Information Science to actively participate in academic activities.

An evaluation of the information literacy education of MBA students at the University of Stellenbosch Business School

Magister Bibliothecologiae - MBibl / This study investigates the effectiveness of the information literacy education that Master of Business Administration (MBA) students receive at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB). The literature reveals that there is a growing trend worldwide to extend information literacy education to include graduate students. The study uses the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Standards for Higher Education Competencies as the theoretical framework together with Kuhlthau’s Information Search Process. Both process and formative evaluation was used in the study. A mixed method approach was applied to gather data for the study using a pre- and post-information literacy questionnaire, interviews with the information literacy facilitator and the research methodology lecturer and a rubric assessment of students’ group assignment. The information literacy intervention focuses mainly on ACRL Standard 1, with more emphasis on ACRL Standard 2. ACRL Standards 3, 4 and 5 were briefly mentioned as it was difficult to cover all the ACRL Standards adequately within a once-off information literacy session.The results of the study show that the information literacy intervention was successful in introducing students to some of the electronic resources which is one of the major objectives of the intervention. Students’ scores in the pre- and post-information literacy questionnaire and the group assignment were high. This could be an indication that the information literacy intervention was a success. The interviews with the information literacy facilitator and the research methodology lecturer reveal that little collaboration between the library and business academics is taking place. This lack of collaboration affects the quality of the information literacy education in terms of business academics input in the information literacy intervention and in terms of reinforcing information literacy outcomes in students’ assignments. One of the recommendations is that collaborative relationships should be developed between the library and business academics in order to develop an information literacy plan that will fully integrate information literacy within Masters’ courses.

Bibliotecas escolares: políticas públicas para a criação de possibilidades / -

Esta pesquisa partiu da atual situação da biblioteca escolar brasileira; instituição que, ainda quando existente, é marcada sobretudo por concepções centradas em apenas uma de suas características: uma coleção organizada de recursos informacionais. A questão ganha destaque no presente momento, com a emergência da Lei Federal no 12.244/10, que determina a obrigatoriedade da criação de bibliotecas nas instituições de ensino nacionais e as define exclusivamente como um acervo, bastando, portanto, ações centradas na garantia do acesso à coleção disponibilizada pelas bibliotecas para o cumprimento da determinação oficial. A partir deste contexto, o estudo indica a necessidade do desenvolvimento de políticas públicas ocupadas não somente com a criação de bibliotecas escolares, mas principalmente com sua ressignificação na educação, garantindo que se ocupem com o direito de informar-se que crianças e jovens têm, apropriando-se de informação e cultura. Com o objetivo de conhecer e sistematizar categorias implicadas na implantação de políticas públicas para bibliotecas escolares, a pesquisa - de natureza qualitativa - contemplou uma abordagem de referencial teórico e de estudo exploratório - por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas - sobre a implantação da política pública municipal levada a efeito na cidade de São Bernardo do Campo (SP), que teve como fruto a Rede Escolar de Bibliotecas Interativas (REBI), concebida a partir do paradigma da apropriação cultural. Como resultado, foram sistematizadas categorias a serem consideradas numa política pública voltada à criação, ressignificação e consolidação da biblioteca escolar em nosso país. / This research was based on the situation of Brazilian school libraries; still scarce in the educational environment and when they exist are usually only a collection of book; an organized collection of information. The issue takes on more relevance with the creation of Brazilian federal law no 12.244/10 which mandates the creation of libraries in all national educational institutions and defines them solely as a collection of material. Therefore, efforts focused only on providing access to library materials are sufficient to fulfill the schools obligation under the law. In this context, the study recommends the development of public policy focused not only on the creation of school libraries but also, and crucially, on redefining them, ensuring that they will be focused not only on the right to access information, but also the right to know how to access and use it. Aiming to understand and define criteria for the implementation of public policy for school libraries, this qualitative research included a theoretical approach and also an exploratory study - through semi-structured interviews on the implementation of the municipal public policy carried out in São Bernardo do Campo (SP), which led to the creation of Rede Escolar de Bibliotecas Interativas, a network of libraries based on the concept of apropriação cultural (Portuguese term that means the construction of meaning for the use of the informational/cultural Center). As a result, the criteria to be considered in public policy aimed at the creation, redefinition and consolidation of school libraries in Brazil have been defined.

Die Neue Rückenschule ist ein standardisiertes Rückenschulkonzept der Konföderation der deutschen Rückenschulen, dessen Hauptanliegen in der Förderung der Rückengesundheit und der Verhinderung der Chronifizierung von Rückenschmerzen besteht. Die Zielsetzungen und Inhalte der Neuen Rückenschule richten sich in erster Linie nach den aktuellen Europäischen Leitlinien zur Prävention von Rückenschmerzen und den für die Prävention formulierten Kernzielen für Gesundheitssport. Diese Festlegungen basieren auf dem biopsychosozialen Modell, dem Salutogenesemodell und der Internationalen Klassifikation der Funktionsfähigkeit, Behinderung und Gesundheit (ICF). Mit ihrem multimodalen Programm zielt die Neue Rückenschule darauf ab, dass Menschen ein eigenverantwortliches, gesundheitsorientiertes und Risikofaktoren vermeidendes Handeln aufbauen, ihr individuelles Gesundheitspotential fördern und damit das eigene Wohlbefinden und ihre Lebensqualität verbessern. Das Konzept integriert sowohl bewegungsbezogene praktische als auch informations- und verhaltensbezogene theoretische Anteile. Dennoch steht bis dato eine Wirksamkeitsprüfung der Neuen Rückenschule, insbesondere zur Vermittlungsstrategie der Neuen Rückenschule aus. So liegt das Erkenntnisinteresse der vorliegenden Dissertationsschrift in der Beantwortung der Frage, inwieweit die Intervention Neue Rückenschule im präventiven Kontext günstige Effekte bezüglich der Parameter gesundheitsbezogene Lebensqualität, Rückenschmerzen, körperliche Aktivität, (rücken-)gesundheitsbezogenes Wissen, Selbstwirksamkeit und Kontrollüberzeugung hervorruft. Eine Analyse, ob der nachhaltige Mehrwert der Neuen Rückenschule darin besteht, theoretische Wissensvermittlung und praktische Übungsanteile miteinander zu vernetzen, stellt ein weiteres zentrales Ziel der Arbeit dar. So lässt der momentane Stand der Evaluation noch offen, ob nicht bereits die kognitiv-theoretischen Module die Effekte der Neuen Rückenschule zu einem sehr hohen Anteil erklären. Zur Beantwortung dieser Fragen wurde eine Längsschnittstudie mit Versuchs-Kontrollgruppen-Design durchgeführt, die eine dreimonatige Intervention mit zwei unterschiedlichen Vermittlungsstrategien vorsah. Die empirischen Analysen konzentrierten sich auf die Beschreibung von unmittelbaren Effekten der Intervention sowie Nachhaltigkeits-Effekten sechs Monate nach Interventionsende. Zusammenfassend wird ersichtlich, dass insbesondere für eine Verhaltensänderung im Sinne der Implementierung von körperlicher Aktivität und einer langfristigen Bindung an diese, spezifisches Wissen allein offenbar nicht ausreicht, sondern Handlungserfahrungen und Körperwahrnehmungen in Verbindung mit erlebter Selbstkompetenz den Erfolg einer Intervention maßgeblich bedingen.

Name Networks: A Content-Based Method for Automated Discovery of Social Networks to Study Collaborative Learning

As a way to gain greater insight into the operation of Library and Information Science (LIS) e-learning communities, the presented work applies automated text mining techniques to text-based communication to identify, describe and evaluate underlying social networks within such communities. The main thrust of the study is to find a way to use computers to automatically discover social ties that form between students just from their threaded discussions. Currently, one of the most common but time consuming methods for discovering social ties between people is to ask questions about their perceived social ties via a survey. However, such a survey is difficult to collect due to the high cost associated with data collection and the sensitive nature of the types of questions that must be asked. To overcome these limitations, the paper presents a new, content-based method for automated discovery of social networks from threaded discussions dubbed name networks. When fully developed, name networks can be used as a real time diagnostic tool for educators to evaluate and improve teaching models and to identify students who might need additional help or students who may provide such help to others.
