Insights in Entrepreneurship Education : Integrating Innovative Teaching Practices

Kleemann, Michael January 2011 (has links)
The  purpose  of  this  study  is  to  identify  and  analyze  reoccurring  insights  in Entrepreneurship  Education  (EE)  literature,  fill  gaps  in  the  scholarly  discussion,  and develop innovative teaching tools for entrepreneurship educators. The study is based on an in-depth  review  of  the  current  EE  literature  drawing  on  insights  from  about  70  studies. The analysis finds a clear need for: EE on the university level; clear goals and objectives; clear  program  descriptions;  a  more  practical  orientation;  and  true  alumni  networks. Additionally it finds that EE should be interdisciplinary, student-centered, practical, as well as containing strong elements of reflection, support, and networking. These findings are a valuable  resource  for  educators  interested  in  innovative  teaching  practices  and entrepreneurship  program  design  in  a  university  context.  This  paper  develops  three suggestions  on  the  use  of  innovative  teaching  practices,  namely  a  course  on  business models,  an  adapted  form  of  business  simulation  with  a  focus  on  cross-disciplinary networking, and a comprehensive class in entrepreneurial venturing that takes the student through all steps of establishing and growing a business.

Sousa, Kleber Abreu 20 October 2013 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2015-04-20T12:31:36Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Kleber Abreu Sousa.pdf: 2173963 bytes, checksum: c50b3a4609f00940b9603215e39b2bf3 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-10-20 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The purpose of this project was to evaluate the dynamics of innovation in biobusiness in the city of Manaus, in the food & beverage and herbal & phytocosmetic companies in order to investigating their practices, based on structured interviews. It was possible to detect the elements that characterize innovation manifested more intensively in the segments of herbal & phytocosmetic than in the food & beverage. Through the analysis of the information collected could also be concluded that the innovative environment for these organizations begins to gain a little more robust, evidenced when observing the articulation of most businesses with ICTs and business support agencies. In some cases, this relationship seems to be more synergistic, in others not so much, but it was important to note that there is a search for such cooperation. The concern and interest of businesses in herbal & phytocosmetic in competing bids to grant and effort that has been done to innovate through access to foundations and funding reveals a new setting for these organizations. This suggests that the availability of government resources, continuously, and the development of programs that encourage interaction between universities and the private sector can stimulate the emergence of new companies in these segments. From these findings it was possible to detect the existence of "innovative activities" in companies considered that, although one can not say that they form a cohesive and effective in each of them, can serve as a basis for guiding policies to encourage development segment of food & drinks and herbal & phytocosmetic.

Parques tecnológicos do estado de São Paulo: incentivo ao desenvolvimento da inovação / Science parks in the state of São Paulo: fostering the development of innovation

Rita de Cássia Nonato Melo 05 March 2015 (has links)
The creation of science parks has been quite adopted to encourage the innovative process in Brazil. There is a large increase in the number of science parks initiatives, a fact that reflects the specific incentive policies to parks and the importance that innovation has as part of the economic development process. Considered environments capable of developing innovative activities in companies, science parks aim to bring together specific elements that create a synergy able to forming collaborative networks for innovation. Relations between companies, universities and research centers receive so prominent importance since they can engender innovation and technology transfer. Thus, science parks can provide innovative environments that, according to Aydalot (1986), correspond to the external conditions that drive enterprise adoption of innovation and that can play a decisive role in the incubation of innovation process. In Brazil, the state of São Paulo is the federal entity with the largest number of initiatives science parks and is also the only one to have a specific policy for promoting them, the Paulista System Technology Parks - SPTec. Based on the analysis of science parks in the state of São Paulo in operation and final accreditation in SPTec, this thesis seeks to understand the modus operandi of the parks in fostering innovation as support structures as structures capable of giving rise to innovation. In this movement, science parks can compose innovative environments.

Dominance, Personality and Innovation in Black-Capped Chickadees ('Poecile atricapillus')

Devost, Isabelle January 2016 (has links)
Social dominance influences many aspects of the life of animals living in social groups, including fitness. Recent work suggests that individuals occupying different positions in a dominance hierarchy may differ in their behavioural and cognitive traits. The first objective of this thesis was to determine whether personality (i.e. consistent behavioural differences between individuals) is correlated with dominance in natural groups of black-capped chickadees (Poecile atricapillus) in the wild. Dominance relationships within these groups were highly asymmetrical and transitive, which is typical of linear dominance hierarchies. None of the measured personality traits (i.e. aggressiveness in hand, exploration, activity and neophilia) were significantly correlated with dominance. These results suggest that personality does not contribute to the formation of black-capped chickadee hierarchies and add to the growing body of evidence that inherent attributes of individuals are not sufficient to explain the structure of linear dominance hierarchies observed in the wild. The second objective of this thesis was to investigate how dominance and correlates of competitive ability (i.e. sex, age and body condition) are related to novel problem-solving performance, which is a proxy for innovativeness, the invention of new behavioural patterns or the modification of an existing behaviour in a novel context. Problem-solving performance was not significantly associated with sex, age or body condition, but dominants were more efficient problem-solvers than subordinates. This finding suggests that efficiency when solving a novel problem might be driven by cognitive capacity instead of the necessity induced by the social position of an individual. Overall, results of this thesis help to better understand dominance hierarchies in wild groups of animals.

Výnosy a náklady patentového režimu / The costs anf benefits of a patent regime

Třísková, Julie January 2012 (has links)
This thesis deals with patents and their impact on innovative activity. Patents represent some kind of regulation of a free market which should improve market failures and create incentives for innovation activity. This stimulation should be then reflected in the growth of technologies. The relation between patenting and productivity which represents the growth of technologies is analyzed on panel data comprising of Finland, Denmark, Italy, Great Britain and the Netherlands. The analysis is undertaken on the industry level, namely on chemical industry, as firms in this industry consider patents as being an efficient form of invention protection. The outcomes of my analysis imply a difference between short term and long term relation between patents and productivity. Patents do not seem to influence productivity immediately, they seem to have a negative impact in the long run though.
