Learning-Based Approaches for Next-Generation Intelligent NetworksZhang, Liang 20 April 2022 (has links)
The next-generation (6G) networks promise to provide extended 5G capabilities with enhanced performance at high data rates, low latency, low energy consumption, and rapid adaptation. 6G networks are also expected to support the unprecedented Internet of Everything (IoE) scenarios with highly diverse requirements. With the emerging applications of autonomous driving, virtual reality, and mobile computing, achieving better performance and fulfilling the diverse requirements of 6G networks are becoming increasingly difficult due to the rapid proliferation of wireless data and heterogeneous network structures. In this regard, learning-based algorithms are naturally powerful tools to deal with the numerous data and are expected to impact the evolution of communication networks.
This thesis employed learning-based approaches to enhance the performance and fulfill the diverse requirements of the next-generation intelligent networks under various network structures. Specifically, we design the trajectory of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to provide energy-efficient, high data rate, and fair service for the Internet of things (IoT) networks by employing on/off-policy reinforcement learning (RL). Thereafter, we applied a deep RL-based approach for heterogeneous traffic offloading in the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) to cover the co-existing requirements of ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) traffic and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) traffic. Precise traffic prediction can significantly improve the performance of 6G networks in terms of intelligent network operations, such as predictive network configuration control, traffic offloading, and communication resource allocation. Therefore, we investigate the wireless traffic prediction problem in edge networks by applying a federated meta-learning approach. Lastly, we design an importance-oriented clustering-based high quality of service (QoS) system with software-defined networking (SDN) by adopting unsupervised learning.

On the Scalability of Four Multi-Agent Architectures for Load Control Management in Intelligent Networks / On the Scalability of Four Multi-Agent Architectures for Load Control Management in Intelligent NetworksAhmad, Raheel January 2003 (has links)
Paralleling the rapid advancement in the network evolution is the need for advanced network traffic management surveillance. The increasing number and variety of services being offered by communication networks has fuelled the demand for optimized load management strategies. The problem of Load Control Management in Intelligent Networks has been studied previously and four Multi-Agent architectures have been proposed. The objective of this thesis is to investigate one of the quality attributes namely, scalability of the four Multi-Agent architectures. The focus of this research would be to resize the network and study the performance of the different architectures in terms of Load Control Management through different scalability attributes. The analysis has been based on experimentation through simulations. It has been revealed through the results that different architectures exhibit different performance behaviors for various scalability attributes at different network sizes. It has been observed that there exists a trade-off in different scalability attributes as the network grows. The factors affecting the network performance at different network settings have been observed. Based on the results from this study it would be easier to design similar networks for optimal performance by controlling the influencing factors and considering the trade-offs involved. / C/o Aijaz Ahmad, House No. E-97/A, Street No. 4, Super Town, Walton Road, Lahore Cantt.-Pakistan, Tel +92-42-6655070

Cooperative Vehicle-Signal Control Considering Energy and Mobility in Connected EnvironmentHaoya, Li January 2023 (has links)
The development of connected vehicle (CV) technologies enables advanced management of individual vehicles and traffic signals to improve urban mobility and energy efficiency. In this thesis, a cooperative vehicle-signal control system will be developed to integrate an Eco-driving system and a proactive signal control system under a mixed connected environment with both connected vehicles (CVs) and human-driven vehicles (HDVs). The system utilizes CVs to conduct an accurate prediction of queue length and delay at different approaches of intersections. Then, a queue-based optimal control strategy is established to minimize the fuel usage of individual CVs and the travel time delay of entire intersections. The system applies the model predictive control to search for the optimal signal timing plan for each intersection and the most-fuel efficient speed profiles for each CV to gain the global optimum of the intersection. In this thesis,
a simulation platform is designed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system under different traffic scenarios. The comparison with the eco-driving only and signal control only algorithms verifies that the cooperative system has a much more extensive reduction range of the trip delay in the case of medium and high saturation. At low saturation, the effect of the system is not much different from that of the eco-driving algorithm, but it is still better than the signal control. Results show that the benefits of CVs are significant at all different market
penetration rates of CVs. It also demonstrates the drawback of the system at high congestion levels. / Thesis / Master of Applied Science (MASc)

O motor destas tecnologias, entretanto, é a energia, particularmente a eletricidade. / The importance of new technologies in the field of, automation, monitoring, information technology and electronic systems have increased significantly in recent years. These technologies play a basic role in the modern society and contribute of decisive way for the resolution of important challenges for a society that is in search of a more prosperous life, internationally competitive, healthful, safe and sustainable. As a key of \"innovation\", these technologies are key factors for all the productive sectors of the economy in the society. The fuel for the engine of these technologies, however, is the energy, particularly the electricity. Thus, in a society whose life style is strongly dependent of electricity, to develop technologies that not only allow the generation, but also the distribution of energy in a cheap and clean way and which could guarantee its supply throughout the time with the maximum efficiency is a priority issue. The systems based on intelligent networks fully meet these requirements, representing what there is of most modern in the electric sector. The Brazilian energy scenario is quickly changing over the recent years toward modernization, with more distributed generation, in the form of smaller generators, more customer interaction, the integration of more variable resources such as wind and solar, and more renewables overall. For the Power Utilities, especially in the Distribution Sector, the focus is clearly in the reduction of commercial losses and operational costs, mainly by means of the modernization of the assets and an increase in the installation of intelligent electronic devices at consumers side (e.g.: electronic energy meters, intelligent electronic devices for condition monitoring, digital relays etc.). This work presents a solution developed based on Brazilian technology that incorporates all the benefits of smart grid to the most important equipment that is present in the topology of the Low-Voltage Secondary Network Distribution System: the Network Protector. From the neuralgic center of these Low-Voltage Secondary Network Systems, which topology is used in the most important cities in Brazil, which has a high load concentration, the solution presented here make it feasible technically and economically the use of smart grid topology profiting from its great benefits such as: Allow utilities to better optimize the grid to support a number of public policies, from intermittent renewable integration to more dynamic interfaces with customers; Offer utilities more flexibility relative to how they use energy toward the greater societal objectives of reducing greenhouse gases and energy consumption. In the short and mid term, a smarter grid offers utilities operational benefits (outage management, improved processes, maintenance and workforce efficiency, reduced losses, etc.) as well as benefits associated with improved asset management (system planning, better capital asset utilization, etc.), lower investment to acquire new Network Protectors.

Changing from the silo model to the horizontal layers model in public policy regulations: the implications and potential for the telecommunications industrySpencer Logan, Lemuella C. 12 1900 (has links)
The end of the Twentieth Century and the start of the Twenty First Century has been a tumultuous time for the Telecommunications Industry. Even as it moves forward to embrace the new technologies the Industry finds itself embroiled in issues of governance. The Industry finds itself in a dilemma since innovations increase at a rate faster than the laws can be changed and these render its existing laws and policies to be in some cases obsolete and inappropriate for the reality of the present. In the past, the United States of America has relied on vertically integrated top down laws and methods of regulating all the different parts in its Telecommunications Industry. These laws are contained in the different numbered Titles of this Countrys Legal Codes. Since the inception of these laws, emphasis was placed in creating and documenting policies structured by industry, sector and type of content. This form of regulation is usually referred to as the Silo Method. However, in recent years, especially in the regulation of the Telephony industry, the method of law and rule formulation moved from content regulation to one in which the technologies are getting regulated in what has been described as a Layers Method. This paper first considered whether the Silo Method of regulation is in actuality the same as using the Horizontal Layers method and showed that this is the case. Then it determined that Enhanced Services are the same as Basic Services and that Telecommunications Services are the same as Information services and showed that given that the pair sets as noted were the same, it went on to conclude that all these services were essentially the same. While studying to some detail the technologies of VoIP, the paper also showed that VoIP although an Internet technology is similar to traditional telephony, and is both a Telecommunications Service and Information Service based on the definition as given in the law as well as the technologies that are used and that as a result of this, the current regulatory environment for this service with regards to telephony is inconsistent. It concluded that Telecommunications policies though now adequate may need to be modified.
