Introduction: Information overload occurs when received information exceed the consumer's ability to process the information and the consumers are overwhelmed by the information. How the consumer can process the information and if the consumer will be overwhelmed depends on the quantity and quality of the information. There is a large amount of information on social media and social media is a crucial platform for companies to communicate to consumers, that can cause information overload, whereas the information consumer receives effects consumers purchase intentions. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explain the effect information overload in terms of quantity and quality of information on social media has on consumers purchase intentions. Conceptual: The theory regarding information overload was conceptualised with the theory of consumers purchase intentions. This lead to the two hypotheses; H1: Information overload in terms of quantity of information on social media has a positive effect on consumers purchase intentions; H2: Information overload in terms of quality of information on social media has a positive effect on consumers purchase intentions. Methodology: The research approach used was deductive with a quantitative nature. Following, a questionnaire was formed and shared online in order to gather data to meet the purpose. The sample used was convenience- and snowball sampling and consisted of social media users. After collecting the data, 173 responses could be used and the answers was then analysed to get the results. Result: Both hypotheses could be rejected. H1, did not have a effect on consumers purchase intentions and H2, had a negative effect on consumers purchase intentions. Conclusion: When putting information overload in a social media context and its effect on consumer purchase intentions, the results differs compared to previous research of information overload in terms of quantity of information but not regarding information overload in terms of quality of information.

Esta pesquisa realizou um estudo exploratório junto a alguns professores de ciências da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Belo Horizonte, com o intuito de prospectar os elementos constituintes do planejamento desses docentes. Sem a intenção de apresentar fórmulas de como planejar e sem julgamentos ao planejamento realizado pelo professor, o objetivo central deste estudo foi a realização de uma ausculta nas intenções e ações desse professor, analisando-se também as várias questões que perpassam o ato de planejar. Como coleta de dados, foi utilizada a entrevista semiestruturada, acompanhada de questionários estruturados, sendo que os resultados apresentam, entre outros aspectos, as intencionalidades presentes no ato de planejar. Esta pesquisa é constituída por quatro capítulos, que abordam desde os conceitos e a importância do planejamento, passando pelas tendências apresentadas pelo ensino de ciências, em decorrência do contexto histórico em que se insere a sociedade, até o trabalho dos docentes da Rede Municipal de Ensino de Belo Horizonte, cuja prática é condicionada pelas forças, pressões e condições oferecidas pelo sistema. / This search performed an exploratory study with some science teachers of municipal schools of Belo Horizonte, with the aim of exploring the elements of the planning for these teachers. Without the intention of presenting formulas for how to plan and without judgment to the planning done by the teacher, the central objective of this study was to perform an auscultation in the intentions and actions of this teacher, also analyzing the various issues that underlie the act of planning. As data collection, we used semi-structured interview, followed by structured questionnaires, and the results show, among other things, the intentions present in the act of planning. This research consists of four chapters, which range from the concepts and importance of planning, through the trends presented by science education, due to the historical context in which it appears the company until the work of teachers of municipal schools of Belo Horizonte, whose practice is conditioned by the forces, pressures and conditions offered by the system.

O problema do Desaparecimento do Agente é uma objeção que tem assolado a Teoria Causal da Ação ao longo da maior parte da sua história contemporânea, mesmo tendo essa teoria se tornado a ortodoxia da explicação de ações. A objeção questiona qual seria o papel do agente, se é que ele teria algum, se apenas seus estados mentais parecem ter um papel causal relevante na produção de ações, como afirma a Teoria Causal da Ação. Essa questão permanece sem resposta satisfatória e recentemente tem originado até mesmo versões recentes do problema do Desaparecimento do Agente que levam o Livre Arbítrio e a consciência em consideração como sendo centrais para o debate. Assim, aceitar a Teoria Causal da Ação requer lidar com o problema em questão. Esse debate se beneficiará do diálogo com a psicologia e a neurociência e, com base nessa troca, eu argumentarei que o problema do Desaparecimento do Agente surge de uma concepção equivocada do que seria um agente humano e qual seria o seu papel na produção de suas ações. Isso se torna claro quando percebemos que essa concepção não corresponde ao nosso conhecimento científico atual a respeito da produção das ações humanas. Aceito isso, eu proponho então uma concepção diferente de agentes que não permite o surgimento do problema do Desaparecimento do Agente. / The problem of the Disappearing Agent is an objection that has haunted the Causal Theory of Action for most of its contemporary history, even if this theory has become the orthodoxy of action explanation. The objection questions what role, if any, is reserved for the agent, if only her mental states seem to have a relevant causal role in the production of action, as the Causal Theory of Action would have it. This question remains unsatisfactorily answered, and has even originated recent versions of the Disappearing Agent issue, which take Free Will and consciousness as being at the center of the debate. Therefore, acceptance of the Causal Theory of Action requires dealing with such problem. This debate will benefit from a dialog with psychology and neuroscience, and based on this exchange I will argue that the issue of the Disappearing Agent springs from a misguided conception of what is a human agent and what is the agents role in the production of her action. This becomes clear when we realize that this conception does not correspond to our current scientific knowledge about the production of human action. Accepting this, I then propose a different conception of agents that does not allow for the Disappearing Agent problem to rise.

Coping with drought and flooding : a framework for engendering household and community resilience to water management extremes

Achieving resilient outcomes in the water sector is an area of emerging policy and research focus in light of a combination of threats such as climate change, increasing demand, urbanisation, and population growth. Consequences of these threats require that in order to achieve these resilient outcomes, urban water management socio-technical systems require various interventions at different levels. This includes the water user level and highlights the need for greater understanding of households in implementing coping interventions to address extreme system failures of drought and flooding. A combination of methodological approaches, data collection and analytical methods have been used to develop detailed understanding of water service user perceptions and intentions towards drought and flood coping in order to engender action for resilient water management at the household and community levels. Practitioner interviews have provided insight into core issues of household and community level participatory approaches for addressing drought and flood resilience. These include cross-cutting themes relating to modes of communication and engagement, the influence of past experience, empowerment, and the influence of social networks. Results of a questionnaire survey within the framework of Protection Motivation Theory facilitated understanding of the linkages among threat, consequences, and coping intentions. The most significant indicators of behavioural intentions were the perceived effectiveness of coping response measures, consequences of drought or flooding, and costs. These variables were significant in defining sub-groups at three different decision-stages after Trans-theoretical Model. Households were at early decision stages with regards to flood coping, namely `Pre-contemplative' and `Contemplative'. Pre-contemplatives had low behavioural intentions and were driven by low efficacy and low consequences. Contemplatives had low-medium intentions, expected either that cost would be a limiting factor, measures ineffective, or consequences too low to warrant action. `Responsives', only found in relation to drought coping, had already implemented several coping measures. Despite low drought consequences, cost was not a limiting factor and measures were perceived to be effective, illustrating the potential for increased household drought coping or more sustainable water use practices. This study provides important baseline data on household perceptions and intentions to cope with droughts and floods not yet widely explored in the UK. The innovative use of cluster analysis to identify and explore decision-stages provides methodological contributions to the literature. Finally, the thesis has led to the development of an assessment and decision framework to promote action towards resilient water management at the household and community levels. This framework is the basis of a toolkit that was co-created with communities and practitioners with the outcome of communities developing action plans to address the consequences of drought and flooding.

Employee Job Satisfaction and Employees' Voluntary Turnover Intentions (VTIs)

Within the U.S. sales industry, organizational productivity has decreased due to employee job dissatisfaction and increased voluntary turnover intentions (VTIs). Some leaders in the industry lack knowledge about the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction, and the negative effect on employees' VTIs. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine whether intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction significantly predicted retail sales employees' VTIs. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) and the Turnover Intentions Scale (TIS-6) were used to collect data from full- or part-time employees in the U.S. retail sales industry. The theoretical framework was based on Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory. The results of a multiple regression analysis indicated that a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction, F (2, 87) = 3.51, p = .034, R2 = .08), significantly predicted employees' VTIs. However, extrinsic job satisfaction (t = 2.05, p = .034) was the only statistically significant predictor. Business leaders, who understand the factors that increase extrinsic job satisfaction, may increase retention within the organization, provide workforce stability, improve organizational and economic growth, and decrease costs related to job satisfaction and VTIs. The implications for social change include helping to reduce the economy's unemployment rate and improve relationships between the employees, their families, and their communities include (a) improving employees' and stakeholders' perceptions of their organization in the community and (b) improving employees' well-being by understanding the job satisfaction factors that improve their morale.

Parent-Adolescent Communication and Adolescents' Sexual Intentions

This study investigated the quality and quantity of sexual communication between teens and parents in relation to the teens' sexual intentions. Perceptions about communication were examined of parents and adolescents of both genders separately. Both same- and cross-gender effects of parental communication on adolescent sexual intent ions were explored. Approximately 290 families (target teen and parent) were measured in pre- and posttests. Parents perceived higher quality communication with teens than teens did, but not necessarily more frequent sexual communication. As teens' perceptions of quality of communication with mother and father went up, teens' sexual intentions went down. The higher sons' intention toward early sexual involvement, the more often sons perceived that their parents talked with them about sexual issues. Daughters who perceived more sexual communication with parents at Time 1 reported higher sexual intentions at Time 2. Fathers perceived that as quality and frequency of communication with daughter went up, the daughter's sexual intentions also went up. Fathers perceived that as frequency of communication with all teens went up, the teen's sexual intentions also went up. Mothers perceived that the higher the quality of communication with sons at Time 1, the higher the sexual intentions among sons at Time 2. The more often mothers perceived that their daughters talked with them about sexual issues at Time 1, the higher the daughters' intention toward early sexual involvement at Time 2. The more the di screpancy between teens and fathers and mothers about communication quality, the more the adolescents' intention toward early sexual involvement.

EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF AUTISM AWARENESS INTERVENTIONS FOR GENERAL EDUCATION STUDENTS: A META-ANALYSIS

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses are on the rise, increasing the likelihood of having a student with ASD in the general education classroom. Students with ASD may be included in the general education setting; however, inclusive educational experiences are negative for many students with ASD. ASD awareness interventions have been implemented to help general education students improve their attitudes, behavioral intentions, and understand their peers with ASD. In the current study, empirical articles evaluating the effectiveness of ASD awareness interventions were identified and quantified. Two research questions were addressed: (a)Are ASD awareness interventions effective for general education students? and (b) Do ASDawareness interventions increase general education students’ attitudes, behavioral intentions, orknowledge of students with ASD? In addition, the following moderators: (a) age (b) gender (c) school level, and (d) message were evaluated. Results showed that ASD awareness interventionsare effective for general education students, and that ASD awareness interventions improveattitudes, behavioral intentions, and knowledge of ASD. In addition, age, school level, andmessage moderate the effectiveness of ASD awareness intervention.

THE IMPACTS OF VISIBLE/INVISIBLE IDENTITY CHARACTERISTICS ON EMPLOYEES’ PERCEPTIONS OF DISCRIMINATION, JOB SATISFACTION, AND TURNOVER INTENTIONS

Every individual associates him/herself with a specific and sometimes a unique identity. In a workplace setting individuals may choose to either openly display and/or speak about their identity or they may choose to conceal it. Research shows that manifestation and/or suppression of an identity in the workplace can affect individual outcomes such as perceptions of discrimination, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions. The present study investigated whether an identity characterized as visible and/or invisible would affect an individual’s decision to either manifest and/or suppress his/her identity. The study further examined the effects of identity management techniques used by individuals on their perceptions of discrimination in the workplace, job satisfaction, and intentions to leave the organization. The sample included 369 individuals who were at the time of the survey at least half time employed. Independent-samples t-tests were used to test the relationship between identity characteristics and identity management. Path analyses was used to analyze the hypothesized relationship between identity management, perceptions of discrimination, job Satisfaction, and turnover intentions. The study found that individuals with an invisible identity are more likely to suppress their identities. It was also found that identity suppression had a direct positive relationship with perceptions of discrimination. Perceived discrimination was found to have a negative correlation with job satisfaction and a positive relationship with turnover intentions. Additionally, the study found that Job satisfaction is negatively correlated with Turnover Intentions. The importance of proper diversity management strategies and the role of an inclusive work environment on employees’ decision to either manifest and/or suppress their identities are discussed.
