It was conducted through a qualitative research with unstructured interviews applied to nine business leaders who internationalized their companies using the consultant s support. It was found that the consulting firms, for the companies included in this study, had strong decision power on the alternatives adopted by its customers, enabling a new insight into the conditions of internationalization processes, studied mostly under the light of the firm s structural characteristics and their market forces. This study should be relevant to explain the participation of consulting companies in a framework that supports the study of business internationalization phenomenon with potential contributions, both in the theoretical and practical field. For scholars and teachers can contribute to a better understanding of business internationalization process, incorporating new factors considered in the characterization of this process. For researchers can help in creating larger models representing the business internationalization phenomenon, increasing the level of explanation of the phenomenon by introducing variables directly related to consulting activity. In addition, for business owners and general managers may indicate the need to create strategies to monitor interests and incorporate alignment elements of the consulting activities within international projects - or other types of projects that resemble them - in order to increase the adherence of alternatives offered to the interests of their own organizations.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-10-13T14:09:58Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Orlando Vieira Sampaio Junior.pdf: 5515214 bytes, checksum: a276d245d4b30a0066f0e00cc9eabdb8 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-08-21 / Due to the recent 2007-2008 global financial crisis, two topics that are growing in importance are the internationalization of the financial system and the regulation of this system. Although the financial system regulators of several countries take part of international bodies such as the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision to establish principles and rules to be adopted locally, there is still no global regulatory uniformity and banks in different countries may be subject to different forms and levels of regulation. This research aimed to study whether there is a relationship between the more or less restrictive regulatory environment of countries and the degree of internationalization of its domestic banking system, measured by the percentage of foreign assets to the total assets of the system. Using several public databases and a panel data methodology for the analysis, the conclusion is that, in a more comprehensive manner, regulation has influence on the ternationalization of the banking market. However, some variables have a positive impact on this internationalization while others the opposite effect.

Communication as a CROSS-CULTURAL challenge for international management; a case study of Gina Tricot

Mordenfeld, Frida, Johansson, Sandra, Hinojosa Giron, Pamela January 2012 (has links)
Cross-cultural communication challenges arise for managers in international corporations on a daily basis, and in order to evaluate why these challenges occur we conducted a case study in collaboration with the fast-fashion corporation Gina Tricot. Our work challenges the influential theory that cultural proximity leads to less miscommunication within the business environment. By using Griffith’s model on a fashion-based corporation, our thesis demonstrates that geographical distance is not an aiding factor in superior communication within multinational corporations, however, the longevity of relationships have a more deciding impact.   Global expansion and the rapid development of technology contribute to faster communication possibilities across boarders, therefore the highly international, dynamic and quick communication based fast-fashion industry becomes an interesting object when studying cross-cultural communication. Moreover, this research will investigate which specific areas of business communication that creates the greatest challenges for international managers within the fast-fashion corporation Gina Tricot’s cross-cultural operations.   Our secondary sources are mainly based on previous models and guidelines for effective cross-cultural communication, with David Griffith’s model of “Communication Effectiveness” as a main resource. Furthermore, it enabled us to test how well Griffith’s model applies in the fast-fashion industry. Our primary data was obtained by a close collaboration with Gina Tricot in a case study fashion, by conducting personal interviews with retail and purchase managers. Trough our research and analysis we concluded that the core flaw with previous models is based in their rigidness and lack of flexibility to adapt to different circumstances. We base our conclusions on the notion that as human behaviours is dynamic and highly unpredictable, so is also culture and therefore even communication.

Implications of cross-cultural communication in business : A study of Swedish small enterprise “ImseVimse” and its international distributors and retailers

Kvantaliani, Maka, Klimina, Olga January 2011 (has links)
In times of rapid economic development and internationalization of business, effective cross-cultural communication among managers remains a challenge. This thesis aims to research and analyze cross-cultural communication in business context based on qualitative case study of a small Swedish company and its international business partners. Previous research has focused on differences and similarities in people’s behaviour and ways of communication based on their cultural background. Through in-depth analysis and application of existing theories to the chosen case study company, the findings of this research demonstrated that although national culture does have an undeniable influence on people’s behaviour and their communication style, implications in communication between business partners of different cultural backgrounds often connected to an individual approach to cross-cultural communication. A great emphasis was placed on the language being one of the biggest communication challenges facing SMEs in international arena. Finally, misunderstandings occurring due to communication through technological devices were discussed.

Internationalisation of the health club industry : theory, practice and context

Richardson, Nicole H. January 2003 (has links)
The leisure industry has been one of the fastest growing industries in Britain (Grade, 1998), and in the year 2000 accounted for approximately 10% of Britain's gross domestic product (LeisureWeek, 2000a). Health clubs have been one of the fastest developing business sectors within the leisure industry (Mintel, 1999), and there is predicted to be plenty of scope for future growth (Mintel, 2001). The health club sector has evolved greatly since its inception, with developments including consolidation, diversification, bi-polarisation and market segmentation. One of the most recent trends in the sector has been intenationalisation, with fifteen British companies now having a presence overseas. This research seeks to analyse the process by which the British health club sector has developed from being purely domestic based to having significant overseas investment. A number of stages within that process are identified including the motives to internationalise, the choice of country, the mode of entry utilised and the management and co-ordination of overseas activities. One of the key objectives of this research is to determine if a holistic view of internationalisation is appropriate, or even plausible for the health club sector. The research suggests that the influence of environmental and company-factors results in a company's initial decision to internationalise, with certain 'determinants' regulating which companies actually invest overseas. A number of ownershipspecific factors are identified that establish which companies might be able to compete effectively overseas. The process of internationalisation. is then analysed and a number of factors established which influence the companies' choice of country to invest in, the mode of entry and the manner in which the overseas investments are managed.

Особенности внедрения ценностей корпоративной культуры западных компаний в российских подразделениях : магистерская диссертация / Features of the introduction of corporate culture values of Western companies in Russian divisions

С., Shakhova, A. S. January 2018 (has links)
The relevance of the topic is due to the need for the head of the Russian branch of a cross-cultural company to make decisions on the implementation of the best way to manage personnel: the optimal leadership model, the correct incentive schemes for employees, an adequate reporting system and performance monitoring, helping to form and maintain an effective work team capable of fulfilling the tasks set. The purpose of the thesis is to identify the features of the adaptation of the values of corporate cultures of Western companies to their Russian divisions in order to improve the personnel management system. The main results of the work are as follows. Most European models of building organizational culture are being introduced and adapted in Russia quite successfully, provided that the company has selected personnel with a certain European mentality and psychological characteristics. When developing managerial decisions, the manager should take into account the peculiarities of the Russian mentality and, above all, the tendency to collectivism and erosion of personal responsibility, as well as a high degree of emotional closeness of employees, when personal personal qualities are sometimes put at the expense of business qualities.
