Student Achievement in Response to Intervention Groups

Gardenhour, Allison L 01 May 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to identify components of Response to Intervention (RTI) groups associated with increased student growth on progress monitoring tests. The relationship between student growth scores and fidelity of implementation scores, types of groups, types of interventionists, group setting, group time, and various demographic groups were examined. Seven hundred fifteen students enrolled in reading and math groups in an RTI program at 8 schools in an Upper East Tennessee school system participated in this study. Ten research questions and null hypotheses were analyzed using Pearson correlations, independent t tests, and one-way Analyses of Variance. Results indicated significant gains for RTI students in every type of reading and math intervention group and every demographic population. These results contradicted current nationwide studies on RTI in which students made limited gains in intervention.

Moretti, Sandra 11 1900 (has links)
Since 2006, the Programme Hors Normes (PHN) (Standards Non-compliance Program) of the “Direction de santé publique de Montréal ”, has set new guidelines for Occupational Health Teams with regard to workers who have been exposed to environmental concentrations of chemical agents that exceed permissible exposure levels, in other words, that are “standards non-compliant.” The PHN oversees the reporting of non-compliance to the relevant authorities and ensures that employers conduct rigorous follow-up. In doing so, the program has redefined the roles of occupational health team nurses. This exploratory study aims to describe the representations of these nurses with regard to the PHN and to better understand how they represent their practice into the PHN. Individual semi-directed interviews were conducted among seven nurses. Qualitative analysis of the data, through categorization and consistent comparison of narratives, reveals the various ways nurses represent their practice in the PHN. Their representations of their practice appear to derive from four elements: work organization, work relationships, intervention target, and work satisfaction. To increase nurses’empowerment, to take into account the ways in which he PHN has prompted them to reflect on their practice, and to promote cross-sector and cross-professional cooperation, the study suggests that nurses should participate in the planning and implementation of intervention programs and that on-going training should be provided in order to further harmonize professional practice.

Autism in inclusive education : the employment of TEACCH in a secondary school in Auckland, New Zealand : a case study

Ngara, Chipo 06 1900 (has links)
Many educators are experiencing challenges in educating autistic learners, with the media reporting incidents of autistic learners being denied access to their local schools. This case study investigated how effective the TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication Handicapped Children) model is, in helping autistic learners to learn in an inclusive environment. The data collection instrumentsused included a literature review, questionnaires, interviews and artefacts. The collected data were analysed statistically, and descriptively. It seems as if there is perception that autism is increasing. Teachers need to be taught about full support mechanisms to deal with the challenges of teaching autistic learners. The research revealed that teachers were struggling to implement the TEACCH program owing to a lack of support programs for teachers, as well as a lack of continued use by other teachers. It was revealed that the teachers felt that for intervention programs to be successful, autistic learners should learn separately. / Inclusive Education / M. Ed. (Inclusive Education)

No. of bitstreams: 1 1991.pdf: 2090923 bytes, checksum: 268a7956e70405ff540aed35df776b8a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-03-31 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Admission at the elementary school is an important moment in the process of education. Literature has shown that to guide the family in this process, using resources from the family environment, may be fundamental in preventing school problems. In that context, this work implemented and evaluated a proposal of intervention in the form of a Programa Psicopedagógico de Orientação a Pais (PPOP) - Psychopedagogical Program of Parents Orientation -, for the parents and relatives responsible for children with learning disabilities included in the early years of elementary grades of regular public school and were attended by the itinerant service of special education, in order to provide strategies for monitoring and stimulation of their children in that stage of education. The study was developed as the ethical aspects of researches that involve human beings. The first stage of the research (Program s elaboration) tested the PPOP and the instruments in an experimental situation, whose analysis showed that the Program was able to be implemented on a larger scale and was satisfactory as the form and content, from the reports of the participants. The used instruments also were sensitive to the demand for collection. On the second stage, the implementation of the Program, participated in this research eleven parents of students who were on the early years at public elementary school and their respective children, which composed two groups experimental and control). It is relevant to mention that the content approached in the program is based on the book Como ajudar seu filho na escola ( How to help your child in school ). Besides the PPOP, the instruments used to collect data were: Home Environment Resources Scale - HERS, Roadmap, interviews with parents, Brazil s Criterion of Economic Classification, School Achievement Test, Roadmap " Situations and the Evaluation Questionnaire Course. The evaluation of the program found the effectiveness of it, from the assessment of all the steps and comparison of results of pre - and post-tests. The results allowed to assert the need for continuation of activities of that nature. The results allowed to assert the need for continuation of activities of that nature. The results showed: a) interest of mothers receive support in situations where information about the "do not know how to deal with the child" b) an increase in the repertoire of mothers of educational practices appropriate c) implementation of positive strategies on a daily basis with the children in the short term; d) the relevance of programs of this nature with parents of children with learning disability. In future studies it is suggested investment in training of ducators to use the POPP and development of strategies that extend the benefits of the program to more families.

Ribeiro, Máyra 26 February 2007 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:46:21Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 4920.pdf: 489498 bytes, checksum: 9e4b0d1ab8d50b5b6eaedfc2626327aa (MD5) Previous issue date: 2007-02-26 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Lead is a toxic metal that affects all the organs and systems of the human body, being its absorption bigger in children and pregnant women. Although the harmful effect of lead in infantile development (e.g., hyperactivity, cognitive deficit, low efficiency at school, etc) there are no studies on the effect of intervention programs for this population. The objectives of this work were: 1. to compare, the acquisition of abilities (foreseen in the Portage Guide) for children of 3 to 5 years old, with average level of lead equal to 21 g/dl at four moments and 2. to verify the effect of two domiciliary interventions (A: individual training of the mother according to procedures of the Portage Guide, and the other, B: toys and models of tricks available to the child - environmental enrichment) in its performance. Two groups of 4 children were analyzed, being two groups of intervention and one of waiting control. The delineation counts on: evaluation retrospect (2002/03), a pre-test evaluation of all children in Portage Guide and HOME; implementation of the intervention programs with groups A and B (23 sessions); sounding the trained and emergent behaviors (application of the Portage Guide); retaken of the intervention program (9 weeks); post-test 1 (Portage Guide and HOME); post-test 2 (Portage Guide); post-test 3 with only one child of each group; besides the weekly evaluation of the children s performance through observation and record and posterior intervention with the controlled group. The results pointed to a decay of performance in the Portage Guide of evaluation 2002/03 for the pre-test, in the three groups, being the greater deficits in the cognition and language areas. After the period of intervention, children from group A got greater addition of behaviors, followed by group B and finally group C. The environment quality and care of these children came to be insufficient, but with improvements to the intervention for the submitted groups. It can be concluded that the two interventions speed up the development, but with better results for the intervention with parents guiding. The results indicate, also, that deficits of behavior tend to extend themselves throughout the time when it comes to this population.
