Occupational stress, burnout, job satisfaction, work engagement and organisational commitment of educators on senior level in the Sedibeng West district / Yolandé van Zyl

Van Zyl, Yolandé January 2003 (has links)
The pace of changes in South African education institutions has profound effects on the teachers. Due to internal and external influences teaching is a much more demanding occupation than in the past, with significant consequences for the teacher. All the changes in the education system cause stress. Possible outcomes impacting on the teacher are burnout, work disengagement, job dissatisfaction and organisational commitment. The objective of this research was to investigate the relationship between occupational stress, burnout, job satisfaction, work engagement and organisational commitment of educators on senior level in the Sedibeng West District - Vanderbijlpark. The research method was by means of two separate studies, each consisting of a brief literature overview and an empirical study. A cross-sectional survey design was used. A stratified random sample of educators on senior level in the Sedibeng West District - Vanderbijlpark (N = 140) was used. Six questionnaires were administered, namely, the Maslach Burnout Inventory- General Survey (MBI-GS), the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES), the ASSET Organisational Stress Screening Tool, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), the Organisational Commitment Questionnaire and a Biographical questionnaire. Statistical analysis was carried out with the help of the SAS-program and Amos. Limitations of the research are discussed, followed by ecommendations for the teaching profession and future research. / Thesis (M.A. (Industrial Psychology))--North-West University, Vaal Triangle Campus, 2004.

The influence of motivation on employee's job satisfaction : a study of First Bank Nigeria PLC

Meshi, Chantale, Tukur, Asiya Muazu January 2016 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of this study is an attempt to find out the influence motivation has on employees’ job satisfaction based on our case which is First Bank Nigeria Plc. To be able to meet this objective, several motivation theories were discussed and intrinsic/extrinsic motivational factors as found in related literature were taken into consideration. Methodology: The researchers carried out a qualitative study where secondary data was obtained from textbooks and peer reviewed journal articles from the school library in order to identify existing scientific knowledge concerning this topic. Also, primary data used were collected through Skype interview and through email with the aid of formulated open-ended questions. Both the company and the interviewee were chosen based on convenience sampling. Data obtained underwent a reduction phase as the authors reduced the work into keywords. Data was later organized and emerged patterns were interpreted for better understanding by the reader. Result & Conclusions: From this study, the authors found that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation enhances employees’ job satisfaction. This was evident through the various factors like increment in salary, perceived equality in pay, conducive environment amongst others numerated by respondents as what will increase their satisfaction in the work they do. Limitations: The study is limited to one case company and thirteen respondents from a specific branch. As such the results obtained cannot be easily generalized. Secondly, employees whose job did not connect directly to banking activities like securities, messengers and cleaners were not considered in this study. Scope for further studies: Due to our limitations, we suggest that similar studies should be carried out on the influence of motivation on employees’ job satisfaction in several banks and including securities, messengers and cleaners to see if the results differ from the results of our study. Also our theoretical framework can be extended by showing the influence job satisfaction or job dissatisfaction has on employees’ attitude towards work. Contribution of the thesis: This study contributes to the previous literature on the concept of motivation and job satisfaction especially the influence motivation has on employees’ job satisfaction. The practical implications of this research work for managers is to pay their workers appropriately in order to enhance job satisfaction.

Drivkraft och förankring : Betydande aspekter för anestesisjuksköterskors beslut att avsluta sin tjänstgöring.

Henriksson, Stefan, Axelsson, Therese January 2016 (has links)

Expectations and Experiences : A qualitative study on expectations role on turnover intentions as nursing students transitions into the role of a practicing nurse

Jonsson, Henrik, Höjer, Rasmus January 2016 (has links)
The world, including Sweden, is suffering from a shortage of nurses. The nurse shortage is caused by many factors, including an aging population causing a rise in demand, considerably fewer applicants for high school nursing programs, and a large wave of retirement as the baby boomers are leaving the work force. However, research has found that no single thing is more responsible for the nurse shortage than the inability to keep able nurses in the nurse force as they voluntarily terminate their employment. Research has also found that young nurses and newly graduated nurses are more likely to terminate their employment than nurses who have been working for a long time. One of the explanations for this problem is the special problems nurses face during the transition from student to practicing nurses. This thesis aims to help the health care institutions of Sweden, and the world, by further explaining the problems nurses face in the transition from nursing student to practicing nurse. This is done by examining the expectations nurses have on the profession before they start studying, and before they graduate, and examine how the nurses perceive that their expectations have been confirmed or disconfirmed. Further we examine how the nurses perceive that their confirmed or disconfirmed expectations affect their job satisfaction and in extension, their will to terminate their employment and leave the profession. In order to examine the subject, we conducted a qualitative study. Semistructured interviews were held with eight nurses in order to assess how their expectations had affected their current view on their job and what disappointments and positive surprises would infer. The data we gathered from the interviews were analyzed thematically. The main themes we derived from the data were: Emotions – Driver in Early Expectations, Expectations and Experiences in the Transition Period, Confirmation of Early Expectations, Expectations Role in Job Satisfaction, and Expectations as a Factor in Turnover Intentions. We could conclude that there were certain areas where nurses’ positive expectations were confirmed, e.g. meaningfulness of the job. There were also areas where nurses experienced a reality worse than what they expected, such as stress, work environment, responsibility, feedback, and emotional challenges. From subthemes of these general themes we crafted a conceptual model to illustrate how both early and later expectations affect the job satisfaction, opinions on the profession, and turnover intentions of the nurses.

The Relationship between Teachers' Perception of Administrative Dimensions and the Morale Status of Teachers in Certain Texas Schools

Pryor, Guy Clark, 1907- 08 1900 (has links)
The first purpose of this study was to determine teachers' perception of administrative policies, procedures, and practices in the various administrative units in three Texas school systems and to test the significance of the relationship between the teachers' perception of the dimensions of these aspects of administration and the morale status of the teachers in these various administrative units. The second purpose of this study was to identify those policies, practices, and procedures, as perceived by the teachers, which most frequently are associated with and show a significant relationship to a high morale tendency and those which most frequently are associated with and show a significant relationship to a low morale tendency. The third purpose of this study was to interpret the significant relationships in terms of administrative dimensions and implications which may suggest certain policies, procedures, and practices for the improvement of teacher morale in the public schools.

Motivators of Job Satisfaction for Elementary School Principals in Central Virginia

McQueen, Michelle K. 01 January 2007 (has links)
This study investigated the overall job satisfaction level and motivators of job satisfaction for elementary school principals in Central Virginia using the MinnesotaSatisfaction Questionnaire (1977) revision via Web-based survey through Virginia Commonwealth University's Inquisite Survey System. The research literature supports job satisfaction of school principals being a worthwhile topic of study. Researching aspects of job satisfaction is important because a job is not merely life-sustaining, but enriching and enhancing (Darboe, 2003), and the impact of leadership on everyone in schools is substantive. Elementary principals' general job satisfaction level was investigated using descriptive demographic data and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) through Web-based survey. Using 4 of Frederick Herzbergfs (1959) 6 motivators from the MSQ (i.e., Achievement, Advancement, Recognition, and Responsibility), job satisfaction level was examined in terms of variance in relation to the respondents' gender, age, level of education, salary level, years of experience, number of full-time assistant principals, school socioeconomic status, school size, or accreditation status assigned by the Virginia Department of Education. This study collected information from 85 out of a possible 151 public elementary school principals across 14 school divisions in Region I of Central Virginia. The findings of this study suggest that on an overall basis respondents were satisfied with their jobs. They were also satisfied with their job as it relates to Herzberg's four motivators associated with those particular scales of the MSQ. Findings demonstrated that job satisfaction level did not significantly vary in relation to the nine demographic variables except in one category, level of education. Respondents with education beyond master's degrees were more satisfied with their sense of achievement. The response rate for this Web-based survey was 56%. This response rate contrasts with most literature that described Web-based surveys as having lower response rates than mailed surveys (Fricker & Schonlau, 2002). This indicates that principals will answer Internet surveys in higher numbers when asked to do so, when using repeated contacts, and/or when a colleague requests their participation. It would be worthwhile to replicate this study using a wider demographic area or through the use of qualitative methodology.

Exploring employee preferences for the Farm Credit System incentive program

Crider, Autumn Marie January 1900 (has links)
Master of Agribusiness / Department of Agricultural Economics / Brian Niehoff / The purpose of this thesis was to examine the relative efficacy of the incentive plan for loan officers within Farm Credit of the Virginia’s, ACA (FCV). The purpose of FCV’s incentive plan includes promoting firm financial growth and stability, employee retention, and encouraging teamwork. Incentive plans are important financial decisions for companies and these plans have upside potential and downside risk that should be considered in the decision making process. A literature review was conducted to analyze incentive practices and management theory in addition to a review incentive plans from other Farm Credit associations. A survey was also conducted to understand loan officer perceptions of the current incentive plan at FCV. The results of the survey provide insight into employee perceptions about job satisfaction, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, organizational commitment, understanding of the incentive plan, and timing of incentives. Finally, observations with regards to potential improvement in the incentive plan were provided.
