In this work it is presented the supersymmetrical formalism that consists of a generalization of the factorization method to find the solution of Schrödinger equation. The harmonic oscillator and the hydrogen atom are decided through this formalism. For the potential of Lennard-Jones (12,6) the variational method is used, where we use the supersymmetry to find a wave function that is similar to the real function, this procedure is made through the choice of a superpotential that generates an effective potential that approaches to the original potential. With this the autofunctions and the autovalues for the fundamental state and the first state excited are found. Some gotten numerical results are compared with others found in the literature.

A fine and growing art: Norman Mailer, William Styron, and James Jones in conversation

LaFarge, Albert January 2012 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University. Please note: Editorial Studies works are permanently embargoed in OpenBU. No public access is forecasted for this item. To request private access, please click on the locked Download file link, and fill out the appropriate web form. / A Fine and Growing Art is an annotated edition of letters and other documents chronicling the intertwining relationships and careers of Norman Mailer, James Jones, and William Styron, three prominent figures in American literature of the past century. I have endeavored to collect every surviving letter exchanged between the principals; I also include letters of other interlocutors, and published writings in which the principals discuss one another (or are discussed by others), insofar as these collateral documents touch informatively upon the principals' relationships with one another. A Fine and Growing Art is an elaborated three-way conversation, bringing forward expressions of opinion and feeling both public (in the sense of published, and often prominently so) and candid (in the reserved company of friends, or even in the near-secrecy of an unsent draft). Often funny, occasionally outrageous, consistently engaging, A Fine and Growing Art begins to unravel the mysteries long surrounding these three literary titans-about their friendships particularly, their feuds also, their evolving art, and how it all came to pass. / 2031-01-01

The Khovanov homology of the jumping jack

Salazar-Torres, Dido Uvaldo 01 May 2015 (has links)
We study the sl(3) web algebra via morphisms on foams. A pre-foam is a cobordism between two webs that contains singular arcs, which are sets of points whose neighborhoods are homeomorphic to the cross-product of the letter "Y'' and the unit interval. Pre-foams may have a distinguished point, and it can be moved around as long as it does not cross a singular arc. A foam is an isotopy class of pre-foams modulo a set of certain relations involving dots on the pre-foams. Composition in Foams is achieved by stacking pre-foams. We compute the cohomology ring of the sl(3) web algebra and apply a functor from the cohomology ring of the sl(3) web algebra to {\bf Foams}. Afterwards, we use this to study the $\mathfrak{sl}(3)$ web algebra via morphisms on foams.

Fiction as History: James Jones, <em>From Here to Eternity</em>.

Sonnenburg, Penny Marie 04 May 2002 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines one of James Jones's novels, From Here to Eternity,as more than a fictionalization of historic events. Juxtaposing the correspondence between the author and his brother, begun when James Jones enlisted in 1939, and the novel allows an understanding of the extent that the novel was a distillation of Jones' personality and experience. Jones felt fiction must be pieced from real experiences, but also contain original emotions disguised in the pages of a novel. Analyzing Jones's personal letters, interviews, and experiences offers, with some degree of certainty, the understanding that From Here to Eternity is more than merely a famous novel. It is an entertaining exposition of not only what military service does to men, but also what it emotionally did to James Jones. Thus this study reveals how much an author incorporates the essence of his historical experience-his "soul"-into his work.

A Study of Topological Invariants in the Braid Group B2

Sweeney, Andrew 01 May 2018 (has links) (PDF)
The Jones polynomial is a special topological invariant in the field of Knot Theory. Created by Vaughn Jones, in the year 1984, it is used to study when links in space are topologically different and when they are topologically equivalent. This thesis discusses the Jones polynomial in depth as well as determines a general form for the closure of any braid in the braid group B2 where the closure is a knot. This derivation is facilitated by the help of the Temperley-Lieb algebra as well as with tools from the field of Abstract Algebra. In general, the Artin braid group Bn is the set of braids on n strands along with the binary operation of concatenation. This thesis also shows results of the relationship between the closure of a product of braids in B2 and the connected sum of the closure of braids in B2. Results on the topological invariant of tricolorability of closed braids in B2 and (2,n) torus links along with their obverses are presented as well.

Resultatmanipulering inför aktiefinansierade förvärv i Norden

Thorzelius, Martin, Andersson, August January 2022 (has links)

Settler Colonialism in U.S. Popular Media as Influencing Perceptions of Material Culture and Museum Ethics

Patrick, Cara Rose 12 June 2024 (has links)
The everyday person living in the United States does not first encounter ethics of material culture and collecting solely by visiting a museum. This MA Thesis seeks to look at how action-adventure "treasure-hunting" media introduces people to fields such as archaeology, anthropology, and museum studies through entertainment media. Frameworks of settler colonialism are used to understand the intentionality behind and subsequent impact of these films in a US-based context. Media effects theories of cultivation, framing, and agenda setting are also applied to understand how messages are facilitated through media such as the Indiana Jones (1981-2024), National Treasure (2004-2023), and "Outer Banks" (2020- ) franchises. The core aim for future thought and research is to understand how museums and filmmakers alike may more ethically and equitably represent people and material culture. / Master of Arts / In the United States, the allure of museums is supported by action-adventure "treasure-hunting" media, like the Indiana Jones (1981-2024), National Treasure (2004-2023), and "Outer Banks" (2020- ) franchises. Settler colonial ideologies, which seek to legitimize white settlers' relationship to the land in the United States, are present in the production and consumption of this media. Communication-based media effects theories, which explain how media messages influence an audience's point of view as a result of the media they consume, support that there is a relationship between action-adventure "treasure-hunting" media and museums on audience outlook.
