No. of bitstreams: 1 Claudia Bredarioli.pdf: 563860 bytes, checksum: 44d14d9d42a6a75c750ab6064e0fa072 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-04-02 / In a scenario formed by the globalization process emerged from the technological progress, the Internet access in private places (lan-houses) portrays a movement that apparently begins to create new paths in the search for economic and social inclusion of youths from poor neighbourhoods of large Brazilian cities. To identify in what way or until what point attending lan-houses leads to this process of inclusion is one of the challenges that communication researchers face. These places have become socializing agents that must be studied in particular because they lack characteristics of formally organized institutions such as school, family and Church; and therefore allow the appearance of new cultural practices brought by these contemporary mediatic supports which take over new social urban spaces. In this study we attempt to further understand the issue by elaborating a cultural and mediatic consumption map of this youth – which the results point out the existence of a large mass of functional Internet users, still unable to completely grasp new technologies or take advantage of day-to-day possibilities on the net in the constitution of citizenship.

No. of bitstreams: 1 EmersonHS_DISSERT.pdf: 3506096 bytes, checksum: 88d17d7e36e1677c47a4a2f8166b30c8 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-03-19 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / In a highly dynamic society such as we live, have access to the virtual world is an increasingly common practice, is aiming to study, work or to search leisure through chat rooms, sites and games, being incorporated by the most varied groups that end up appropriating these new possibilities of interaction, shaping them in order to adapt them to their needs / wants. The specific purposes pursued through the use of tools available over the Internet can vary considerably when one takes into account specific user groups, which makes the topic quite relevant to problematization, especially when we take into account access through lan houses. This research seeks to study the networks of knowledge, sociability and leisure formed by young people who frequented the "Lan house do Paulo" in S?o Gon?alo do Amarante - RN based on the use of the online role-playing-game World of Warcraft, which makes possible the interaction of several users through an avatar resident in a virtual world, theoretically questioning the importance of this type of platform for the development and maintenance of social interactions among its users / Em uma sociedade extremamente din?mica como a que vivemos, ter acesso ao mundo virtual ? uma pr?tica cada vez mais comum, seja com a finalidade estudar, trabalhar ou ainda de procurar lazer atrav?s de chats, sites de relacionamento e jogos, sendo incorporada pelos mais variados grupos que acabam por se apropriarem dessas novas possibilidades de intera??o, moldando-as de forma a adequarem-nas ?s suas necessidades/vontades.

Network Design Considerations in Telemetry Systems

Grebe, Andy, Klein, Wayne 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2007 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Third Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2007 / Riviera Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / In today’s world, computer networking has become common place both in industry as well as home, however all networks are not the same! The Telemetry world, like with many industries, has critical design considerations that need to be evaluated when you begin a new system or just adding on to a current infrastructure. This paper is intended to outline needed considerations when planning or implementing a network design in Telemetry Systems. These applications can range from sensor data transport through High Definition/High Speed Video applications.

SYSCON 2000 and the DESA Data Relay System

Anderson, Norman 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California / The Defense Evaluation Support Activity (DESA) is an independent Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) activity that provides tailored evaluation support to government organizations. DESA provides quick-response support capabilities and performs activities ranging from studies to large-scale field activities that include deployment, instrumentation, site setup, event execution, analysis and report writing. As the applications of computer systems has dramatically increased in recent year a corresponding increased has ocurred in the data processing needs of test orgznization. One client in particular wanted the realtime ability to track the performance of a country-wide communications system. Commercially developed networking software and hardware were employed to facilitate this requirement. To enhance DESA's off range test support capability a DESA system named SYSCON 2000 has been under steady development for the last five years. In particular the ability to use multiple voice grade telephone lines to create a wideband data channel from almost anywhere has been developed and refined. Link flexibility has been enhanced by the use of dedicated, COTS RF spread-spectrum links, cellular telephones, and other transmission media. The current version of SYSCON 2000 supports test director virtual presence via live data displays and video teleconferencing capability.

SMART SENSORS VS DISTRIBUTED DATA ACQUISITION

Myers, Robert L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 22-25, 2001 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / Distributed processing is coming to data acquisition. The desire for smart sensors that can preprocess data, is growing. Making sensors themselves intelligent will reverse the historic trend toward smaller and cheaper sensors. Incorporating current sensor technology into data acquisition nodes in a network will create a distributed data acquisition, DAQ, environment that can acquire data from around the world over the Internet. The future is now.
