Cruz e Sousa: "zazděný" básník brazilského symbolismu / Cruz e Sousa: the "walled-in" Poet of Brazilian Symbolism

Korpaczewski, Pavla January 2019 (has links)
This master's thesis deals with the analyse the poem in prose "Walled-in" by Brazilian black symbolist poet João da Cruz e Sousa. At the beginning it outlines the author's life and work. An insight into the starting points of Symbolism follows, accompanied by a detailed characterization of the essential features of its poetics as represented in the works by Cruz e Sousa. The analysis itself begins with the definition of the poem genre in prose and a brief outline of the content of the "Walled-in", which is a synthesis of the poet's artistic and life options resulting from being a black man. On this basis, I have determined the fundamental themes (Night, Art, Pain and Blackness), in which the poet's exclusion as an artist and as a negro. The initial intimate confession turns into a fiery speech that fights back narrow- minded artistic production of the period and the Negro discrimination.

Gauger Quiroz, Juan Manuel 07 July 2011 (has links)

Architectura Laticis

Solórzano, Ramiro 18 August 2011 (has links)
Public spaces can have the Architecture that supports the movement of people, a rhythmic movement from one space to another. This thesis is an exploration on how Architecture can transition in a natural, fluid way. It questions how one moves through space without well-defined boundaries that differentiate one space from another. It challenges how Architecture can move one lithely through space by the ambiguity of borders in between spaces. Previous designers have engaged ideas of movement, rhythm, and transition. Le Corbusier established the idea that Architecture is a successive phenomenon without necessarily having a genesis in which one can experience the whole Architecture without a designated starting point. Bernard Tschumi's set of follies at Parc de la Villette in Paris follow a set of syntactic rules with an infinite combination to reference the transition between one folly to another. Sergei M. Eisenstein describes Architecture as a montage in which a sequential rhythm is established by the placement of buildings. Likewise this thesis is a contribution to that discourse in the blending of edges between spaces. It is an exploration of a fluid ambiguity of boundaries, which support the rhythm of stride as one moves from one space to another. / Master of Architecture

An Internal Dilemma: Different Approaches to Handling Melancholia in Early Modern Spanish Religious Orders

Nau, Jesse T. 01 January 2016 (has links)
This study argues that religious orders in early modern Spain developed informal sets of procedures to handle the consequences of melancholia in their communities. It also argues that three influential members of these orders, San Ignacio de Loyola of the Jesuits, and San Teresa de Avila and San Juan de la Cruz of the Discalced Carmelites, tailored these protocols according to their own private concerns and experience with the disease. The changing discourse surrounding melancholia and similar diseases during the early modern period, alongside the unique environmental concerns of these newly founded orders, created a need for new methods of dealing with the disruptions caused by melancholic members of the clergy. These solutions formed out of the immediate needs within each order, but ultimately defined the relationship between melancholic brothers and sisters and their communities.

Caravaca de la Cruz (comarcal capital of northwestern Murcia) : a social anthropological study of a Spanish provincial town

Pugh, Alaric Sydney January 1983 (has links)
This work is about the secular significance of religious expression in Spain. It is also primarily an ethnographic study of several aspects of everyday life in a Spanish town in 1981. There are four main aims: to explain the relationship between local customs and beliefs and nationally sanctioned symbol systems - in particular, but among others, the relationship between the 750 year old cult of the Cross of Caravaca and the Catholic Church and Spanish State; to describe the unique behaviour of the Fiesta of the Caballos del Vino, and to give an account of one instance of the popular Moors and Christians Fiesta; to describe and analyse the social structure of a provincial town; and to show how important symbols are affected by social change. The thesis is divided into five parts and a conclusion. The first part deals with the geographical setting and the relationship of this study of Caravaca to other anthropological studies undertaken in Spain. The second is concerned with the details of everyday life. It shows the relationship between town and countryside and between everyday economic and political concerns and everyday religious activities. The third part includes a description of the largest and most influential institution in the town - the Cofradia —- and a discussion of religious devotion and the cult of the Cross of Caravaca. The fourth, a description of the Fiestas held in honour of the Cross of Caravaca, and especially the Jubilee year of the 750th anniversary of the apparition of the Cross, the pageant of Moors and Christians, and the unique 'Horses of the Wine 1 competition, provides a contrast with more mundane activities. In the fifth part an examination of the Fiesta symbols contains a discussion of festival behaviour in relation to the everyday life of the town, and changes that have taken place and continue to take place. These sections are followed by a brief conclusion.

In this sense, this research has as main objective to locate, identify, collect, select, organize, analyze, interpret aspects of the body of knowledge, considered to be properly of didactics at the Institute of Education "do Amaral Vieira Leonidas", in the city of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo-SP, between 1953 and 1975, period of operation of this Institute and at the same time, during the which coexisted in the region of the city of Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo-SP two models of courses focused on training primary school teachers; one considered mid-level, the normal schools; and another, of higher level, the course of Pedagogy. Still, I hope to contribute to the production of a Didactics history in Brazil, that assist in finding solutions to the problems of education in the present, and the development of related research. This formulation originates from the belief that, studies that seek to systematize, analyze, and interpret aspects of the history of the disciplines in various teacher training institutions in Brazil contribute to the history of these disciplines in Brazil, for a history of teacher education in Brazil and, ultimately, contribute to the history of education in Brazil. Thus, this research is justified, centered in the history of body of knowledge considered to be properly of discipline Didactics, at the now defunct Institute of Education "Leonidas do Amaral Vieira", in ... Modelagem estocástica do labirinto em cruz elevado / Elevated Plus Maze: a Stochastic Modeling

Arantes, Rafael 27 September 2016 (has links)
The elevated plus maze is widely used in studies related to anxiety in rats. The most widely used measures are the amount of entries and time spent on open arms. Recent studies analyze the movement inside the arms, but do not propose an index that summarizes the analyzes. This thesis summarizes by indices the information in one of these studies. An index uses the first visit average time to each position of the maze and another is based on the stationary probability distribution, the first one are able to differentiate groups of rats submitted to different anxiolytic drugs. These thesis also proposes a Markov process model that incorporates more information than the other model. The comparison between the models showed over- or underestimated values in the first. Finally, this thesis proposes a Markov chains model considering the following behaviors as states: rearing, stretching, dipping, freezing and grooming. This new approach, though oversimplify the model was able to reproduce several known features of exploitation.

No. of bitstreams: 1 DISSERTA??O_SAMLA.pdf: 842743 bytes, checksum: ed530d173e5afdd37b1fde2d115ea526 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-01-18 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico - CNPq / The present study aims to analyse the use of memory, especially of family memory, in the novel Vermelho (2003), from the portuguese writer Mafalda Ivo Cruz. In it, the narrator protagonist, Tito, seeks to recover the genealogy of his family, resulting in a narrative marked by a form that largely reflects the discourse of memory, a theme dear to the author's work. Thus, the theoretical reference used here mainly consists of memory theorists such as Henri Bergson, Maurice Halbwachs, Paul Ricoeur, Aleida Assmann and J?el Candau. Besides that, we resorted to texts from narratology to support the reading of the novel, especially in what concerns the construction of the narrator. From the analysis performed, one can see that, contrary to what is expected of a memory narrative, that is, an organization of the past in a coherent and temporally linear whole, Tito transmits the family's past into a construction that reflects his disturbed mind. The chaos is also a reflection of the fact that the family history in evidence is full of gaps and silences that are often fictionally filled by its members, especially the manipulation elaborated by M?rio, the stepfather, the main responsible for the oral transmission of events to Tito. Ultimately, the objects of the family archive, in addition to being suspected of falsehood, may have been selected arbitrarily to serve the protagonist's purposes. Therefore, the narrator ends by, rather than reconstituting, founding a memory of the family, but the result is problematic, once Tito is not a reliable narrator.
