Belysning för läskamera / Lighting for video magnifier

Nilsson, Roger, Karlstad, Marcus January 2009 (has links)
A video magnifier is a visual aid where a camera is recording on a reading table and then shows thepicture on a display. The picture can then be manipulated so that you e.g. you get a white text on agreen background. You are also able to enlarge the text. As the competition increases and camerasbecome better with HD-technique the lighting that lights up the reading table has to be updated.Today's lighting is irregular and one can see rings after the lenses. It's also desirable to replace today'shalogen lamps. In the report, we check if it is possible that light conductors, reflectors and lenses can give a good andeven light picture. It is also important to find a lighting that reproduces colors in a satisfying way.In order to get a flicker free light we designed a pulse with modulator with high frequency. This makesit possible to dim manually or control automatically for changes in the regular light. The picture is at its best when the light is even over the entire reading table. We investigated in aprogram that might compensate for possible falling or lack of light. The program will be transferredinto an FPGA to enable it to be assembled onto a printed circuit board.

Spectrophotometric measurement automatization for the analysis of enzymatic processes

Nilsson, Karolina January 2010 (has links)
This thesis work consisted of the development of a virtual instrument that automates enzyme activity measurements and spectrum measurements with the spectrophotometer UVmini-1240. The purpose was to expand the functionality of the instrument, to eliminate the human error and to decrease the amount of time spent on measurements. A PC was connected to the UVmini-1240 via a RS-232C interface and the cell position and temperature was regulated with a CPS-240A controller. The new interface allows all the parameters to be set in the same place. It allows a visualization of the continuous monitoring of the sample absorbance and the option to save the data for post-processing. Also a module for measuring the spectrum of a sample in the wavelength range of 190 nm to 1100 nm is included. The graphical programming language LabView was used to develop the virtual instrument. This thesis work also contained measurement series of the catalase enzyme activity. These were carried out to determine the best storage temperature for the catalase solution and to determine the optimal surrounding temperature for the highest activity in the catalase solution. The conclusions were that the activity does not change considerably the first week of storage, not matter the temperature, and that the activity goes down when the surrounding temperature reaches above 30° C. These measurements were part of a bigger project to develop an ultrasonic method for measuring enzyme activity at the Institute of Acoustics at C.S.I.C in Madrid.

Design of a Test Bench for Battery Management

Dussarrat, Johann, Balondrade, Gael January 2012 (has links)
The report deals with energy conservation, mainly in the field of portable energy, which is asubject that today raises questions around the world. This report describes the design and theimplementation of a Battery Management System on the platform NI ELVIS II+ managed bythe software Labview. The first aim has been on finding information about the design of theBattery Management System that corresponds to the choice of the battery itself. The systemwas designed completely independent with different charging methods, simulations ofdischarge, and its own cell balancing, as a 3 cells battery pack was used. The battery chosenwas the lithium-ion technology that has the most promising battery chemistry and is the fastestgrowing. Several experimentations and simulations have been done, with and without cellbalancing that permited to highlight that the cell balancing is mandatory in a Batterymanagement System. Furthermore, a simulation of use of the battery in an Electrical Vehiclewas made, which can lead to conclude that the Lithium-Ion battery must be manageddifferently to be used in the application of an Electrical Vehicle.

Towards Interoperable Seamless Telemetry Display Environments

Guadiana, Juan M., Manshad, Muhanad S., Morris, Scott A., McKinley, Robert A. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper discusses the current development of all-in-one telemetry displays. This system provides a self-configuring environment utilizing common telemetry display objects that setup and deploy. Often range display systems require frequent revision to reason with changing requirements. The display is rendered accordingly as a strip-chart equivalent or other element, per requirements from a flight safety officer for example. Our reusable code system approach is based on a novel abstraction of the display elements. The approach may be deployed beyond the decommutation stage as is typically done or interface directly to a plug in software decommutator. This system's plug-and-play functionality facilitates rapid deployment of interoperable Department of Defense (DOD) range displays and recorders.

Πολύδωρος, Παναγιώτης 13 February 2009 (has links)
In this paper, a resonant converter has been studied and constructed, in order to drive an Ultrasonic motor. In advance, three different control schemes have been applied (OnOff, PID and fuzzy).

Design optimisation and costing analysis of a renewable energy hydrogen system / Rudolph Petrus (Rudi) Louw

Louw, Rudolph Petrus January 2012 (has links)
The South African Department of Science and Technology is striving to develop a means of producing hydrogen gas in remote and civil areas through the use of renewable energy sources. For the purposes of creating such mobile hydrogen production facilities, a small-scale hydrogen production system based on renewable energy sources needs to be developed and modelled. This system is to serve as a pilot plant for further development of a large scale mobile hydrogen production facility. This work focuses on the characterisation of sizing algorithms for renewable energy sources which can determine component configurations that satisfy power requirements of the system. Additionally, optimal sizing techniques must be developed which can output an optimal plant configuration to a user based on cost and efficiency. To this end, a literature study was done on all the components that make up a renewable energy hydrogen system. The techniques researched were then applied to create algorithms capable of correctly sizing the required components of such a plant. These techniques were integrated into an application created in the LabVIEW environment, which is capable of outputting an optimal plant configuration based on the specific needs of a client. A case study was defined with which the results of the simulation models were verified. Using this work, a future, more comprehensive system may be developed and commercialised, building from the techniques implemented here. / Thesis (MIng (Computer and Electronic Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013
