A clínica do bebê pré-termo e a escuta dos pais: questões para a psicanálise / The preterm baby clinic and the hearing of the parents: questions for psychoanalysis

Mariangela de Andrade Maximo Dias 24 September 2008 (has links)
This work discusses the vicissitudes of the constitution of the subject of the desire in the clinic of preterm babies, a constitution that is promoted by the articulation of the motherly and fatherly functions that update to a subject the structure of language, that is, that articulates the desire with the dimension of lack. In the preterm baby clinic, the desiring investment that sustains the symbolic anticipation that presides the inscription of the infans in the discourse and in the desire of the Other is challenged, since parents, the first representatives of the (symbolic) Other for the newborn, are confronted in an untimely way with the duality of life and death. The hearing of the parents during the hospitalization of their babies in an neonatal intensive-care unit reveals that the construction of the primordial bond between parents and children suffers the impact of the techno-scientific discourse, since the place and the knowledge of parents are initially displaced by the medical knowledge and sanctioned as being insufficient to take care of the child. The fragments of the testimonials of the parents presented in this work are analyzed at the light of the teachings of psychoanalysis. This analysis shows that the hearing of the parents humanizes this birth, because it involves them in a psychical elaboration that attenuates the anguish and the feeling of helplessness that follows these births, considering that the premature baby produces a disturbing strangeness in its parents. The psychic support offered to them favors the rectification of the founding gaze in relation to the baby, thus minimizing the impact of the precocious separations that threaten the construction of the bonds of love and desire between parents and children that we know as being a prerogative of the psychic health.

Atravessamentos do feminino na clínica psicanalítica: um estudo sobre Dora e Schreber / Feminine cross-over in the pychoanalytic clinic: a study on Dora and Schreber

Paula Fontana Fonseca 08 November 2007 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to establish the possible relationships between insanity and femininity, using observations from clinical practice, (private practice as well as mental health institutions), as a jumping off point, beginning with theorical contributions from Freud and Lacan. The title feminine cross-over is given to expressions of psychological suffering, particularly in patients who have been through moments of crisis or grave psychological disorientation and which, in their varied manifestations, show signs which refer to the feminine universe. First, a background study of the construction of the concept of hysteria was carried out, in the course of which the clinical profile of hysterical insanity became apparent. Using this, the inclusion of hysteria in the medical field ended up being articulated by three terms loaded into the profile of hysterical insanity: insanity - hysteria - feminine. Next, Dora and Schreber\'s Freudian clinical reports were analyzed, since both illustrate how aspects of femininity which appear in the subjects\' lives can be understood as clinical manifestations, produced as possible answers to the beance (gap) opened by the shock with the enigma of femininity.

Freud, Lacan, and the Oedipus complex

Van der Merwe, Petrus Lodewikus 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2011. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: “Freud, Lacan, and the Oedipus Complex” examines the Oedipus complex as found in the writing of Sigmund Freud and re-evaluated in the works of Jacques Lacan. Lacan‟s critical reappraisal of the Oedipus complex is captured in his 1969-1971 Seminars, published as The Other Side of Psychoanalysis(2007). This thesis examines Freud‟s overemphasis of the Oedipus complex, the myth of the primal horde and the consequent depiction of the father. Lacan doesn‟t dismiss the Oedipus complex completely, but treats it as a dream, and reinterprets it in light of Freud‟s The Interpretation of Dreams (1900). Lacan focuses on Freud‟s overemphasis on the father in both the Oedipus complex and the myth of the primal horde and illustrates how Freud is protecting the image of the father by depicting him as strong, whereas clinical experience shows that the father can be weak and fallible. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: “Freud, Lacan, and the Oedipus Complex” ondersoek die Oedipus kompleks, soos beskryf in die werk van Sigmund Freud en die beskrywing daarvan in die werk van Jacques Lacan. Lacan se kritiese herevaluasie van die Oedipus kompleks verskyn in sy 1969-1971 Seminare, gepubliseer as The Other Side of Psychoanalysis(2007).

Triska, Vitor Hugo Couto January 2010 (has links)

The unconscious as a rhetorical factor: toward a BurkeLacanian theory and method

Johnson, Kevin Erdean, 1977- 28 August 2008 (has links)
This dissertation provides an exploration of the nature and scope of the category of the Unconscious as a necessary feature of rhetorical theory and criticism. In order to demonstrate the fundamental importance of the Unconscious to rhetorical theory and criticism, this dissertation focuses on Kenneth Burke's rhetorical theory of Dramatism. Burke is one of the most frequently cited theorists by rhetorical scholars, and offers a familiar site for rhetorical scholars to understand the Unconscious as a rhetorical factor. Burke formulated a theory of the Unconscious by drawing from Freudian psychoanalysis. Since Freud, Jacques Lacan has advanced and altered the Freudian understanding of the Unconscious. Therefore, by navigating the terrain of both Burkeian and Lacanian scholarship, this dissertation moves toward a BurkeLacanian theory and method to offer a more critical lexicon for the rhetorical study of the dialectical relationship between the conscious and Unconscious parts of the psyche. In doing so, this dissertation develops and answers the following questions: How can we theorize the Unconscious as a rhetorical factor? How is Burke's theory of the Unconscious rhetorically useful? How might we understand Burke's theory of rhetoric differently and better if we read his Freudian influences through Lacanian scholarship on the Unconscious? How is a theory of the BurkeLacanian subject rhetorically useful? How does a BurkeLacanian theory of the Unconscious inform productive criticism? This dissertation applies a BurkeLacanian theory of the Unconscious by introducing a rhetorical method called "Ideographic Cluster Quilting." This method moves toward the rhetorical study of texts as cultural psyches that are constructed from fragments of discourse that form around figures of abjection. In order to demonstrate the usefulness for studying Ideographic Cluster Quilts, this dissertation analyzes the cultural psyche that forms around the figure of the "illegal immigrant" as abject. In doing so, we gain an insight into the Unconscious hatred of humanity as the perverse core of American identity that qualifies which bodies do and do not matter. We will also gain an insight into the way nationalistic identities function within globalization by confining labor forces within national boundaries, while multinational corporations move freely around the world. / text

Desire in Beckett : a Lacanian approach to Samuel Beckett's plays Krapp's last tape, Not I, That time, Footfalls and Rockaby

Wulf, Catharina January 1989 (has links)
This thesis argues that desire is a major theme in Samuel Beckett's dramatic works. Central to our analysis is Jacques Lacan's concept of the Desire for the Other, as the outcome of the human subject's division. We will investigate how desire is expressed at the level of Beckett's characters' utterance. The characters' attempts at and inability to achieve a reconciliation with their speech correlate with the impossibility of reunifying Lacan's split subject. The first part of our discussion focuses upon desire-as-paradox--the lack of will to desire and the continuation of desire--in Not I, Footfalls and Krapp's Last Tape, whereas Rockaby and That Time are indicative of the regression of desire leading toward the characters' death. The second part emphasizes the dramatic presentation of these plays, except for Footfalls. It will become clear that desire affects the performance and the audience, thus preventing them from attaining a unified perception of self and other.

The suspension of mastery and the desire for imaginary : applying Jacques Lacan's theory of the imaginary to the beholder/image dialectic as realised in selected paintings by Lucy Cobern and Gerhard Richter

Cobern, Lucy Rebecca 21 May 2013 (has links)
This dissertation seeks to explore the nature of the self/other, subject/object dialectic that can be found in Jacques Lacan's theory of the Minor Stage and his notion of Imaginary mastery, and how this relationship can be re-read in terms of a beholder/image relationship. What I seek to demonstrate in exploring the relationship between the beholder and the image is the staging of two opposing emotions, aggression and desire and the consequential tussle for mastery that arises from the self/other, and hence the beholder/image, dichotomy. I seek to explore the reasons why such a beholder/image relationship becomes ambivalent, due to veiled, obscured and fragmented images. / KMBT_363 / Adobe Acrobat 9.54 Paper Capture Plug-in
