Valim, Rosenara Evaldt January 2017 (has links)
This Master’s thesis had as study object the analysis of the students-teachers’ comprehension in relation to the learning portfolio and the reflexive synthesis in the learning process of the Pedagogy Distance course of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The observation of the students-teachers’ written productions was done from Jean Piaget’s concept of awareness. The data collection was done through the students-teachers’ written records on Moodle platform and organized with the support of softwares NVivo and CHIC. In this way, it was possible to perform two studies, based on the data observations. Through NVivo, surveys and interpretations of the information were done. With CHIC, it was possible to interpret the relations of similarities and implications among meaning, learning and difficulties understood by the students-teachers about the portfolio and the synthesis. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to verify that the students-teachers understand the learning portfolio as a tool of fundamental relevance for writing the reflexive synthesis and that the written production of the learning instruments is seen as a way of substantial interest for the articulation between the theory proposed in the course and the practice in classroom.

Dynamic Constructing Decision Rules from Learning Portfolio to Support Adaptive Instruction

Chen, Yun-pei 14 July 2004 (has links)
With the dynamic development of internet, various protocols and applications had been gradually matured on the network. The network has objective merits such as getting beyond the limits of time and space and change the tradition teaching model. Otherwise, the learning portfolios documented by on-line learning websites help teachers keep track of students¡¦ learning process. With the educational information, teachers would be more able to observe students¡¦ learning in real time and provide students with different decision rules under various time frames for teachers to understand both students¡¦ learning behaviors and process instantaneously. Nevertheless, technology mediated learning (TML) refers to an environment in which the learner interacts with learning materials, peers, and/or instructors that are mediated through advanced information technology. Recently, there have been increasing interests in investigating if TML can yield positive learning outcome. However, the rapid growth of information technology concerning analyzing the learning track is of various analytic approaches and thus is really complicated. The lack of one integrative analysis of all the possible use of the diverse analyzing frameworks prevents teachers from picking one most appropriate analyzing framework for their own teaching. Accordingly, this research compares and contrasts the most prevailing data analyzing technique¡Ðdata mining and the traditional statistical analysis approaches with the hope to allocate matching analyzing tools for various kinds of courses as well as to provide teachers with immediate decision rules as bases for predicting students¡¦ possible learning behaviors.

Design And Implementation of a Web-Based Portfolio Supporting System

Chen, De-Li 25 June 2002 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to analyze the functional requirement of web-based portfolio supporting system and to investigate the relationship between learning portfolio and personal knowledge management. First, this study surveys the literature to explore the architecture of web-based portfolio supporting system. Then, a prototyping system that adopts the system architecture is implemented and finally this study evaluates the system by using the questionnaire and observing learners¡¦ operating conditions. A total of 69 subjects are from Kaohsiung Hospitality College. The main findings show that web-based portfolio supporting system meets learners¡¦ need mostly and has a positive effect on learners¡¦ learning process. Most learners are not familiar with portfolio assessment, and therefore teachers must make learners to understand what is portfolio assessment. A few learners organize and manage their personal learning portfolio according to their learning need. Furthermore, most learners are not used to sharing their files and knowledge. However, teachers can encourage learners to interact by promoting their sharing will. Finally, based on the research findings, this study proposes following suggestions for the follow-up research. 1. Portfolio assessment must be put into practice as soon as possible. 2. Improving teachers¡¦ participation to promote learners¡¦ will of interaction and sharing. 3. Adding teaching assistants to reduce learners¡¦ loading to establish learning portfolio.

Lißner, Andrea 29 January 2013 (has links)

Paquet, Maxime 09 1900 (has links)
Teaching oral communication implies that teachers are aware of different parameters so that students can acquire solid and durable learning skills. In this regard, we can identify amongst other things, the taking into account of the distinctions between oral and written production and the stress induced by having to deliver speeches or by the volatile aspect of this form of communication. Although different methods and tools have been suggested and validated in order to allow students to adequately develop this competency, there remain associated challenges such as the metacognitive aspect of learning. Certainly, the didactic models offer in their structure a place for reflexive activities but how can we adequately accompany students so that these activities allow them to grasp their full potential? Therefore, this study proposes to explore the use of a tool that fosters precise implementation of reflexive activities, the digital learning portfolio, and to describe the contributions regarding the development of the oral production competency of Grade 9 students in the French Language of Instruction class. To attain this general research objective, we relied on a theoretical framework primarily presenting general elements regarding oral teaching and learning and secondly, the use of learning portfolios in high school. Three complementary elements complete this theoretical framework: self-evaluation, emotional commitment and self-regulated learning. To meet the specific research objectives arising from these concepts, a qualifying and interpretative method, exploratory in nature, has been developed that includes 77 Grade 9 students. Since this is a thesis of articles, every specific research objective is a subject of an article. In the first article, we have described the contribution of the digital learning portfolio on self-evaluation of high school students in the competency of oral production. Our results show that reflexive tools associated to the portfolio, especially thanks to video, allow for a better identification of strengths and weaknesses in oral production. In the second article, we have described the contribution of this tool on the emotional commitment of students. In light of obtained results, the learning portfolio offers an added value in terms of stress reduction associated with the development of oral production work. In the last article, we have expanded our description of contributions of tools in the use of strategies to self-regulate in the context of learning through oral production. The analyzed data illustrates that certain self-regulating processes, such as planning strategies and self-recording, benefit from the steps associated in the development of a digital learning portfolio. In conclusion, a synthesis and analysis of all the results regarding the literature and recommendations are proposed in order to offer courses of action and training for the professionals in a school environment, particularly French high school teachers.

Proximal Splitting Methods in Nonsmooth Convex Optimization

Hendrich, Christopher 17 July 2014 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with the development of novel numerical methods for solving nondifferentiable convex optimization problems in real Hilbert spaces and with the investigation of their asymptotic behavior. To this end, we are also making use of monotone operator theory as some of the provided algorithms are originally designed to solve monotone inclusion problems. After introducing basic notations and preliminary results in convex analysis, we derive two numerical methods based on different smoothing strategies for solving nondifferentiable convex optimization problems. The first approach, known as the double smoothing technique, solves the optimization problem with some given a priori accuracy by applying two regularizations to its conjugate dual problem. A special fast gradient method then solves the regularized dual problem such that an approximate primal solution can be reconstructed from it. The second approach affects the primal optimization problem directly by applying a single regularization to it and is capable of using variable smoothing parameters which lead to a more accurate approximation of the original problem as the iteration counter increases. We then derive and investigate different primal-dual methods in real Hilbert spaces. In general, one considerable advantage of primal-dual algorithms is that they are providing a complete splitting philosophy in that the resolvents, which arise in the iterative process, are only taken separately from each maximally monotone operator occurring in the problem description. We firstly analyze the forward-backward-forward algorithm of Combettes and Pesquet in terms of its convergence rate for the objective of a nondifferentiable convex optimization problem. Additionally, we propose accelerations of this method under the additional assumption that certain monotone operators occurring in the problem formulation are strongly monotone. Subsequently, we derive two Douglas–Rachford type primal-dual methods for solving monotone inclusion problems involving finite sums of linearly composed parallel sum type monotone operators. To prove their asymptotic convergence, we use a common product Hilbert space strategy by reformulating the corresponding inclusion problem reasonably such that the Douglas–Rachford algorithm can be applied to it. Finally, we propose two primal-dual algorithms relying on forward-backward and forward-backward-forward approaches for solving monotone inclusion problems involving parallel sums of linearly composed monotone operators. The last part of this thesis deals with different numerical experiments where we intend to compare our methods against algorithms from the literature. The problems which arise in this part are manifold and they reflect the importance of this field of research as convex optimization problems appear in lots of applications of interest.
