The role of the principal in managing change at secondary school level in the Limpopo ProvinceTshubwana, T. S. 30 June 2007 (has links)
The study was conducted in the secondary schools of Vhembe district. Five secondary schools were selected for study.
Data were collected by interviews. Interview involved asking questions, listening and recording answers and then following up with additional relevant questions.
The findings revealed that lack of training regarding change influences people to resist change. Therefore, before the initiation of any change, the Department of Education should train all stakeholders involved in the day-to-day implementation of change. This will minimize resistance during the implementation stage.
The study recommends that educators and HoD's should work hand in hand to support their principals in order to ensure the smooth running and management of change in their schools. / Educational Studies / M. Ed. (Education Management)

The purpose of this study was to explore the role of family members in support of their relatives who are mentally ill and to develop guidelines for the support of mentally ill relatives by their families in a rural community. The research design was qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual. The research population consisted of families of mentally ill relatives collecting their monthly medications at the Jane Furse Gateway Clinic. Purposive sampling was used to draw the sample. Data was collected by individual in-depth semi-structured interviews that were tape-recorded. The study revealed that families provide physical, psychosocial, financial and developmental support to their relatives. The purpose of this study was to develop an empowerment model for families of mentally handicapped children in Moletši district in Limpopo Province. To achieve this purpose, the study consisted of four steps, namely exploring the meaning of empowerment in the context of families with mentally handicapped children; developing and describing a model for empowerment of such families; formulating guidelines for the implementation of the model, and evaluating the implementation of the model. A qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual theory-generative design was used.
The population of the study was all families who had mentally handicapped children in Moletši district of the Polokwane and Aganang municipalities. Semi-structured interviews, assessment guides and case studies were conducted with the families to evaluate the effectiveness of the model and whether the families reached self-efficacy in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of their mentally handicapped children.
Non-probability, purposive sampling was used in order to obtain relevant information from the correct participants. Concepts were identified and analysed, which led to the development of the model for empowerment of families with mentally handicapped children. The model was applied in practice, where the families’ problems were identified and planned for, and the plans were put into action by means of case studies, and monitoring and evaluation was done through observation, interviews, discussion and meetings.The results revealed that the families proved to be independent and reached self-efficacy in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of their mentally handicapped children. The model is a unique contribution to nursing education, research, administration and practice and sets guidelines for a new field in the practice of psychiatric nursing. / Health Studies / D. The implementation of the 'no-fee' school policy in selected primary schools in LimpopoSetoaba, Mapitsi Phineas 01 1900 (has links)
South Africa began with the ‘no-fee’ school policy (NFSP) implementation on 01 January 2007. The policy abolished mandatory school fees in public ordinary schools to make basic education available to poor learners in the country.
However, critics argued that the NFSP implementation made poor schools poorer and needed researched. This prompted an exploration on “No-fee schools’ inability to address the needs of the poor in Limpopo”
The researcher randomly sampled ten ‘no-fee’ primary schools for the study. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation. Interviewees were principals, treasurers and chairpersons of school governing bodies from the schools studied. The collected data were analysed through inductive techniques. The study discovered that the no-fee schools were unable to address the needs of the poor in Limpopo.
The study concluded with recommendations for empowering no-fee schools on addressing the needs of the poor in Limpopo and for topics on future research. / Thesis (M. Ed. (Educational Management))

An explorationary study of the types of psychosocial services provided to educators living with HIV at selected primary schools in Limpopo ProvinceThindisa, Johanna Ntlwaneng 09 1900 (has links)
Educators play an essential role within the education system as role models. Many
educators, in addition to being affected by learners living with HIV and AIDS, are
themselves living with HIV and struggle to cope. SMTs have to play a role in the
provision of psychosocial services. The purpose of this study was to explore the types
of psychosocial services provided to ELWHIV by their SMTs in order to gain insight and
understanding and to make suggestions on how psychosocial services can be
improved. A qualitative study was undertaken in 2008. Fifteen interviews were
conducted with ELWHIV and members of SMTs at four primary schools in Bela-Bela,
Limpopo Province. The findings reveal that SMTs are failing to implement government
policies and are not providing adequate support for ELWHIV. None of the participating
schools had a functional AIDS policy. Support structures were found to be inadequate
and ineffective. Disclosure was identified as one of the major obstacles to the provision

Socio-economic analysis of land refrom projects at Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality in the Limpopo Province of South Africa: comparing rhe degree of contribution to food securityMafora, Maboa Harry 28 May 2014 (has links)
The study focused primarily on the socio-economic benefit(s) of land reform beneficiaries with regard to food security. The study further investigated the socio-economic impact of selected land reform projects in the Limpopo Province which is also very critical for many parts of South Africa. Apart from the traditional output based evaluation of land reform projects, the study managed to identify key significant variables that could be the focus in reforming land reform projects in the future. The study also highlights variables that could contribute positively or negatively to the attainment of socio-economic deliverables of the objectives of land reform. The conclusive data for the study was obtained from 170 beneficiaries of the land reform programme. Beneficiaries have benefited from Land Redistribution and Agricultural Development (LRAD) and Settlement Land Acquisition Grant (SLAG) sub-programmes of land reform in the area of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality within the Greater Sekhukhune District Local Municipality.
The Multinomial Logic Model (MLM) was regarded as the best model for data analysis and was used to analyse the degree of contribution of socio-economic factors to food security among beneficiaries of LRAD and SLAG. Three categories were selected to determine the level of beneficiaries satisfaction with food security, namely; 1) None; 2) Moderate and 3) High. Dependent variables selected were 1) Number of beneficiaries, 2) Gender, 3) Farm size/ha, 4) Enterprise, 5) Land reform sub programme, 6) Proximity to the project, 7) Decision, 8) Knowledge, 9) Skills, 10) Training, 11) participation in Development organisation, 12) Sustaining production, and 13) Sustaining financial obligation.
The study indicated that the participation of beneficiaries in decision making could contribute positively to the attainment of food security. A positive relationship with food security was determined and confirmed the study hypothesis. Knowledge was also found to have a significant relationship with the attainment of household food security. Knowledge was again found linked to training of beneficiaries which in general was inadequate. The study further revealed that almost all beneficiaries were failing to maintain production and financial obligations. Contrary to the hypothesis, enterprise was not found to be significant to the attainment of beneficiaries’ household food security.

The study concluded that land reform is still relevant to food security in the area. The aim of this study is to analyse and describe the role of sub-national governments (SNG’s) in foreign policy and how the conduct of diplomacy has developed in the South African context, and to assess why and how provinces engage in this phenomenon. The theoretical approach to this study is embedded in neo-functionalism. In order to illustrate this, the South African province, the Limpopo Province is used as an illustrative case study. In particular, the study will analyse the role of the International Relations Unit (IRU) within the Office of the Premier (OtP) in the Limpopo Province as a case study. Limpopo is the main focus of this study because it, inter alia, borders on three sovereign states (Botswana, Mozambique and Zimbabwe) which place the province in a good position to engage in international relations, mutual intentions and friendly relations with its neighbouring and other distant countries. The results of this study is that provinces have become important foreign policy and international relations actors in the area of low politics; however the national government remains as the main actor in the international relations and foreign policy making process. The results also indicate that Limpopo is being proactive in facilitating and accelerating the realisation of the foreign policy objectives since provinces engage with international activities that run in parallel with the objectives and principles of the national foreign policy. The study contributes to the literature on SNG’s diplomacy in South Africa. Intrapartum clinical guideline for monitoring and managing a woman during labourLumadi, Thanyani Gladys 09 October 2014 (has links)
This research study explored and described a partogram as a clinical practice guideline for monitoring and managing women during labour at Vhembe District of Limpopo province.
A qualitative, explorative, descriptive and contextual design was used in order to achieve the study objectives. Purposive sampling was carried out to select three hospitals in order to obtain comprehensive data from the district. The research study was conducted in three phases.
Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 midwives who were selected conveniently from the three hospitals. Document study was also conducted on 24 partograms that were conveniently selected from the three hospitals on the days that interviews were conducted, using a self-designed checklist.
Tesch’s eight steps of qualitative data analysis were used to analyse the data, and simple, descriptive statistics using frequencies were used to analyse the data obtained from the document study.
Four themes that emerged from the data are: benefits of implementing the partogram, challenges experienced, attitudes of staff and evaluation on how the guideline is being implemented in the wards, including giving feedback. These aspects were indicated as pivotal in the implementation of the guideline in monitoring a woman during labour. The findings on document study revealed gaps in recording, mostly on aspects that needed frequent observations and on aspects in which resources that needed to be used in monitoring were lacking.
The strategies to improve the implementation of a guideline were developed based on the research findings, sent to one of the hospitals for review and comments were included in the discussions. It is recommended that in-service training on the implementation of the partogram be conducted regularly for midwives. Hospital management and supervisors need to provide support, enough staff and equipment in order to enable midwives to use the partogram / Health Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (Health Studies)

the part of other stakeholders like educators, learners, parents. community, business people and
the government. lead to teaching and learning of a very high and acceptable standard. The
purpose of this research project was to investigate how principals of rural primary schools create
and maintain a culture of teaching and learning. The outcomes of this investigation could assist
rural primary school principals in their attempts towards ensuring a positive culture of teaching
and learning. The outcomes could also assist other stakeholders as to how best can they assist
rural primary school principals in making schools centers for a positive culture of teaching and
learning. The methodology of research for this investigation is quantitative. The questionnaire
was used as a tool for empirical data collection. This research project has revealed several
mechanisms that arc utilized by rural primary school principals in creating and maintain a culture
ofteaching and learning. It also emerged from thi s study that in creating and maintaining COLT
in schools, rural primary school principals encounter some problems that need the undivided
