Chang, An-Chi 01 June 2006 (has links)
There are substantially researches talking about departments with various functions inside companies also external connections with different parties outside. No matter researching which perspective, employees are consistently playing a key role. Regarding to a company, there are some people with more or less specific knowledge backgrounds to be unified. In today¡¦s business world, knowledge apparently becomes a surviving tool. It is the reason that ¡§knowledge economics¡¨ was created and develop theories in ¡§knowledge management¡¨ field. As far as managers concerned, employees are a group of people inside the company who should be paid attention to not merely on skin deep level. By means of having further sensitivity to motivation factors of employees, a lot of helpful methods can be found for win-win solutions. If companies expect employees with motivations, the initiative is to figure out how to let employees really make themselves ¡§motivated on jobs¡¨ instead of banking on only money matters. It is no doubt that line managers and HR managers should spend time working on this issue since one of the objectives to be managers is to manage people under authorities. This thesis would be practically valuable for managers on supplement by interview results because line managers, human resource managers and employees have extremely close relationships for organization¡¦s brighter future. Key Words: motivation factor, line manager, human resource manager

A study on differences of interview questions asked between line managers and HR people

Chen, Tzu-wen 17 August 2006 (has links)
Interview is the most frequently-used method of selection in present enterprises. In order to select suitable employees, there will be at least two phases of interviews in which both of line managers and hr specialists are interviewers. There is no existing literature discussing about the differences between their behaviors during interviews. This study is mainly focused on those differences between interview questions asked by line managers and hr specialists in a cooperative interview. Besides, this study also analyses relevant factors which have impacts on effectiveness of interviews and corporation. This study uses dyadic questionnaires to collect empirical data and the author selects both line managers and hr specialists to answer the dyadic questionnaires. To increase validity of data, there is a limitation on the process of sample selection. Only those line managers from manufacture department or business divisions which are the major profit resource in enterprises can answer the questionnaires. 180 dyadic questionnaires were sent, and 114 valid questionnaires were responded. The valid response rate was 63.33%. Using independent-sample T test, one-way ANOVA and two-way ANOVA, the results are shown as below, 1.The effectiveness of interviews is irrelevant to interview training, interview period and interview check list. 2.There is no difference between interview questions asked by line managers and hr specialists. 3.There is no significant influence on interview questions between line managers and hr specialists by interview training, interviewer¡¦s interview experience and method of interview cooperation. 4.The effectiveness of cooperation is not influenced by interview training and interviewers¡¦ interview experiences either.

Att tänka utanför boxen men samtidigt handla innanför ramen : Hur enhetschefer i kommunal äldreomsorg hanterar sjukskrivningar av omsorgspersonal

Jenny, Johansson, Tove, Tangegård January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine how first line managers in municipal elderly care manage sick leave among care workers. The study uses a qualitative method and five interviews were performed with first line manager professionals in municipal elderly care. We have been inspired by critical theory when analyze the result. The theoretical framework is space of action, freedom of action and conflict of interest. The result of the study shows that according to first line managers sick leave among care workers is an extensive problem. The result shows that first line managers themselves are an important tool while managing sick leave. They are all aware of the framework that controls their space of action and the framework consists of laws, rules and organizational conditions. The result shows that first line managers manage sick leave in different ways. How to manage sick leave is up to each and every one of them and it can sometimes be difficult to parry the different expectations they have on themselves and on their mission. First line managers describe lack of support functions as a reason why it can be difficult and they say that they are forced to develop their own strategies to compensate for these. The result also shows that there is a lack of resources, in both time and money to meet the legal obligations that first line managers have by their employer's' responsibility.

Arbetsledarrollen : påverkan av bristande praktisk erfarenhet hos nyexaminerad byggnadsingenjör. / The Supervisor Role : impact of lacking practical experience of the newly qualified civil engineer.

Lund, Sofia, Selle, Felicia January 2016 (has links)
Purpose: The construction industry is facing changes as academic education is becoming more common. Practical competence will be lost as newly graduated civil engineers often lack practical experience. As the industry is characterized by a clear identification and where a common view is that "you ought to have experience from construction work", this change is problematic. This study focuses on the supervisors role, where the aim of the report is to analyze how newly graduated civil engineers handle the lack of practical experience. Method: In order to achieve the objective of the study, the supervisor role has been studied at two large construction companies. To get a deep and fair view of the role, site managers and construction workers, together with supervisors with both practical experience and theoretical background have been studied. The nature of the study is qualitative where empirical data has been collected through interviews, observation, and analysis of internal company documents. Findings: The analysis is that the supervisors’ role is characterized by a certain number of tasks and operations. From these, connections can be made to how management should be handled, and the characteristics required in such operations. The last part includes collective identification within the industry and its pressure on the role. From these aspects the result is summarized. The affect is that newly graduated civil engineers require a more analytical and information seeking mindset when lacking practical experience. Implications: The conclusion of this study is that practical experience is an advantage in the role of supervisor, and that it is important to give the chance for supervisors to gain practical experience. In compensation for the lack of practical experience of newly graduated civil engineers, they instead have an analytical and information- seeking mindset. They also possess basic knowledge of the complete building process. The characteristics that are more important to focus on than experience are: having commitment, clarity in communication, clear structure and sense of initiative. The critical factors for leading the construction production is to disseminate information, take initiative, react to unexpected crises and allocate resources. Limitations: The study focuses on the role of supervisor at two major construction companies. If the study had also included smaller construction companies, a wider and more general conclusion of the role at large, could have been made. The study would be improved if more observations were possible to implement. To also observe the role from different occupational groups, other aspects and a wider analysis would have been possible to conduct. Keywords: Supervisor’s role in construction industry, Mintzberg's leadership roles, first-line manager, practical experience/academic education, collective identity. Nyckelord: Arbetsledarrollen i byggbranschen, Mintzbergs ledarroller, första linjens chef, praktisk erfarenhet/akademisk utbildning, kollektiv identitet.

Servant Leadership and Affective Commitment to Change in Manufacturing Organizations

Schulkers, Jeffrey 01 January 2017 (has links)
Organizational change initiatives in the United States frequently fail with estimated failure rates as high as 90%. Change failure rates resulting from underused and poorly trained front-line managers (FLMs) remained high, with no signs of improvement in the past 2 decades. The purpose of the correlational study, grounded in servant leadership theory, was to examine the relationship between employee perceptions of their FLM's servant leadership dimensions and employee affective commitment to change. A purposive, nonprobability sample of 107 employees of a U.S. manufacturing organization that had recently undergone organizational change completed a questionnaire for the study. Results of the multiple linear regression analysis were not significant, F(7, 107) = .714, p = .660, R2 = 0.045. Though results were not statistically significant, the beta weights for creating value for the community (β = .165) and behaving ethically (β = .168) indicated that creating value for the community and behaving ethically were potentially the most important variables in accounting for variance in the model. The beta weights for emotional healing (β = -.048) and conceptual skills (β = -.047) indicated that emotional healing and conceptual skills were potentially the least important variables in accounting for variance in the model. The findings may be of value to manufacturing leaders developing initiatives to improve change initiative success rates. Support for servant leadership during periods of organizational change has positive social change implications for employees. The practice of servant leadership reduces employee uncertainty and anxiety incurred during periods of change by resolving uncertainties and sustaining employee motivation for supporting organizational change.

Human Resource Management in Project-Based Organisations : Challenges and Changes

Bredin, Karin January 2006 (has links)
<p>This thesis is about human resource management (HRM) in project-based organisations. Firms have over the last decades tended to rely increasingly on project-based structures. This process of projectification implies a changed work situation for individuals in modern organisations. Researchers from the project field of research as well as from the HRM field of research have pointed to possible implications that projectification might have for HRM. This thesis explores this area through a combination of multiple, comparative, and single case studies of project-based organisations. The studies aim at identifying and analysing the changes and challenges for HRM in this particular context.</p><p>The studies are presented in four separate papers. The findings suggest a number of important and empirically nested challenges related to Competence, Trust, Change, and Individuals. Moreover, the changing roles of HR departments and line managers in the overall HR organisation are discussed and analysed. The thesis proposes alternative roles for line managers, depending on the organisational context, and it also proposes two ’ideal types’ of HR-departmental structures.</p>

Arbetsuppgifter och ledarskap hos en första linjens chef i kommunal äldremsorg : a single case study

Hedman, Maria January 2010 (has links)
