An Exploration of the Technology-Based Learning Environment in Middle Grades English/Language Arts Instruction and Its Impact on Learner Autonomy

Welch, Mary Ellen 11 June 2015 (has links)

As student learners become exposed to more technology, they drive change in their learning environments. The United States Department of Education and Georgia Department of Education responded with national and state technology plans to better support the Digital Natives of this century. Local school districts and schools equipped educators in this study through portable and mobile tablet/laptop carts, student response devices, data/video projectors, and/or interactive TVs/white boards. In this multisited, multiple case study, three middle grades English/Language Arts educators honored connections between content, pedagogy, and technology. Through narrative vignettes, within-case and cross-case analysis of data, and interpretation and implications of findings, the researcher described how technology-based learning impacts the learning environment of student learners and their educators in middle grades English/Language Arts instruction and how those experiences impact learner autonomy. The researcher desired the findings to be of value to educators and others whose decisions regarding professional development, instructional practices, and instructional resources influence the learning experiences for educators and their student learners.

A case study on the relationship between oral language and digital writing in an 8th grade classroom

Johnson, Melissa Leigh 16 January 2015 (has links)

This yearlong study in an 8th grade classroom explores a blogging literacy event that illustrates how reading, digital writing and oracy work together to better support student learning, reasoning and dialogue. While many studies separately confirm the role of talk and writing in promoting learning, few studies address how writing informs talk practices, and no known studies examine how purposeful, individual blogging about literature promotes productive classroom dialogue.

Students within this eighth grade classroom are expected to write and participate in a blog with their classmates about literature they select and read independently. Students then discuss the literature and their blogs in small group conversations with their classroom teacher, leading to rich, meaningful discussions. Focal data consists of student blogs, video recorded small group conversations, audio recorded student and teacher interviews, written student reflections, observation field notes and photographs of student artifacts.

This study explicates the potential of writing acting as a springboard to further student reasoning through conversation. It documents the flexibility of teacher talk to take student contributions and align them in meaningful ways with educational language and purposes. Even within the confines of regimented curriculum agendas, the study illustrates how teachers can play a variety of roles in which they employ a repertoire of skills and strategies, making decisions in the moment to build on what students bring to the classroom and engender a classroom environment of risk-taking, meaning-making and learning.

This study on the literature teaching in the medium level of education made possible to verify that the students present difficulties in the learning of the literature due to an estrangement among the forms of approach of the literary text in classroom and what it is waited of them, while candidates to a vacancy in the university through the evaluation that is done by the selective examinations. Leitura de poesia no 9º ano do ensino fundamental : um caminho rumo ao letramento lírico

Almeida, Adilson Oliveira 31 August 2018 (has links)
Poetry and literature as a whole have been marginalized and discredited in Portuguese language classes in elementary school. Reading poetry and lyrical literacy are essential for students at this level of basic education to apply and make good use of their knowledge in various social contexts. In addition, working with the poem genre and / or other texts that retake poetic language is very enriching for the student, since with these textual genres in the classroom and at school the student is allowed to reach a substantial level of humanization, awareness and reflection on the culture and legacy of a people, and their own history in the world. The main objective of this initiative was to equip students for lyric literacy by reading poems and poetic language texts. The pedagogical intervention that gave rise to this academic report was held in Class A of the 9th year of elementary school, at the José de Alencar Cardoso State School, located in Aracaju / SE. For this purpose, questionnaires were applied before and during the activities with the corpus, whose purpose was to seek to know what the students knew or did not know and / or what they learned about poetry and poetry. The didactic activities were given dynamically, with silent, oral, expressive, analytical and interpretive readings. The corpus used in this research consisted of two chronicles and three poems. As a theoretical contribution, we are based on Rildo Cosson (2014); Neusa Sorrenti (2013), Octavio Paz (2012); Tzvetan Todorov (2009); Antonie Compagnon (2010 and 2012); Egon Rangel (2003); Antonio Candido (1987); Regina Zilberman (2009), Hélder Pinheiro (2007); Fernando Paixão (1983); Massaud Moisés (2007); Emil Staiger (1977), among other authors. Recepce antiky v české literatuře v letech 1880-1910 / Dazzled by the Hellenic Sun: Reception of the Classical Antiquality in the Czech Literature Between 1880 and 1910

Čadková, Daniela January 2016 (has links)
The theme of the dissertation is the reception of the Classical Antiquity in the Czech Literature between 1880 and 1910. The aim was to analyse the ways in which Czech culture related to the Classical Antiquity in the period of increased concern with Classical topics, motifs and forms. The first, largest part, methodologically inspired by the demythicizing perspective of Vladimír Macura and Jiří Rak, concerns with stereotypical views of the Classical Antiquity particularly prominent in the contemporary discourse: the antithetical image of noble Greece and corrupted Rome, the topos of bright Hellenic Sun and clear Sky, the ideology behind the common opinion that Ancient sculptures were all white (and the reactions to the discovery that they were, in fact, polychrome), the topos of a Greek athletic body and its employment in the policy of the Czech sports movement 'Sokol' (Falcon), and last but not least the topos of a man unspoilt by civilization and living in accordance with the Nature. Separate chapters are also devoted to two then important intermediaries of reception, grammar schools and translation. In the second part, attention is drawn to the representation of the Classical Antiquity in dramatic plays by Jaroslav Vrchlický, especially the dramatic trilogy Hippodamie, and their reception in...
