The degree project has been carried out in cooperation with Kongsberg Power Products Systems AB in Ljungsarp. The aim was to develop a new type of upper telescopic function to the Kongsberg modular system for adjustable steering columns. The starting point of the project was to create a more ergonomic driver's environment, as Kongsberg’s customers and the market for slow vehicles are increasingly demanding. The requirements placed on the project consisted in the main part of the forces that construction would meet, and the axial extension of the steering column. To structure the work a product development methodology from the book The Mechanical Design Process by David G. Ullman has been used. The project has resulted in a concept that solves Kongsberg's demands for improved driver ergonomics.

CONCEPT FOR A PORTABLE ASSISTIVE LIFTING SEAT

CALVIN LINARES, PABLO January 2019 (has links)
This project consists of the design of a concept for a portable assistive seat in collaboration with IKEA. The aim of the project is to create a solution that fits within the Omtänksam family of products and shares the company’s values of what is so-called Democratic Design: Form - Quality - Low Price - Function – Sustainability The Omtänksam Family is focused on products that can help the elderly to have a more comfortable life while blending with the home environment. A portable assistive Lifting Seat is a real need for many people that require some extra help when standing up or sitting down. The main goal of this project is to design a cheap, safe, simple and light product that can assist people for reducing the effort that is required from them. The product must be comfortable, easy to transport and friendly to interact with. Considering a mass manufacturing perspective is very important to meet the previously formulated requirements. The force that the assistive seat releases must keep performing efficiently during the product service life. A locking system must be provided for avoiding the lifting force to act when the user is sitting, assisting only when it is demanded. This Thesis describes the process of designing a concept for a Portable AssistiveLifting Seat involving different areas such as ergonomics, semantics, manufacturing, mechanical engineering and materials science. The design approach in this case is driven by the Democratic Design Principles combining the human-centered design with a market perspective. The result takes advantage of form and material for avoiding the need for any extra lifting mechanism. This solution is way simpler than any other one existing in the market and it integrates the solution for many different problems in one single piece. This simplification of the problem allows reducing the production cost and helps to meet the intended requirements creating an innovative product for the market.

Redesigning a Locking System for a Rail Road Dumper

Björnström, Viktor January 2018 (has links)
This report describes a master thesis in Industrial Design Engineering performed at Kiruna Wagon towards Luleå University of Technology in the spring of 2018. The task of the project is to develop a new locking mechanism to the doors of one of Kiruna Wagons planned product releases, the Side Dumper. To find the ideal solution, an iterative and prototype focused design process is used, which is split up into four main phases. Initially, an immersion into the context of the project is performed, followed by a literature study upon which the theoretical fundament of the project is set. A design specification is stated, which functions as support for design and evaluation during the whole project.   In the ideate phase, existing forces of the unloading station was used as a base for ideation. A large bank of ideas was created, which continuously was diverged and converged by many iteration cycles of designing, evaluation and learning. When five concepts had been developed, their functions needed to be verified in the develop phase, where several challenges arose. These were coped with, mainly through calculations, prototyping and by resetting concepts into solution principles. At last, in the deliver phase two remaining solutions, solution B and solution C, were verified through calculations, CAD-modeling and by a scale-wise functional prototype in steel. The prototype was tested, evaluated and finally delivered to Kiruna Wagon. The report ends with discussion and conclusions about method, process and results, and describes necessary further work for an implementation of the solution.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT OF WORK CHAIRS AND OFFICE CHAIR

MUKUNDAN KUMAR, ABHIJITH, THOMAS, SAM January 2020 (has links)
Work chair is considered as an important element for the users to improve comfort in work environment. An ergonomic chair design and engineering is therefore considered very important for its usability and comfort view of point for the users. The aim of the thesis is to improve the mobility and ergonomics of the existing chair in all aspects. Ergonomically designed chairs are important for long time seated workers to increase their productivity and also to reduce low back injuries which arise due to the poor design chairs in ergonomic aspects. In addition, ergonomically designed chairs help to increase the seating comfortability of the chair users. QFD and waterfall model was followed for the work execution. In this paper, we discuss a design of an ergonomically efficient chair with simple adjustments which gives more comfortability. This will give us a better likelihood to stay in a neutral position. The Ergonomics of the chair is improved in various steps. This thesis focuses on many ideas in which some of them are implemented and evaluated.
