Stable isotope analysis of human remains from the Early Contact Period site of La Capilla del Niño Serranito at La Capilla de Santa María Magdalena de Eten

Brown, Leslie E 05 May 2012 (has links)
Oxygen and carbon stable isotope analyses of bone and tooth enamel carbonate were conducted on a subset of the burial population (n = 17) of the La Capilla de El Niño Serranito of the La Capilla Santa María Magdalena de Eten site in the Lambayeque Valley of Peru. The individuals sampled display oxygen stable isotope (δ18Odw(V-SMOW) ) values consistent with higher altitude δ 18Odw(V-SMOW) levels. Carbon stable isotope (δ13C(VPDB)) values for the individuals sampled are consistent with C4 and potentially marine-based food sources. The results of the stable isotope analyses, when combined with elements from the site-specific archaeological and bioarchaeological data, provide a more comprehensive view of the lives and identities of the individuals examined.

Magdalena Rudenschölds medverkan i Armfeltskonspirationen 1792-1794 / The involvement of Magdalena Rudenschöld in the Armfelt conspiracy – the years of 1792-1794

Berntsson, Linnéa January 2011 (has links)
Magdalena Rudenschöld (born 1766, died 1823) was a woman in Swedish history, who lived a turbulent life. As a young woman she was employed at the Swedish court and got to know the king of that time, Gustaf III, and she became the mistress of one of his closest deputies, Gustaf Mauritz Armfelt. After the killing of Gustaf III, a temporary government was formed. This was a regency that was put there on behalf of Prince Gustaf Adolf, since he was not yet of age to run the country. The commission to conduct this temporary government was given to Duke Carl, who was the dead king’s brother. King Gustavus III’s former employees and Officers were after the king’s death, opposed by the temporary government, and they were moved to other assignations. Among these former employees and Officers a discontent arose and a few of them, among others Rudenschöld and her friend Armfelt, started to discuss and plan for a change in the governance of Sweden. The planning was mostly done through correspondence. Several of those who took part in this correspondence, was later sentenced for trying to overthrow the Swedish government. One of the sentenced people was Magdalena Rudenschöld. The purpose of this treatise, has been to examine the role and actions of Magdalena Rudenschöld in the Armfelt conspiracy and also to compare the court records to the sentence she received. Rudenschöld was convicted of treason against the king and kingdom. The results show that Rudenschöld’s conviction for being part of treason against king and kingdom was correct, and that she had made no attempt to stop the conspiracy plans. On her part she had mediated letters between people and she had offered to help, for instance by travelling to Russia to speak for their cause. Rudenschöld’s penalty was hard. She was imprisoned for about two years, after having been publicly pilloried. As she was released from prison, Duke Carl provided her a property on the Swedish island Gotland, and she was not permitted to leave it for still some time. The fact that two members of the temporary government was part of the court that sentenced her, probably contributed to the harsh punishment. However, it has to be born in mind that this was how the judicature was organised at the time being. The treatment of Rudenschöld upset the public at the time of the trials - a lady-in-waiting who were pilloried and ended up in prison was very unusual. The fact that the affair was given characteristics of romanticism as Rudenschöld’s intimacy with the married man Armfelt was made public, and that the affair is even more complicated since the conductor of the temporary government - Duke Carl - previously had been in love with Rudenschöld, makes this story linger for posterity.

Paleogene sedimentation patterns and basin evolution during Andean orogenesis, Middle Magdalena Valley basin, Colombia

Moreno, Christopher John 23 December 2010 (has links)
The Central Cordillera and Eastern Cordillera of the northern Andes form the western and eastern flanks of the north-trending Middle Magdalena Valley basin. Previous estimates for the timing of initial exhumation of the two cordilleras range from ~100 to ~10 Ma. Accurately constraining the spatial and temporal distribution of deformation in Colombia has implications for the shortening history of the Andean convergent margin and the prediction of rapid lateral facies changes in sedimentary basins in close proximity to sediment sources. This study applies sandstone petrographic point counts, field sedimentological analyses of basin fill, and paleocurrent measurements of trough cross-stratification, clast imbrication, and flute casts to provide new insights into the tectonic history of the flanks of the Middle Magdalena Valley basin. Between the lower and upper Paleocene strata of the Lisama Formation, paleocurrent orientations show a shift from northward to eastward transport. This change in sediment dispersal coincides with a shift from a cratonic (Amazonian) to orogenic (Andean) sediment source, as recorded by published U-Pb detrital zircon geochronological results (Nie et al. 2010), suggesting initial uplift of the Central Cordillera by mid-Paleocene time. Later in the basin’s history, establishment of an alluvial-plain system with meandering-channel deposits is recorded in lower–middle Eocene strata of the lower La Paz Formation. Consistent eastward paleocurrents characterize mid-Paleocene through uppermost Eocene strata, indicating a continuous influence of western sediment source areas. However, within the upper middle Eocene succession (~40 Ma), at the boundary between the lower and upper La Paz Formation, sandstone compositions show a dramatic decrease in lithic content. This compositional change is accompanied by a facies shift to amalgamated fluvial channels, reflecting changes in both the composition and proximity of the western sediment source. We attribute these changes to the growing influence of the exhumed La Cira/Infantas paleohighs off the western flank of the present-day Nuevo Mundo syncline. In the uppermost Eocene strata of the Esmeraldas Formation, paleocurrents show a switch to dominantly westward transport that persisted through the Neogene. In addition, deposits show a contemporaneous decrease in the amount of coarse-grained channel deposits. These changes are interpreted to reflect the onset of exhumation in the Eastern Cordillera. The lack of a significant change in sandstone compositions at this boundary suggests a compositional similarity between strata uplifted by the Lisama structure and the Eastern Cordillera. These data support and further refine previous thermochronologic and provenance studies which suggest that uplift-induced exhumation of the Central Cordillera and Eastern Cordillera commenced by mid-Paleocene and late Eocene–early Miocene time, respectively. / text

Mercado + vivienda multifamiliar en Magdalena del Mar

Salaverry Marín, Isaac 01 February 2018 (has links)
The thesis “Market + Multifamily housing of Magdalena del Mar” is projected where the current market is located, it also takes the complete block of 100x100 meters (10 000 square meters), flanked by Parque Túpac Amaru and Calle Bolognesi, Leoncio Prado, Castilla and the pedestrian and commercial Valencia boulevard in the district of Magdalena del Mar, Lima, Peru. The mixed use proposal consists of two recognizable volumes: the first one facing Parque Túpac Amaru that houses in its base (1) 15 stores, the 2 stores at the ends have a second floor and (2) the entrance halls to each of the 4 housing towers that occupy the third to the eighth floor, since the second floor houses the food court of the market, which is the function of the second recognizable volume that meddles into the first in order to get the view towards Parque Túpac Amaru. The second recognizable volume is the market itself, which is located towards Valencia boulevard, where the shopping stalls are located and are differentiated by levels depending on their commercial activities. It is on the roof of the market where 4 soccer fields are found (futsal) with a sinuous coverage that crowns only this volume and works as protection against the sun, as well as visual and sound isolation for the housing. This level is only accessible from the corners of the Valencia boulevard with Calle Leoncio Prado and Calle Castilla. / Tesis

Rojas Líbano, Macarena January 2006 (has links)

The discipline field of International Relations subjectify and objectivify us in the short term of graduation or postgraduation. The concepts of subjectivation and objectification, as well as resistance to discourses and practices, were used by me through the work of Michel Foucault, whose books provided me with a basis for writing this thesis. In this writing of mine, I tried to expose my materialization as an internationalist subject, from a genealogy of the course, as well as my resistance to this materialization from studies of political philosophy and other debates provided by the subjects with whom I lived, which challenged me constantly to rethink the ontology and epistemology used by our teachers and colleagues. Starting from this beginning, my methodology is based on a study of Frida Kahlo's resistance and reproduction of the discourses and practices of her time during her life, using her writings and works. These last ones I considered like the his knowledge-powers, which are imbued in his experience. Finally, my main argument is that Frida challenged the norms of the society in which she lived, but at the same time reproduced many of the relations of power by which she was pervaded.

The research on personal records is full of meanings but becomes even richer when presented with descriptions of the author's pains. Whether it presents itself as physical or emotional, pain carries a feature of unutterability within and – as reminded by the American researcher of pain Elaine Scarry (1987) – of language destruction as well. From a genealogical study of the diary. From a genealogical study of the diary and the social and cultural structures from which it emerged, this work aims to find the German romantic term Erlebnis [experience] within the kernel of this form of expression. It also analyzes writing, which is seen as a lonely activity that fulfills itself when meeting the other - as Vilém Flusser (2010) said. The description of pain comes from the medical literature that tried to comprehend and express it, though incipiently. It is perceived that pain lies in a compound of presence and absence translated by insufficient words and images, which intend to be as close as possible to the original and singular feeling related to that unrepeatable experience. Finally, those expressions are found and taken from two diaries, namely, the one written by the French literary critic Roland Barthes (1915-1980), which depicts the loss of his mother, and the one possessed by the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907-1945), which portrays a chronicle pain that lasted a lifetime. In them were found images that translate the presence-absence of pain, prove the limited power of language and further show that the diary is an excellent setting for the blazes of painful experiences.
