Bound to Gendered Norms? : A critical discourse analysis of the portrayal of former Swedish Prime Ministers in news media

Ekström, Carolina January 2022 (has links)
Sweden is considered prominent in gender equality issues. Despite that, Sweden was the last of the Nordic countries to have a female prime minister, and previous studies demonstrate that gender stereotypes remain. The aim of this thesis is to critically analyze how the former Prime Ministers – Magdalena Andersson, Stefan Löfven and Fredrik Reinfeldt – have been portrayed in Swedish newspapers from a gendered perspective. For the aim of the thesis were a gendered theoretical framework developed. A critical discourse analysis was conducted through a methodological framework developed based on Fairclough's three-dimensional model. The results demonstrate how all three of the former Prime Ministers are related to male norms in the portrayal of them in the newspaper articles. However, it differs between the former Prime Ministers in how the male attributes are ascribed to them and if the attributes are considered positive or negative. Through these findings, it is concluded that the portrayal of Andersson does not follow the pattern shown by previous research of negatively portraying the politician from a stereotypical female perspective.

Rojas Aliaga, Daniel Franco, Bartra Diaz, Valeria Valentina, Cruz Eguizabal, Maryori Liset, Diaz Huaman, Sindy Danifza, Romo Roman, Maria Alejandra 27 November 2020 (has links)
Currently, Lima (like the rest of the country) is in the context of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, which requires accelerating proposals for sustainable mobility by the government, since according to available scientific information, public transport are sources of contagion. This has meant a greater impulse to promote public policies that promote the use of bicycles as an alternative to non-motorized transport among citizens. However, according to the communication diagnosis carried out, there is a perception of insecurity of citizens with the need to travel about using the bicycle as a safe means of transport, due to the absence of inclusive cycle infrastructure, lack of easy technical information reach and the violent urban road ecosystem respect to non-motorized vehicles. In view of this, this Research Work aims to promote in the Magdalena del Mar’s neighbors the use of bicycles as a safe transport alternative, providing technical information that facilitates decision-making, promoting respect for the rights of the cyclist and accompanying them with digital consultation supports in their change process, taking into account the differentiated safety implications of its use for women and men. Thus, "BICIble" is a Communication for Development Research Project whose fields of action are the virtual platforms of Facebook and Instagram, with the Magdalena del Mar district as the niche of execution. With the collaboration of the citizen collective "Magdalena Creativa", "BICIble" managed to position itself as a concerned and properly trained young project for the promotion of the use of bicycles as an attractive alternative for sustainable transport and the management of a multilevel digital community that brings together civil society, business and government. In addition, to opening virtual spaces for dialogue and learning within the district with notable sustainability. Finally, due to its virtual nature, although its initial focus is district, the vision of the Research Work is the expansion at the metropolitan level of the proposal due to the scope and access provided by social networks, which would allow connecting with various actors in different locations.

Echaíz Dellepiane, Claudia, Gonzáles Astudillo, Claudia, Padilla Bahamonde, Itala 01 January 2014 (has links)
Tesis

Hydrodynamic analysis of inland vessel self-propulsion for cargo transport for navigability in the Magdalena River.

Acosta Lopera, Oscar David Acosta 27 May 2019 (has links)
The subject of this study is the determination of the resistance of an inland vessel engaged in cargo transport in the lower course of the Magdalena River, considering that the hydrodynamic effects in shallow water navigation are very different compared to the effects in deep water navigation. The hydrodynamic analysis is realized numerically using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The Reynolds-Averaging Navier-Stokes equation (RANS) solver is applied to simulate viscous and pressure effects around a tank and a hull in confined tank considering the wall bottom and side effects in shallow water navigation. For turbulence effects, realizable k-? model is used. The motion of the vessel causes elevations of the free surface, in which, is captured using the Volume of Fluid method (VOF). For discretization of flow domain, the Finite Volume Method (FVM) is applied. The motion of the fluids is updated for each time step that allows the calculation of the resistance acting on the hull. The numerical simulation results are compared with experimental data obtained by the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo (IPT, acronym in Portuguese) together with the existing empirical methods for this type of cases.

Cenozoic structural evolution of the eastern margin of the Middle Magdalena Valley basin, Colombia : integration of structural restorations, low-temperature thermochronology, and sandstone petrography

Sánchez, Carlos Javier, M.S. in geological Sciences 10 November 2011 (has links)
Structural analysis of surface and subsurface data from the Middle Magdalena Valley basin and Eastern Cordillera fold-thrust belt to construct a kinematic model for its Cenozoic structural and stratigraphic evolution. The La Salina west-vergent thrust system marks the boundary between the Paleogene foreland basin of the Middle Magdalena basin and the Eastern Cordillera fold-thrust belt. New low-temperature thermochonological and sandstone petrographic analyses provide constraints on ages of thrust deformation and sediment dispersal. Apatite fission track (AFT) and U-Th/He thermochronological results show the timing of three structural events along the La Salina fault system: (1) late Eocene-early Oligocene (~43–35 Ma) initial hanging wall exhumation; (2) continued middle Miocene (~15 Ma) exhumation; and (3) continued but more rapid late Miocene (~12–3 Ma) hanging wall exhumation. Vitrinite reflectance results provide estimates of maximum burial depths for the hanging wall of the La Salina fault ranging from 4 to 6 km., this depth of burial estimates constrain the basin geometry during its late Eocene to late Miocene evolution. The eastern hanging wall of the La Salina fault displays a broad anticline-syncline pair affecting Cretaceous to Eocene strata with no significant faulting, whereas the western footwall contains a complex series of tight, thrust-related folds in Eocene-Quaternary strata. For foreland basin province, a proposed triangle zone accommodates a small amount of east-west shortening (< 1000 m) along the frontal thrust system by east-vergent backthrusting within a broader passive-roof duplex. East-west shortening in the Cenozoic stratigraphic section was also accommodated by detachment folding, which produced localized areas of steep dips. In the proposed kinematic restoration, the most recent phase of deformation represents out-of-sequence reactivation of the La Salina fault that is consistent with irregular crosscutting relationships of some footwall structures. Earliest exhumation by ~45–30 Ma in the Eastern Cordillera fold-thrust belt province matches (1) an increased proportion of sedimentary lithic fragments; and (2) a high degree of compositional maturity (Q88F4Lf8). Exhumation since ~15 Ma in the foreland province coincides with (1) the highest accumulation rates observed for the upper Miocene Real Group; and (2) a decrease in compositional maturity (Q55F8Lf36). / text
