To measure the cost of collaborative partnership for the healthy alberta communities project

Woo, Jane Leung-Ching 11 1900 (has links)
The Healthy Alberta Communities (HAC) is a community-based chronic disease prevention project that draws on a wide spectrum of community-initiated interventions undertaken as a cluster in four Alberta communities since 2005. HAC-funded collaborative projects are undertaken with local stakeholders. Community stakeholders who buy in contributed their own resources in kind in the collaborative process. These in kind resources are considered HAC's indirect cost from a societal perspective since stakeholders forgo the benefit of using these resources for themselves, a forgone best alternative. This study proposes a methodology to identify, catalogue and count these in kind resources, called indirect cost, which will be used in HAC economic evaluation. Methodological challenges of identifying, cataloguing and counting both direct anad indirect costs for a cluster of diverse interventions, and the manner with which these challenges were addressed, are explained. Both direct and indirect cost data that span up to the first 24 months in two HAC communities were analyzed. Some results included are: (1)in kind resources are counted in number of in kind person-hours; (2) a combined total of 11,483 in kind person-hours from community stakeholders were catalogued and counted over an eight-month period; (3) in a monetary context, a suggested typical operating expenditure to generate one in kind person-hour using a HAC model (one head office, two community offices) was $15.58. This is the first study to directly measure resources donated in kind in public health. / Epidemiology

Measurable functions and Lebesgue integration

Brooks, Hannalie Helena 11 1900 (has links)
In this thesis we shall examine the role of measurerability in the theory of Lebesgue Integration. This shall be done in the context of the real line where we define the notion of an integral of a bounded real-valued function over a set of bounded outer measure without a prior assumption of measurability concerning the function and the domain of integration. / Mathematical Sciences / M. Radiella vikter i Rn och lokala dimensioner / Radial weights in Rn and local dimensions

Svensson, Hanna January 2014 (has links)
Capacities can be of great benefit, for instance when solving partial differential equations. In most cases, capacities can be difficult to calculate exactly, in particular on weighted spaces. In these cases, it can be sufficient with an estimation of the capacity instead. For annuli around a given point, the estimation can be done using four exponent sets \underline{Q}_0, \underline{S}_0, \overline{S}_0 and \overline{Q}_0, which describe how the weight behaves in a neighbourhood of that point and in some sense define the local dimension of the space. To be able to use the exponent sets, it is useful to know which combinations of them can exist. For this we use various measures, which are a way to measure volumes of balls with varying radii in Rn. These measures are defined by different weights. Earlier, there existed a few examples giving different combinations of exponent sets. The variations consist in their relationship to each other and if their endpoints belong to the set or not. In this thesis we present five new combinations of the exponent sets, amongst them one where \underline{Q}_0 is open.

A Reading of Shakespeare's Problem Plays into History: A New Historicist Interpretation of Social Crisis and Sexual Politics in Troilus and Cressida and Measure for Measure

Jin, Kwang Hyun 12 1900 (has links)
This study is aimed to read Shakespeare's problem comedies, Troilus and Cressida and Measure for Measure into the historical and cultural context of dynamically-changing English Renaissance society at the turn of the sixteenth century. In the historical context of emerging capitalism, growing economic crisis, reformed theology, changing social hierarchy, and increasing sexual control, this study investigates the nature of complicated moral problems that the plays consistently present. The primary argument is that the serious and dark picture of human dilemma is attributed not to Shakespeare's private imagination, but to social, political, economic, and religious crises in early modern England.

Syndrom vyhoření - diagnostické možnosti (srovnávací studie) / Burnout syndrome - diagnostic possibilities (comparative study)

Vlachovská, Barbora January 2011 (has links)
The theoretical part deals with key issues of burnout - a definition, phase of syndrome, diagnostic classification, prevention, and mainly deals with the description of the methods by which the level of burnout is detected. Now probably the most common diagnostic tools are the MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) and its derivatives (eg. MBI-General Survey), but there are many other methods, such as developed by Israeli and European psychologists (BoTeLis, OLBI, CBI, MBS, etc.). The goal is to assemble a relatively complete overview of these diagnostic tools. In the empirical part, is to verify the psychometric properties of Czech version of the selected methods on a set of population, describe and analyze their characteristics.

Performance Appraisal of Estimation Algorithms and Application of Estimation Algorithms to Target Tracking

Zhao, Zhanlue 22 May 2006 (has links)
This dissertation consists of two parts. The first part deals with the performance appraisal of estimation algorithms. The second part focuses on the application of estimation algorithms to target tracking. Performance appraisal is crucial for understanding, developing and comparing various estimation algorithms. In particular, with the evolvement of estimation theory and the increase of problem complexity, performance appraisal is getting more and more challenging for engineers to make comprehensive conclusions. However, the existing theoretical results are inadequate for practical reference. The first part of this dissertation is dedicated to performance measures which include local performance measures, global performance measures and model distortion measure. The second part focuses on application of the recursive best linear unbiased estimation (BLUE) or lineae minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimation to nonlinear measurement problem in target tracking. Kalman filter has been the dominant basis for dynamic state filtering for several decades. Beyond Kalman filter, a more fundamental basis for the recursive best linear unbiased filtering has been thoroughly investigated in a series of papers by Dr. X. Rong Li. Based on the so-called quasirecursive best linear unbiased filtering technique, the constraints of the Kalman filter Linear-Gaussian assumptions can be relaxed such that a general linear filtering technique for nonlinear systems can be achieved. An approximate optimal BLUE filter is implemented for nonlinear measurements in target tracking which outperforms the existing method significantly in terms of accuracy, credibility and robustness.

Bassu, Sébastien 17 December 2013 (has links)
This study is concerned with the notion of μέτρον in Greek Antiquity from Homer to Aristotle. This notion means the « measure ». Mέτρον is a term which goes across in the same time the History of Ideas and the different domains of the philosophical thought. So the question is the determination of the meaning and function of μέτρον. In the first time, the study undertakes the determination of the ethical and practical notion about the « due measure » in the archaïc thought, from archaïc poetry (Homer, Hesiod) to Seven Wise Men and Elegy (Solo and Theognis). Then, the study undertakes to show how the « measure » is elevated to a scientifical function thanks to the mathematical development. By this development, the notion of « measure » is integrated in the rationality (logos) and study of the Physics by the first Presocratic Philosophers (Milesians, Pythagoreans, Heraclitus and Parmenides) : the « measure » is applicated to the Time and Space in Universe. Then, Plato makes metron a central notion of his philosophical thought as an ethical, epistemological and metaphysical term. He develops his own conception of « measure » against the relativism of the measure inherited from the sophistic (Protagoras and Gorgias). Finally, this study is closed on an examen about the function of μέτρον in Aristotle’s Metaphysics, Physics and Ethics.

Généralisations du critère d’indépendance linéaire de Nesterenko / Generalisations of Nesterenko's linear independence criterion

Dauguet, Simon 10 June 2014 (has links)
This Ph.D. thesis lies in the path opened by Apéry who proved the irrationality of ζ(3) andalready followed by Ball-Rivoal who proved that there are infinitely many odd integers at which Riemann zeta function takes irrational values. A fundamental tool in the proof of Ball-Rivoal is Nesterenko’s linear independence criterion. This criterion has been generalized by Fischler and Zudilin to use common divisors of the coefficients of linear forms, under some restrictive assumptions. Then Fischler gave another generalization for simultaneous approximations (instead of small Z-linear combinations). In this Ph.D. thesis, we improve this last result by greatly weakening the assumption on thedivisors. We prove also an analogous linear independence criterion in the spirit of Siegel. Inanother part joint with Zudilin, we construct simultaneous linear approximations to ζ(2) and ζ(3) using hypergeometric identitites. These linear approximations allow one to prove at thesame time the irrationality of ζ(2) and that of ζ(3). Then, using a criterion from the previouspart, we deduce a lower bound on Z-linear combinations of 1, ζ(2) and ζ(3), under somestrong divisibility hypotheses on the coefficients (so that the Q-linear independence of thesethree numbers still remains an open problem).
