Bakgrund: Under senare tid har människor blivit mer uppmärksamma om hur företag hanterar sociala- och miljömässiga frågor. Detta fokus från omvärlden kan påverka företagen att redovisa just denna frivilliga information i årsredovisningen. De senaste årens många företagsskandaler i kombination med en intensiv klimatdebatt, har lett till ett ökat fokus på företagens sociala ansvar. En kategori som även är i fokus när företagen beslutar om att avslöja frivillig information. Negativ uppmärksamhet i media kan påverka företagens beslutsfattande angående frivilligt utlämnande av information. Årsredovisningarna är ett effektivt verktyg där företagen kan kommunicera med omvärlden, och förklara hur företagen arbetar med dessa frågor. Syfte: Syftet med studien var att förklara vilka faktorer som påverkar företag att redovisa frivillig information om hållbarhet och om kvaliteten på denna information hade ökat efter att företagen utstått negativ publicitet i media. Metod: Studien utgick från en kvalitativ ansats med syfte att söka förståelse för varför dessa företag valde att redovisa frivillig information om hållbarhet. Tre av Sveriges största klädföretag studerades. En flerfallstudie med fokus på dokumentundersökning, utgjorde grunden för detta arbete. Slutsats: Kvaliteten på hållbarhetsinformationen ökade i samtliga fallföretag efter den negativa publiciteten i media. Det kan vidare inte bekräftas att ökningen av kvaliteten berodde på den aktuella händelsen.

Deadly Gun Violence : A Critical Discourse Analysis of Possible Ideological Influences on the Framing of a Mass Shooting

Statistics show that the number of mass shootings and involved fatalities have drastically increased over the last five years. The framing of these attacks in the mass media has a substantial impact on the public opinion on the causes of shootings, possible prevention methods and gun control in general. Following study aims to uncover potential ideological influences of political tendencies of liberal and conservative newspapers on the media coverage of the most recent mass shooting in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. A qualitative content analysis with a general structural analysis of 39 articles from the liberal newspaper The New York Times and the conservative newspaper The Washington Times and a more detailed Critical Discourse Analysis of the frames of blame, prevention methods and gun control were conducted. Findings show that The Washington Times´media coverage on blame attributions and prevention methods mainly included frames of mental health. The focus in The New York Times´ coverage is clearly on gun issues and the demand for gun restrictions. The topic gun control is positively framed by The New York Times. The Washington Times, however, framed gun control in connection with conspiracy theories and thus portrayed it in a more negative light. The findings prove an influence of the newspapers´ political tendencies and ideologies on the media coverage of the Florida mass shooting.

(in English) The thesis uses the second level of the agenda-setting theory to study the media's coverage of two topics during the presidential campaign in the years 2017 and 2018, in relation to candidates Miloš Zeman and Jiří Drahoš. The chosen topics are migration and the relation to the European Union. The qualitative version of the frame analysis is used to investigate which moments of the candidates' campaign were distinct in the three online media that are read by a different audience: iDnes.cz, Aeronet and Respekt.cz. While iDnes.cz applied broad range of contradictory frames, the opinion-specific media worked with a dominant perspective to frame the candidates' positions. The most successful frames in the campaign were the ones that contested negative emotions and were present in the public and media space for a longer time period. However, the media worked with the frames and their attributes in a critical way, developing or denying them, and none of the media only reproduced the candidates' positions.

The attitudes towards the prospect of membership range from fervent enthusiasm to severe skepticism, depending on the length of the process, the success or lack thereof in the institutional transformation, the compatibility of the European values with traditional norms and region-specific reasons. There have been many studies focusing on the Central and East European former candidate states, while contemporary research on the Western Balkan region is rather focused on the EU's enlargement fatigue and conditionality failure. Bakgrund Den senaste tiden har en signifikant ökning av hållbarhetsrelaterade frågor skett i media samtidigt som företag nu i allt större utsträckning redovisar om hållbarhet. Media har en central roll i dagens samhälle och hållbarhet har vuxit fram som en av näringslivets viktigaste samtidsfrågor. Studier med en kombination av media och hållbarhet är ett givande fält för forskning. Syfte Syftet med denna studie är att förklara sambandet mellan medias hållbarhetsexponering av företag och företagens upprättande och omfattning av en hållbarhetsredovisning. Metod Denna kvantitativa studie formas utifrån en deduktiv ansats där hypoteser formuleras med bakgrund i befintliga teorier. En tvärsnittsdesign tillämpas för att mäta förekomsten och variationen av ett visst fenomen vid en viss tidpunkt. Sekundärdata används som empiriskt underlag. Studien fokuserar på företag noterade på Nasdaq Stockholm. Slutsats Studiens resultat visar att företags exponering i media påverkar företags upprättande och omfattning av en hållbarhetsredovisning positivt. Storlek, bransch, lönsamhet och antal dotterbolag är faktorer som också signifikant påverkar. Det går således att konstatera att media är en primär faktor till varför företag väljer att hållbarhetsredovisa. För varje nyhetsartikel media publicerar om ett företag i en hållbarhetskontext, är det företaget 2,491 gånger mer benäget att upprätta en hållbarhetsredovisning. Studien visar även att en ökad exponering i media leder till en mer omfattande hållbarhetsredovisning. / Introduction Lately, there has been a significant increase in sustainability related issues in media, while companies increasingly are reporting on sustainability. Media has a central role in today's society, and sustainability is emerging as one of the most contemporary issues in the business industry. Studies with a combination of media and sustainability are a fruitful field for future research. Purpose The aim of this study is to explain the relationship between medias sustainability exposure of companies and these companies' establishment and extent of a sustainability report. Method This quantitative study is pursued through a deductive approach in which the hypotheses are formulated with a background in existing theories. A cross-sectional design is used to measure the presence and the variation of a given phenomena at a certain time. Secondary data is used as the empirical basis. The study focuses on companies listed at Nasdaq Stockholm. Conclusion The results of this study indicate that medias' sustainability exposure of companies affects companies' establishment and extent of a sustainability report. Size, industry, profitability and number of subsidiaries are also significant factors. We have found that media is a primary factor in explaining why companies choose to report on sustainability issues. For every news story about a given company in a sustainability context – the likelihood of that company establishing a sustainability report is increased by 2,491. This study also proves that increased media exposure leads to a more extensive sustainability reporting.

This study examines empirically whether ownership structure and board composition, political costs and media agenda setting, and proprietary costs influenced the related-party disclosures of Chinese listed companies during 2001 to 2005. The results indicate that ownership concentration, foreign ownership, the proportion of independent directors, firm size, media attention and growth opportunities have significantly affected related-party disclosures in China.

6 Abstract This thesis deals with the presentation of the Czech far-right in mass media and in connection with selected chapters of public opinion in 2011-2013. The theoretical part of the thesis consists of three parts, a part that presents the far-right in Czech and international context, a part representing the relationship of the far-right and mass media, and a part describing the situation of research of far-right in the Czech Republic. The second part of the thesis analyses the profile of the far-right in the media through content analysis and the reflection of far-right in public opinion using secondary data analysis. The results indicate far-right gains entry into the media content through the use of protest activities. Strong themes of the far-right agenda resonate in the Czech public opinion, but at the same time the Czech public opinion perceives the far-right as a serious security risk and a threat to democracy, which makes it an unacceptable alternative.

The theme of this thesis is a conceptualization of media discourse of social inadaptability on example of news reporting on the internet portal iDNES.cz. I am analysing various ideological resources and social conditions which may influence the existence and prevailing of this discourse type. My goal was also to answer the question which social groups and individuals are associated with this label and what characteristics are attributed to them by journalists. The survey examined media texts from 2006 to 2009 within theoretical and methodological framework of the critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough.
