Specifically, in the television production, where politicians play the central role or those series which take place in the political sphere and in the state bureaucracy. Another condition is that the stories are fictitious and originally produced in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The researcher choosed those TV series for his research: Yes, Minister; Yes, Prime Minister; The New Statesman, the trilogy of House of Cards, To Play The King, and The Final Cut; and The Thick of It. The research tracks individual series with the focus on the theme of the research. After introducing the reviewed material, it focuses on individual characters and their relationship to the media or whether they are directly representatives of the media professions. Il presente lavoro di tesi si propone di ricostruire le “logiche mediali” dell’editoria promossa dalle minoranze etniche attraverso un approccio etnografico. Nella prima parte si ricostruisce lo scenario mediale, culturale, istituzionale entro il quale si dipanano le attività editoriali, con particolare attenzione alle profonde trasformazioni indotte dalle dinamiche globali e dalle migrazioni internazionali. Nella seconda parte, si ricostruisce il dibattito sulle culture mediali etnico-minoritarie a partire dall'analisi dei contributi più significativi, con un approfondimento meta-teorico sugli approcci metodologici più ricorrenti e, infine, la descrizione della realtà editoriale italiana. Nella terza parte, si indaga il significato del processo di framing in relazione alla capacità dell’istituzione giornalistica di fornire definizioni della situazione sociale e, al contempo, produrre un allargamento delle forme di cittadinanza. Nella quarta e ultima parte, si espongono i risultati di una ricerca etnografica che ha coinvolto un campione composto da sei redazioni impegnate nella produzione di contenuti televisivi. Dall’indagine qualitativa emerge una panoplia di culture produttive, in cui la professionalità e l’etnicità del soggetto vengono ri-negoziate sulla base delle peculiarità di ciascun assetto produttivo. Nondimeno, le culture mediali etnico-minoritarie rappresentano un punto d’osservazione privilegiato dal quale cogliere le complesse dinamiche che investono il mediascape contemporaneo nell’epoca della convergenza. / The dissertation is an attempt to reconstruct ethnic minority publishing media logic through an ethnographic approach. The first part is a depiction of the media, cultural, institutional scenario, where publishing practices unfold, with a specific focus on meaningful transformations provoked by both global dynamics and international migrations. The second part is a reconstruction of the debate upon ethnic media culture, or rather, an analysis of the most salient approaches and a meta-theoretical examination of the most recurring methodologies. The third part provides an insight on the process of framing with relation to the journalism, and the possibility to offer a definition of the social situation and to produce an enlargement of the concept of citizenship. The fourth part is a presentation of the ethnographic results of a research upon a sample compounded by six newsroom. Qualitative outcomes reveals a huge range of productive cultures, in which both professionalism and ethnicity are negotiated in base of the specific features of each organization. Nevertheless, ethnic minority media culture represents a privileged viewpoint from where to observe the complex dynamics affecting the contemporary mediascape in the convergence era.

The main topic of this thesis is the functioning of the public service media, especially public service television broadcasters. After general definitions of the basic terms associated with this topic, the thesis highlights the differences between the media in the private and the public sectors, and characterizes the public service media in the previously selected European countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic. The choice of these particular states was based on their different economic, political and media systems. The history, the development and the crisis of the Greek public service media are subjected to a thorough analysis. Regarding the inclusion of the historical context the thesis moves onto the crisis which occurred in June 2013 due to inconsistent government interferences in the media field, which led to a suspension of the transmission of the Greek public broadcaster ERT. The practical part is dedicated to a detailed analysis of the viewership of the Greek television, focusing on the period before, during and after the crisis had occurred. The main objective of the thesis is to point out whether the government interferences had influenced the viewership of the Greek television.

This diploma thesis on the "Non-Parliamentary Political Parties in Media Communication Process. Communication Behaviour of Non-Parliamentary Parties in the Czech Republic prior to the Parliamentary Elections of 2006" suggests that political parties wishing to succeed in the dynamically changing media environment today need to present themselves through the refection of contemporary trends in the development of political communication. Based on the hypothesis that the non-parliamentary (i.e. small) political parties fail to master these principles of media and political communication, which is one (but not the single) reason why they fail to reach spectacular results in elections, this diploma thesis investigates four Czech non-parliamentary political parties participating in the parliamentary elections of 2006. The theoretical part of this diploma thesis introduces the current phenomena of political communication, including the mediatisation and personalisation of politics and the concept of politics as entertainment, with a focus on the examples of professionalization of political communication, political marketing and the importance of public opinion. Aim of the thesis is to analyze the ability of media to provide a sense of ontological security to their users. Changes, related to the transformation of traditional society into a modern society caused in the opinion of Anthony Giddens a weakening of the sense of ontological security of individuals. Such an outcome was a result of the space-time distanciation and individuals opting out of social systems as an impact of some globalization processes. Mass media in the modern society work as a main factor of social integration and differentiation. The ability to construct the sense of ontological security among its recipients is attributing in the field of television studies attributed to the traditional medium, television. But some basic characteristics of television broadcast and the role of television in households have changed with a digital television transition. Employing the methods of qualitative sociological research I will analyze whether new media have the potential to substitute television in the role of providing the sense of ontological security among its users. The Masterˈs thesis deals with an answer of public service media and a way of their representation in selected newspapers and news websites. Due to the importance of public service media as a guarantee of the balanced and neutral news and because of their specifics to commercial media, this thesis focuses on the way the other media write about them, on the example of the last elections of directors of public service media. The first part explains the specifics of public service media, their progression, the actual position and problems. Further it concerns concrete, czech public service media and there searched phenomenon, i. e. the election of director of public service media too. The second part is my own research. I researched the way of representation of the election of director of Czech Radio in the year 2016 and the elections of directors of Czech Television and Czech News Agency in the year 2017 in the journals Hospodářské noviny, Mladá fronta DNES and Právo and on the news websites IHNED.cz, iDNES.cz and Novinky.cz. The method of research was qualitative content analysis due to keep an open access to the found informations. Antagonistic and Synergetic Impacts of Conversation on Nonpersuasive Media Effects

This article elaborates the role of interpersonal communication in media effects. Based on an extensive literature review, two lines of arguments are illustrated: the antagonistic and the synergetic position. The literature provides theoretical and empirical support for both positions especially in the field of persuasive media input. To complete the view, two experiments with nonpersuasive media input are presented. The first experiment addresses the role of conversations in cognitive news effects. The synergetic position is supported: conversation leads to elaboration and more profound recall of media content. The second experiment deals mainly with emotional media effects in entertainment. No general impact of conversation on media effects was demonstrated. Nonetheless, the authors find evidence that conversations about the media engender a more critical and reserved stance toward the media content and protagonists. The article concludes with a discussion of the implications for further research into the field.

The thesis Public Service Broadcasting in the Czech Republic: compliance with PSB criteria in the case of the Czech Television is covering the topic of public service media and their system of public service evaluation. In its theoretical part this thesis is describing several approaches to a definition of public service media themselves. It is also mentioning history of the concept itself and its development not only in the Czech Republic but in Great Britain as well as other European countries. The practical functioning of the public service evaluation system is also covered on an example of the BBC and the Czech Television. In the analytical part the author is trying to describe and sum up the evaluation system as it is used by the Council of Czech Television. Detailed analysis of the data and its sources is provided as well as identification of elements that are taken into the consideration when evaluating. The analysis then leads to a discovery of certain discrepancies in the evaluation process and its outcomes. The author is trying to identify the most problematic points of the system.
