Les dinoflagellés benthiques thoxiques de Guadeloupe et Martinique : distribution et rôle trophique pour la méiofaune / Benthic dinoflagellates in Guadeloupe and Martinique : distribution and trophic role for meiofauna

Boisnoir, Aurélie 22 March 2018 (has links)
The distribution of benthic toxiï rlinofüeefü1tes is 1111known in (Juadeloupe and Martinique even if at theCaribbean basin spatial scale, those microalgae are responsible for serious poisoning such as ciguatera.During this thesis, the ecology of benthic toxic dinoflagellates μreseul was sLudieJ using: spatio-temporalstudies (Chapters 1, 2, 3) and a trophic ecology approach (Chapter 4).First, 27 sites were explored to describe the spatial distribution of benthic dinoflagellatf's prPsf'nt inGuadeloupe and Martinique (Chapter 1). Only the most abundant macrophytes (biological substrates ofbenthic dinoflagellates) at the different sites were considered. ln this study, 161 samples were analyzed and 7times more taxie benthic dinoflagellates were found in Guadeloupe than in Martinique. The genus Ostreopsisdominated the benthic dinoflagellate community in both islands, although this trend has only rarely beenfound in the Caribbean basin. Then, 3 sites per department were chosen in order to set up a monthly monitoring of benthicdinoflagellates abundances duringl8 months (Chapter 2). The sites selected i) had a high abundance ofbenthic toxic dinoflagellates and ii) were identified as potentially dangerous by the Agence Régionale de laSanté. During this study, 927 samples of macrophytes were analyzed and 5 times more benthic toxicdinoflagellates were found in Guadeloupe than in Martinique. Ostreopsis and Prorocentrum genera dominatedrespectively in Guadeloupe and in Martinique. Two times more Gambierdiscus were found in Martinique thanin Guadeloupe even if Guadeloupe is located in the high prevalence area and this genus being responsible forciguatera. This result suggested that species with different toxicities structured the benthic toxicdinoflagellates community in this area. The abundances of benthic dinoflagellates were little influenced byabiotic parameters (temperature and salinity) but structured by biotic parameters (host macrophytes).Halophila stipulacea an invasive angiosperm in the Lesser Antilles has been identified as promoting thedevelopment of the genus Gambierdiscus.. The distribution of benthic toxic dinoflagellates was also studied according to the depth at 2 sites inGuadeloupe during the dry and the wet seasons (Chapter 3). ln order to avoid bias due to the presence ofdifferent macrophytes, this experiment was conducted only on H. stipulacea constituting mono-specificmeadows along a strong depth gradient. ln this study, the Ostreopsis and Prorocentrum genera were the mostabundant. No influence of the depth was found on total abundance of benthic dinoflagellates; however,Ostreopsis and Gambierdiscus genera were mainly abundant near the surface while the genus Coolia was presentdeeper. The trophic ecology approach focused on the trophic link between taxie benthic dinoflagellates andmeiofauna (Chapter 4). Transfers within the food webs of phycotoxins synthesized by benthic dinoflagellatesare mainly studied in large organisms neglecting smaller ones in direct contact with microalgae. Thisexperimental study, by labeling the microalgae with stable isotopes, focused on harpacticoides copepod andmeasured for the first time their ingestion rates of Amphidinium sp. and Ostreopsis sp.. This studydemonstrated that meiofauna organisms can constitute an input channel of phycotoxins from benthicdinoflagellates in food webs.

L'influence de la méiofaune sur le fonctionnement du biofilm lotique en relation avec la qualité de l'eau / The influence of meiofauna on river biofilm functioning in relation to water quality

Liu, Yang 19 November 2015 (has links)
The role of meiofauna on the functioning of riverine biofilms was examined by studying their potential effect on nitrogen consumption capacity of biofilms in four experiments (Chapters 2 and 3: epilithic phototrophic biofilms; Chapters 4 and 5: heterotrophic biofilms of hyporheic zone). Biofilms are subjected to (1) different levels of densities (meiofauna) and nutrient enrichment or (2) different levels of diversity (biofilm/meiofauna/macrofauna). A part of the microcosms of each level of diversity was exposed to the effect of an herbicide, diuron. Overall, biofilm-associated meiofauna in microcosms was dominated by rotifers. Results in phototrophic biofilms showed that the response of rotifers to short-term nutrient enrichment was significant increases in their density and biomass. In addition, N-NO3 uptake rates appeared significantly higher in microcosms with highest meiofauna densities. This positive effect of meiofauna on biofilm N-NO3 uptake was also found in hyporheic biofilm microcosms, but not under the effect of diuron. Therefore, this thesis highlights that meiofauna can have a significant role in nitrogen consumption processes by lotic biofilms. In addition, the results strongly suggest that invertebrates interact with microorganisms involved in the reduction processes of nitrogen concentrations in the phototrophic biofilm as well as the hyporheic biofilm. Finally, the herbicide exposure resulted in a significant modification of N-NO3 uptake rate in hyporheic microcosms. However, the comparison of the average N- NO3 uptake rate between treatments exposed to herbicide and those unexposed, showed that the presence of invertebrates (meiofauna + macrofauna) significantly reduced the effect of diuron on these processes. This study highlights the potentially important role of microorganism-invertebrate interactions (1) in the nitrogen cycle of biofilms and thus functions related to their contribution to the "self-purification" process in streams, and (2) in resilient capacity of the hyporheic ecosystem to chemical perturbations.

Considering benthic communities few studies are related to meiobenthic communities of tropical regions with macrotidal regime. This thesis is divided in two chapters. In chaper 1 the space temporal variations of meiofauna structure and Nematoda associations were analysed in beaches with different hydrodynamics at Algodoal Island. (Para). The samplings were made during one year (September/2011, December 2011, March/2012 and June/2012) in three beaches of the island: Caixa d’Agua, Farol and Princesa. The meiofauna was composed by 14 taxons, with Nematoda and Tardigrada as dominant groups. The mean density of meiofauna at Princesa beach was significantly different from Farol beach. The result was attributed to the higher disponibility of food in the intermediate beach (Farol) and the lower disponibility of food and higher waves action in the oceanic dissipative beach (Princesa). All Nematoda descripts (density, richness, eveness and diversity) presented higher values in the protected estuarine beach Caixa d’Agua and lower in the oceanic beach. Considering stations in the beaches, higher densities occured in the middle intertidal zone and lower values in the upper intertidal zone, however richness, eveness and diversity presented maximum values on the lower intertidal zone. 131 Nematoda genera were identified. The nematofauna was significantly different between months and stations in all beaches. Water content, subtrate temperature and proportion of sand were the enviromental variables more related to Nematoda genera. In chapter 2 was verified a taxonomic review and analysys were done to identify the diversity patterns of meiofauna and Nematoda from macrotidal sandy beaches, considering different morphodynamic states and different latitudes: a literature review. Until now 46 Nematoda genera were identified in dissipative beaches, 103 in beach dominated by semi-exposted tide, 82 in protected beach, 80 in beach modified by tide and 82 in ultradissipative beaches. Concerning latitudes, 139 genera were recorded in tropical region and 107 in temperate region.

Biogene Steuerung ökologischer Systemeigenschaften des hyporheischen Interstitials der Lahn (Hessen)

Ibisch, Ralf B. 20 November 2004 (has links) (PDF)
