Cortés Ortiz, William Giovanni 02 September 2020 (has links)
[EN] The catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons is a process that has been evaluated since the beginning of catalysis due to the importance of obtaining products of commercial interest that contribute to the industrial and economic development of the world. This document presents the results of the synthesis and characterization of catalytic materials of iron, molybdenum, and vanadium, as well as the results of catalytic activity in the oxidation of methane and methanol. Initially, a brief history of catalysis is presented, as well as of the selective oxidation processes of hydrocarbons. The basic concepts involved in heterogeneous catalysis are addressed, emphasizing the role of catalytic materials in chemical oxidation processes. On the other hand, aspects related to obtaining methanol from synthesis gas are presented and some of the most important characteristics of the catalytic oxidation of methanol, such as reaction conditions, properties required in the catalysts, and the products of interest. Likewise, the specific needs required for the selective oxidation of methane to methanol are studied, starting from the premise of the difficulty of the process due to the stability of the methane molecule. Subsequently, the results obtained in the synthesis of catalytic materials of iron, molybdenum, vanadium, and the mixture of the three, supported on silica by the sol-gel method, are presented. Such materials are used in the selective oxidation reactions of methanol and methane. Among the results, it is evident that the silica used as support has two forms of quartz depending on the calcination temperature to which it is subjected, α-quartz, and β-quartz. On the other hand, it is identified that the materials prepared with different iron charges (0.5, 1.5 and 5.0% by mass) and calcined at 450 and 750 ° C present, in addition to a characteristic band of silica, a series of peaks assigned to hematite-like iron species α-Fe2O3, which leads to the conclusion that the thermal transformation of the iron precursor (iron acetate heptahydrate) allowed obtaining iron oxides with a Fe3 + oxidation state. Once the results of the characterization have been discussed, the results of catalytic activity in the oxidation processes of methanol and methane are presented. Initially, the catalytic system used is described, then the catalytic results obtained using iron, molybdenum and vanadium catalysts supported on silicon oxide are discussed, depending on the metal load, calcination temperatures, and synthesis conditions. For the oxidation of methanol, conversion values of around 90% in mol are observed with selectivities to different reaction products such as formaldehyde, dimethyl ether, methyl formate. Regarding the catalytic oxidation of methane, conversion values of around 3.0% in mol are observed with selectivities mainly to formaldehyde and carbon oxides. Finally, the general conclusions are presented in accordance with the results obtained, as well as recommendations to guide the following activities to be carried out, aimed at the synthesis of catalytic materials and the evaluation of methane and methanol oxidation processes.

Reimers, Walter Guillermo 15 December 2015 (has links)
The growing demand for energy due to population growth and development of non-industrialized countries in recent decades has led to the urgent need for new, clean and efficient fuels. In this search hydrogen an energy vector potential for the future. It is already known the high efficiency of hydrogen as an energy source is widely known, as the well as low environmental pollution it produces. However, its use as a fuel has difficulties still unresolved. Therefore it is convenient to think of an alternative fuel, versatile, and easy to apply in daily use (such as methanol) to reduce the consumption of oil-derived fuels. In this thesis, studies- on the one hand, all the steps for the synthesis of methanol from CO gas in catalytic surfaces of oxides of cerium, gallium and zinc; and on the other hand, it develops a theoretical methodology that can be extended to the study and analysis of other surface reactions. The early chapters, study the adsorption and reactivity of molecules of CO, CO2 and H2 on surfaces CeO2 with cuts (111) and (331), Ga2O3(100) and ZnO(0001)-perfect and with oxygen vacancies. The same reactions are studied on surfaces supported ZnO / CeO2 (111) and Ga2O3 / CeO2 (111)as a modeling of epitaxial growth of a monolayer of ZnO and Ga2O3, respectively. Then, the methanol synthesis is studied from reactions of progressive hydrogenation of CO. Activation barriers at each step of the synthesis are calculated the possible directions of each reaction are describe. In conclusion, the methodology used in this thesis is appropriate for similar reactions in a set of oxides.

Estudo nanogravimétrico das instabilidades cinéticas em sistemas eletrocatalíticos / Nanogravimetric Study of Kinetic Instability in Electrocatalytic Systems

Ragassi, Marcelo Victor 11 April 2019 (has links)
The study of the mass variation on the surface of the electrode can provide important information about interfacial processes. If there is a good interpretation, the results may aid in the elucidation of the reaction mechanism. So, aspects like adsorption of electroactive species, formation and oxidation of adsorbents, load transfer processes and their dependence on potential can be evaluated. The appearance of kinetic instabilities in electrochemical systems, particularly during the electro-oxidation of small organic molecules, has been the subject of several studies. The electro-oxidation of methanol was studied on platinum in alkaline and acid media using the technique of nanobalance electrochemical scale to quartz crystal. The alkali metal cations have a very important role on the electrodes processes, influencing the formation of PtO and the oxidation current of the fuel. The oxidation of the KOH surface is favored in relation to LiOH and the mass variation for this process is greater in the first case. However, the calculated molar mass for oxygenated species on the surface was higher for the solution containing LiOH. To verify the interaction of the oxidized platinum surface with the organic, open-circuit potential measurements were performed and it was found that in the solution containing Li+ ions the time before the steep drop in potential was greater, corresponding during the transient mass variation of -69.0 ng.cm-2 and - 62.3 ng.cm-2 for the solutions of aqueous potassium hydroxide and aqueous lithium hydroxide, respectively. In the acid experiments, the focus was to study the mass variation during oscillations under galvanostatic conditions. It was noted that this variation of mass it was very small, about 4.7 ng.cm-2, when aqueous sulfuric acid electrolyte was used, and with relatively good resolution. Then, the electro-oxidation of methanol in solution of perchloric acid in the absence and presence of chloride ions on platinum was studied. The oxidation of the plantine surface is delayed to potentials a little more high in the solution containing chloride than in relation to that without these ions, After the addition of methanol an estimation of the coating of oxidation in the surface was realized for the two situations in question. The value of θO found was 3.1 and 3.4 for the solution without chloride and with chloride, respectively. In the galvanostatic experiments, it was verified that the oscillations of potential and mass presented higher frequency when there were Cl- ions in the solution. With the nanogravimetry experiments, it was possible to calculate the variation of θCO during an oscillation. The values obtained were 0.08 and 0.12 for the solution with and without chloride, respectively. In a final step, the electrode was polarized at 1.4 V for 300 s and then the circuit was opened and waited until it reached equilibrium potential. It was observed that the time for this potential to be reached was 9.1 s for solution without chloride and 31 s for the one containing the anions. In addition, the value of θO was calculated for the two solutions. For the first, the value was 4.2 and for the second it was 5.1. The chloride ions influence in the oxidation reduction process in open circuit potential experiments throughout the transient due to the chemisorption process that occurs and competition with the methanol molecules through free sites. This phenomenon is also possibly responsible for the mass observed in the transient and consequently in the value of θO.

Preparação de ligas binárias e ternárias de Pt, W e Os para a oxidação de metanol em células a combustível de baixa temperatura / Preparation of Pt, W e Os binary and tertiary alloys for the oxidation of methanol in low temperatures fuel cells

Bortholin, Érica de Camargo 25 January 2007 (has links)
Modern society integrally depends on the production and consumption of energy for its activities like cooking, lighting and transportation and also for industrial processes. The increase in the demand for energy increases the levels of pollution, which has a direct negative effect in human health. Thus, it is imperative to search for new power sources which, under ideal conditions, do not pollute the environment. One of the alternatives to attack this problem is the electrochemical energy conversion of chemical energy into electricity which can be carried out in an efficient and clean way with fuel cells. Presently, there is a great interest in fuel cells that oxidize methanol directly, for application in vehicles, portable devices and distributed generation. To make these cells a reality it is still necessary much progress in the understanding of the electrodic phenomena associated to the oxidation of methanol, and in the development of suitable electrocatalysts, at both the fundamental and the technological levels. In this work, PtW; PtOs, PtRuW and PtWOs eletrocatalysts, supported on high surface area carbon, for the direct oxidation of methanol were developed. The catalysts were prepared by reduction with formic acid of the corresponding precursors and by Bonnëmann´s method. Their composition was determined by XRD. The average particle size was determined from TEM, and the results compared to crystallite sizes determined from x-ray diffractograms. The electrochemical studies were carried out with cyclic voltammetry and steady state polarization curves using the thin porous coating electrode technique. Some catalysts were also studied by the EXAFS technique. The catalysts prepared show activity in the potential region of interest, and some of then were tested in single fuel cells.

Syngas, a gas mixture produced from biogas generated in the anaerobic treatment of wastewaters, and carbon dioxide (CO2), a biogas constituent, are promising feedstocks for obtaining value-added chemicals known as C2-C4 products, which include ethylene, propylene, butane, methanol, and dimethyl ether (DME). In this work, Cu catalysts supported on pillared clay were studied aiming at producing C2-C4 compounds from hydrogenation of CO and CO2. The studies were conducted toward optimizing the catalysts performance both for Fischer-Tropsch process and direct synthesis of DME. First, the effect of Al and Nb pillared agents on the conversion of methanol to C2-C4 products was evaluated. The pillared agent was selected and further used to evaluate the Cu content (5 to 10 wt.%) effect on the bifunctional CuZn/V Al-PILC catalyst. Finally, the addition of Ce, Nb, Fe and/or Co (5 wt.%) to the 10 wt.% Cu-containing catalyst supported on V-Al PILC pillared clay was studied. The methanol conversion was performed in the temperature range 250 - 400 °C for 2 h under flow of 1.1 mL h-1. The CO and CO2 hydrogenation reactions were carried out at 250 °C and 300 °C, respectively, for 3 h and P = 40 bar using ratios H2/CO = 2 and H2/CO2 = 3. The catalysts were characterized by means of in situ and ex situ X-ray diffraction (XRD), Rietveld refinement, N2 physisorption, chemical composition analysis (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR-H2), Cu oxidation with N2O (TPD-N2O) pyridine adsorption-FTIR spectroscopy (FTIR-Py), temperature-programmed NH3 desorption (TPD-NH3), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The pillaring process along with impregnation of Cu with Zn, Ce, Nb, Fe and/or Co produced catalysts with different structural and acidity properties, which favored the conversion of CO and CO2 into C2 -C4 products. The bimetallic CuFe/V-Al-PILC catalyst presented the highest catalytic activity on the CO and CO2 hydrogenation reactions, and best selectivity for DME synthesis. The low selectivity for obtaining DME was revealed to be most likely due to low total acid sites density of catalysts and high experimental spatial velocity.

Preparação de suportes de carbono dopados com nitrogênio (N), enxofre (S) e fósforo (P) para aplicação na oxidação eletroquímica do metanol / Preparation of carbon supports doped with nitrogen (N), sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) for methanol electro-oxidation

Pereira, Viviane Santos 24 August 2016 (has links)
In this work, commercial Vulcan XC72 carbon was modified with heteroatoms like N, S and P by thermal treatment at 800 ° C in the presence of urea, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, respectively. The modified carbons were used in the preparation of Pt/C and PtRu/C electrocatalysts and tested for methanol electro-oxidation. The materials were characterized by dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The methanol electro-oxidation was studied by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The Raman spectra showed that the intensity ratios of D- and G- bands of the carbon supports modified with heteroatoms were higher than that observed for Vulcan XC72 carbon suggesting the incorporation in the structure. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that Pt/C electrocatalysts have face-centered cubic structure (fcc) and transmission electron micrographs presented particle sizes in the range 4-5 nm. For PtRu/C electrocatalysts made with carbon supports modified with N and S, the X-ray diffraction patterns showed only the presence of Pt(fcc) phase with no shift of the Pt peaks. Peaks of Ru crystalline phases were not identified suggesting that in these materials Ru appears as an amorphous phase. On the other hand, for PtRu/C electrocatalyst prepared with carbon support modified with P, there was a shift of Pt(fcc) peaks to higher angles suggesting Pt-Ru alloy formation and the presence of Ru hexagonal close-packed phase was also observed. Pt/C and PtRu/C electrocatalysts prepared with carbon support modified with heteroatoms showed a significant improvement of electrocatalytic activity when compared to the unmodified material. The improvement in electrocatalytic activity can be related to changes in the metal-support interaction, as well as to the different Pt and Ru species for PtRu/C electrocatalyst prepared with carbon support modified with P.

Influência da inalação de metanol na farmacocinética enantiosseletiva da fluvastatina em ratos / Inalation influence of methanol on the pharmacokinetics enantiosselective of fluvastatin in rats.

Cardoso, Juciane Lauren Cavalcanti 30 April 2008 (has links)
Dislipidemia is one of the main causes of cardiovascular illness and very frequent in the adults population. Fluvastatin, a racemic mixture of the (-)-3S,5R and (+)-3R,5S enantiomers, has been shown to be a potent competitive inhibitor of HMGCoA reductase used in the hypercholesterolemia treatment and with elimination in the man essentially dependent of the CYP2C9. Methanol is used by solvent and is an inhibitor of the CYP2C9 in human beings. The present study reports the influence of methanol inhalation on the enantiosselective pharmacokinetics of fluvastatin in rats. Fluvastatin was administrated by oral gavage (5 mg/Kg) to the animals (n=6/time) and blood samples were collected until 30 hours. The enantiomers were analysed by HPLC using Chiralcel® OD-H column and fluorescence detection. The pharmacokinetics parameters were analysed by Wilcoxon and Mann-Witney tests. The results are reported as mean (95% CI). Kinetic disposition of FV for animals exposed to methanol (262mg/m3), as for control group, was enantiosselective with plasma accumulation of (-)-3S,5R enantiomer. The following differences (p< 0.05) were observed between the control and methanol (1048 mg/m3), apparent total clearance (Cl/F) of 2.52 (1.64-3.40) vs 1.51 (1.01-2.06) L.h-1.Kg-1; apparent volume of distribution (Vd/F) of 44.60 (19.20-55.49) vs 10.45 (7.20-15.96) L.Kg-1; elimination half life (t1/2?) of 10.85 (5.92-14,47) vs 5.23 (4.22-6.27) h; elimination rate constant (?) of 0.06 (0.04-0.11) 0.13 (0.10-0.16) h-1, area under the plasma concentration versus time curve (AUC 0-?) of 991.79 (689.57-1491.00) vs 1647.20 (1155.30- 2391.60) ng.h.mL-1, and AUC(-)/AUC(+) 2.50 (2.03-4.06) vs 1.22 (0.96-1.56). The data demonstrated that methanol inhalation at 1048 mg/m3 results in loss of enantioselectivity with plasmatic accumulation of (+)-3R5S, modifying the enantioselective kinetic disposition of Fluvastatin in rats.

Gomes, Orisson Ponce. January 2019 (has links)
Despite the biocompatibility of this oxide is recognized, there are still many aspects of the adhesion mechanisms between the proteins and the material surface that are not completely understood. Chemically, the surface of these oxides is mainly terminated by -OH groups which can be readily functionalized. This chemical functionalization or simply a physical modification of the material surface can improve the interaction between the oxide and the biological environment. In addition, titanium dioxide may have the number of hydroxyl groups increased by physical induction under exposure to ultraviolet light. Although this hydroxylation process is less stable, it is possible to increase the number of active sites for a more efficient functionalization. Although the groups generated by this process are thermodynamically less stable, the greater number of active sites available to bound to organic molecules can result in a more efficient functionalization. In this work, the adsorption conformational studies of three different bifunctional molecules, 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA), 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) and 3-(4-aminophenil) propionic acid (APPA), are presented. These molecules act as spacers in the protein immobiliz... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre
