Argivale inligtingontsluiting en -herwinning vir die historiese navorser / Archival information orgqanisation and retrieval for the historical researcher

Ingram, Annette 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate archival information organisation and retrieval at the end of the 20th century, especially with regard to serious historical research. Information was collected by the following means: an extensive literature survey, interviews with archivists in both state and private archives and an empirical survey by means of a questionnaire distributed amongst mainly serious historical resea rchers. The researcher personally examined archival finding aids such as inventories, guides and indexes, as well as the computerised archival database, for firsthand knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of these research aids. It was found that technological developments had changed the nature of archives and archival sources, the most important adjustment being to electronic information sources and oral history archives. The impact of computer networks on the archival milieu, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of dealing with electronic archival records and oral history archives, was subsequently discussed in detail. Although the organisation and description of archival source material are still based on the principles of provenance and original order, certain adaptations are necessary. Without these processes no access to archival sources is possible. Effective archival information retrieval can only be achieved if sufficient funds are made available and well-trained, experienced staff are appointed. Subsequently the changing nature of historical research, especially with regard to the choice of research topics, was discussed. Modern tendencies such as history from below, or the history of everyday life, and the history of women, were investigated, in opposition to traditional historical emphasis on important political figures and happenings. Research further showed that accessibility to archival information sources is of paramount importance to the historical researcher. The important role of the archivist and archival finding aids, is emphasised. During the empirical phase the answers of respondents about their visits to archives were analysed. The experiences of historical researchers with regard to archival finding aids, computerised archival networks, and reading room staff, are discussed. The study is concluded with important findings and a number of recommendations pertaining to historical research as an archival activity in a changing information world. / Information Science / D. “Ek het 'n roeping” : vrouepredikante se toelating in die Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk : 'n kerkhistoriese en prakties-teologiese studie (Afrikaans)

Buchner, Elsje Petronella 27 August 2008 (has links)
Thesis (DD)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / Church History and Church Policy / unrestricted

Informatizace a sociální reality - aplikace do oblasti globální ekonomiky / Informatization and Social Realities - Application to Domain of Global Economy

Galatík, Lubomír January 2009 (has links)
Information and communication technologies constitute a substantial part of today's world. Growing informatization, i.e. implementation of these technologies, in all areas of human activities generates a need to reflect upon their influence on man and society. The significance of this intellectual endeavor is accentuated by the very nature of these technologies. Since they are inserted between individuals in acts of mutual communication their application impacts on information processes within the frame of human societies. This factor takes effect everywhere, no less in the economic environment. In consequence of recent events which gave rise to a financial meltdown at first and an economic crisis later, the necessity to inquire into the effect of informatization on the domain of arrangement of economic relationships acquires its sense of urgency. At present, however, there is a significant gap between the theoretical framework which man uses to intellectually embrace these phenomena and the application of the technologies in question in which a disproportionately greater amount of resources are being invested. Therefore our capability of capturing in our train of thought the changes in the socioeconomic environment of today caused by informatization lags behind the very speed and dynamics of the changes. For that reason, the objective of this diploma thesis is to create a methodological-phenomenological framework for deliberation on the influence of information and communication technologies on the globalizing economy. The fundamental attribute which induces far-reaching transmutations in this field is the virtualization potential that the modern, symbolic and highly interactive forms of these technologies have obtained. As they began to be implemented in the frame of the arrangement of economic relationships, they impinged on a domain whose inner dynamism has already split into two components -- virtual and real -- by the symbol of value -- money. Another layer of virtualization related to the information and communication technologies as such therefore transforms the economy into a much more complex whole, the research of which poses an intellectual challenge as well as a necessity as the changing character of the globalizing economy shelters many pitfalls. This thesis offers theoretical points of departure for grasping the issues in question.

Consumer Identity / Consumer Identity

Young, Melissa Marie January 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to prove that despite consumers' impression that they are alone in deciding their consumption decision they are wrong. Consumers are manipulated on various levels by marketers. It is the marketer who decides what consumer identities should be created. Consumers are persuaded by marketers on different levels beginning with consumers' needs. Marketers begin by appealing to consumer drives, motivations and emotions to persuade their consumers to purchase their brand. On a more in-depth level marketers manipulate consumers by using a variety of human behaviour learning strategies to sway consumers' purchasing decisions. In addition, marketers use various environmental and social-environmental influences to control their consumers. Lastly, a practical example illustrating the multinational corporation Nike is used, to prove that marketers are aware of these different methods and use them to manipulate consumers. In the end of this paper it is very obvious that consumers are easily persuade by marketers. A consumer is only the puppet while the marketer is the puppet string master.

Úvahy o globálním řádu po skončení studené války: perspektiva Francise Fukuyamy a Samuela P. Huntingtona / Reflections on the Global Order after the End of the Cold War: the Perspective of Francis Fukuyama and Samuel P. Huntington

Jurásek, Miroslav January 2009 (has links)
The times coming with the End of the Cold War were very turbulent. Politicians had to take into the consideration lots of scenarios and the next global trends to make correct decisions. Most of the very numerous visions of the future global order followed more or less the twofold pattern: order or anarchy. "The End of History and the Last Man" and "The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order" written by two prominent American political scientists Francis Fukuyama and Samuel P. Huntington and published at the beginning of the 90s are the most representative works that fit into this pattern. These provocative and controversial theories have been criticized and empirically challenged by many on one side, on the other side it hasn't impeded others to use them as a starting point for their next analyses. This dissertation thesis is a contribution to the debate between the dissenters and the supporters of these theories from a predictive point of view. Through the research theoretical methodology it is argued that the examined theories are still valid even nowadays because their theoretical essence (or hard core in the Lakatosian research program) has not been refuted yet. Nevertheless, the hard core of the theories determines their very specific character which puts forward the importance of the factors labelled in the Lakatosian framework as an external history of a science. These factors organized according to the Mehtas criteria of so called strong idea are, especially in the social sciences, decisive for how a theoretical construct is accepted in a broader non-academic context. It is demonstrated that both theories fulfill all criteria to be very influential in practice, although the idea of clash of civilizations is even more powerful in this respect. The specific features of all theories are illustrated on two case studies: Union of South American Nations and Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Firstly, the selection of these case studies is justified and secondly, the anomalies in terms of the Lakatosian methodology are identified and then explained. There have been found no unexplainable anomalies, which practically confirms the validity of both research programs on one side, on the other side it facilitates a better assessment of the studied theories in a sense of their interpretative scope and possibilities.

Multimediální komunikace / Multimedia communication

Vondra, Zdeněk January 2015 (has links)
Multimedia is a form of communication and sharing knowledge using synergic effect of parallel connected communication channels. Its main use is in producing communications products and services and in design of user interfaces. Main objective of this dissertation is to develop and create a model of multimedia communication for better understanding of the meaning and the purpose of using multimedia forms in communication process. The model will describe a system of elements and parameters of multimedia communication within the internal and external context. Another objective of this dissertation is to develop multimedia communication methodology that will be used for the design, development and evaluations of concepts of multimedia communication. The methodology will be created by applying the model of multimedia communication into the procedure structure. In theoretical way this dissertation is based on analysis of different definitions and approaches to the multimedia communications topic. This is followed by an analysis of communication theories, concepts of media, multimedia, delivery channels, and communication functions. The theoretical part is followed by the outcomes of the research in practice of four different fields of multimedia use. The knowledge gained is analyzed in the following parts in purpose of creating the model of multimedia communication and the methodology which is derived from the model. The methodology is further validated through case studies and the recommendations for further development are formulated. The model and the methodology of multimedia communication created in this dissertation present complex view on multimedia communication topic that is considered as a useful tool for meeting a specific communication purpose. Dissertation provides mechanics for use and study of multimedia communication and also defines the opportunities for further development of the methodology.

A Framework for Exploring Information Systems Quality Perspectives / Rámec pro posouzení kvalitativních hledisek informačních systémů

Tamtam, Abdurrzzag Giuma A January 2008 (has links)
