Evaluation of Microcontroller Simulation for Transmission Control Units of Passenger Cars

Maniruzzaman, Md 14 November 2019 (has links)
Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is an essential part of automatic transmission operation in modern vehicles. TCUs control the switching behavior of an automatic transmission system with a control Software, which takes direct input from the sensors as well as from the engine control unit and makes driving a vehicle much optimum and dynamic as well as provides fuel efficiency. Thus, developing intelligent and sophisticated control software for the TCUs is crucial. To ensure an optimal performance from the TCUs, proper testing of the control software has shown significant results. Software in the Loop (SIL) testing is the one that comes into the consideration when it comes to testing and verification of control software. With the increasing level of complexities in the software modules, the testing of the codes in a real hardware is very complex, risky and expensive. Whereas a SIL simulation promises to provide a much faster and effective testing system without using a real hardware and to improve the development process. This thesis evaluates the possibility of using a microcontroller simulation for the SIL simulation of control software. The simulations of Transmission Control Unit of vehicles are primarily done by building an executable for PCs. This executable differs from the actual software (hex) that’s flashed into the controller. Thus, there are two separate development processes for the simulation and the controller. To solve this, a single simulation of the controller is considered as a solution. But, simulating a whole controller is a very complex and expensive procedure which is not available explicitly. Hence, simulation of the microcontroller is a viable and affordable option at this point of time. For the purpose of simulation during this thesis work, AURIX TriCore from Infineon Technologies has been chosen as the target controller; which is a high-end microcontroller with 32-bit architecture and preferred in a lot of automotive applications. As for a simulation tool, the Universal Debug Engine from PLS GmbH has been selected for its ability to provide the required criteria. A prototype environment has been imagined and implemented which includes a Program to be flashed on the target controller, simulation of the same code into the simulator and finally, running this simulation results along with the SIL environment. The necessary criterion to run the simulation has been documented herewith.

Övervakning av jordfuktighet med hjälp av mikrokontroller och sensorer på en travbana / Soil moisture monitoring with help of microcontrollers and sensors on a harness racing track

Blomqvist, Per, Andersson, Karl January 2022 (has links)
The access to water could be taken for granted, but 29 % of the world's population lacks access to clean water. We all need to take responsibility for reducing our consumption in order to save on the limited resource.to precision irrigateThis report presents a solution to reduce water consumption in trotting. The solution consists of sensors that measure the moisture level in the soil and an algorithm that calculates the amount of water needed to achieve a selected value. To evaluate the solution, a prototype has been created. The prototype has undergone various tests to ensure that it meets the requirements and expectations that exist. A system that can monitor the course and get an exact value for the amount of water needed contributes to an opportunity to precision irrigate. This could contribute to a reduction in water usage. Hopefully, trotting tracks will be able to benefit from this report and help contribute to a more sustainable future where we all strive to reduce our water consumption.

The Neck Hammock : A First-Person Soma Design Project on the Experience of Rocking

Kidder-Wolff, Aidan January 2022 (has links)
Aesthetics in design are often subjective because definitions of the qualities of interaction differ. Some aesthetics, however, can be distinctly shown with body movement, perhaps offering a more concrete method to communicate experience. This thesis explores a first-person understanding, as a dancer and masseuse, of pleasant passive rocking. It then documents the design process of an artefact capable of conveying the same experience. Rocking was chosen due to personal history and interest in how it can be shown explicitly using the body, unlike many other aesthetics. Using first-person Soma Design methods, this process began with brainstorming attributes of rocking and later utilized defamiliarization through Feldenkrais-inspired activities. With the newfound understanding of rocking, a shape-changing neck pillow named the Neck Hammock was created to evoke a dancer’s and masseuse’s rocking. Quantitative exploration of the Neck Hammock movement placed rocking along a spectrum of experience, and also revealed that the deeply introspective experience can result in vivid mental visualizations of past lived experiences. These visualizations made categorizing a session with the Neck Hammock simple, as successful trials evoked memories of hammocks, rocking chairs, etc. This suggests that individual responses to the Neck Hammock will be unique based upon the user’s past associations with rocking, though general qualities like pleasantness ought to remain. While many trials conveyed rocking, few aligned perfectly with the targeted pleasant passive rocking. The trials that were successful and caused a mental visualization had significant emotional impact and sometimes caused long-lasting full body experiences.

Edge Machine Learning for Wildlife Conservation : Detection of Poachers Using Camera Traps

Arnesson, Pontus, Forslund, Johan January 2021 (has links)
This thesis presents how deep learning can be utilized for detecting humans ina wildlife setting using image classification. Two different solutions have beenimplemented where both of them use a camera-equipped microprocessor to cap-ture the images. In one of the solutions, the deep learning model is run on themicroprocessor itself, which requires the size of the model to be as small as pos-sible. The other solution sends images from the microprocessor to a more pow-erful computer where a larger object detection model is run. Both solutions areevaluated using standard image classification metrics and compared against eachother. To adapt the models to the wildlife environment, transfer learningis usedwith training data from a similar setting that has been manually collected andannotated. The thesis describes a complete system’s implementation and results, including data transfer, parallel computing, and hardware setup. One of the contributions of this thesis is an algorithm that improves the classifi-cation performance on images where a human is far away from the camera. Thealgorithm detects motion in the images and extracts only the area where thereis movement. This is specifically important on the microprocessor, where theclassification model is too simple to handle those cases. By only applying theclassification model to this area, the task is more simple, resulting in better per-formance. In conclusion, when integrating this algorithm, a model running onthe microprocessor gives sufficient results to run as a camera trap for humans. However, test results show that this implementation is still quite underperform-ing compared to a model that is run on a more powerful computer.

Storage Efficient Code on Microcontrollers

Tågerud, Hampus January 2018 (has links)
In this paper, a more storage efficient way of running code on microcontrollers is presented, implemented and compared against the conventional method. The method involves utilising a jump table and the objective is to be able to execute larger amounts of code than fits into the program memory of the microcontroller. Without loosing too much performance. In conclusion, there is no obvious answer to whether the implemented system is a viable alternative to traditional applications or not. More variables than just performance are brought up and must be considered when a system is implemen- ted. However, the developed prototype introduced a minor overhead of about 1%. It could therefore be concluded that the prototype is a viable alternative, to the conventional way of running applications, performance-wise.
