The thesis deals with the influence of the Mesoamerican indigenous cultures on the work of the Guatemalan writer Miguel Ángel Asturias. The main focus is put on the ancient Maya culture as the author had the opportunity to get very close to their cultural heritage. The studied books are Legends of Guatemala (Leyendas de Guatemala), The President (El Señor Presidente) and Men of Maize (Hombres de maíz). The first part of the thesis outlines the author's life and highlights his connection with the Maya culture. The second part of the thesis briefly presents the native cultures of Guatemala whilst the final, third part of the work is dedicated to the analysis of the influence of these cultures on Asturias' literary creation itself. My dissertation analyzes the way in which Latin American novelists use the Faustian tradition to symbolize the inclusion of marginal groups into mainstream cultures. The establishment of a national culture that holds citizens together depends on its ability to subsume different cultural sources and to assign to each one of them a space within the nation. This stratification of culture is the result of the negotiation of authority within hegemonic groups. In my dissertation I trace the negotiation of authority in the aesthetic choices that authors make when it comes to compose a new rendition of the myth of Faust. The study of works produced between 1956 and 1967 allows me to focus on the height of the internationalization of Latin American literature. The works that constitute the main corpus of my study are: João Guimarães Rosa's Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956) from Brazil, Miguel Ángel Asturias's Mulata de tal (1963) from Guatemala, and José Donoso's El lugar sin límites (1957) from Chile. As a way to trace the issues at stake in these works back to the nineteenth century, I also include a chapter on the Argentine poem entitled Fausto (1867), composed by Estanislao del Campo. This enables me to present early stages of the Faustian tradition in Latin America, and how it relates to the conflict between city and rural regions. My dissertation not only interprets Latin American texts within their context, but also explores the way in which lettered urban groups integrate an international tradition in the evaluation of these contexts. My dissertation presents the way in which authors from this part of the world intervene in well-established Western literary traditions and not only read their reality from this stand point, but their realities modify the reach of traditions such as that of the man who sells his soul to devil.

[EN] The goal of this study is to find out the composing elements and resources which have been used by Spanish bands and soloists of the Pop music in the 80's. The present work is composed of various sections: firstly, a sociological part, compiling all the necessary information to select the songs which will be the core of the analysis. Secondly, a historic study about the effect that these songs have had on the public; and finally, an analytical study where not only the formal, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic and timbre aspects have been defined, but also some of the tecniques used to write the lyrics. In this work, different specialists related to Pop music have been interviewed, such as singers, musicians, radio speakers, DJs, sound technicians and businessmen. This research, apart from looking into the most relevant songs at that period, also compiles huge information about their composing aspects and provides essential information to understand the musical reality of the Spanish Pop music in the 80's, including numerous examples and transcriptions of musical passages. / [ES] La intención del presente estudio es averiguar los elementos y recursos compositivos utilizados por los grupos y solistas españoles de música Pop de la década de los 80. El trabajo se compone de varias secciones: una parte sociológica, recopilando toda la información precisa para obtener las canciones que después serán objeto del análisis, un estudio histórico de la repercusión que esas canciones han tenido en el público y en tercer lugar analítico, en el que se definen los aspectos formales, armónicos, melódicos, rítmicos y tímbricos de las canciones, así como alguno de los recursos utilizados para la confección de las letras. En este trabajo se ha consultado a diferentes profesionales relacionados con la música: Cantantes, músicos, locutores de radio, DJ, técnicos de sonido y empresarios. El presente trabajo de investigación estudia la influencia que tiene el mundo italiano en la producción lírica del poeta chileno Raúl Zurita. Debido a la ingente cantidad de material bibliográfico y a los numerosos núcleos temáticos, la presente tesis se divide en tres partes. En la primera se presenta un panorama general de los acontecimientos vitales del poeta chileno que han influenciado su literatura. Con el fin de crear un marco metodológico que nos sirva como contexto lingüístico y literario, nos dedicamos a examinar de manera específica las facetas de la lingüística y de la teoría de la literatura aplicadas a la obra zuritiana, proponiendo una aproximación diferente a la que expone la crítica actual. Seguidamente, se proponen unos tópicos literarios comunes entre la poesía zuritiana y los elementos del mundo italiano, para averiguar cuál es su grado de participación en la poética del autor. En la segunda parte de la tesis nos dedicamos a estudiar la presencia de Dante Alighieri en la poesía del autor chileno. Se presenta además una nueva propuesta de lectura para interpretar el rol de Raúl Zurita dentro de su obra, tomando en consideración los estudios previos de los exégetas dantescos. Para concluir, proponemos un análisis de los primeros, inéditos, VII cantos de la Divina Commedia traducidos por Raúl Zurita, que el lector puede encontrar en un apéndice al final del epígrafe. La tercera y última parte de la tesis está dedicada a otros artistas italianos que han tenido un papel fundamental en la lírica y la reflexión zuritiana. En primer lugar, nos centramos en Miguel Ángel para examinar cómo el autor chileno desarrolla un nuevo lenguaje poético gracias a las obras del artista aretino. Seguidamente pasamos a analizar la influencia de Giacomo Leopardi, Pier Paolo Pasolini y finalmente Cesare Pavese. El propósito último de este trabajo es demostrar, en primer lugar, quiénes son los personajes italianos que forman parte de la lírica zuritiana. Una vez sentada esta base, queremos dar al lector las herramientas para probar que Dante, Miguel Ángel, y los creadores de la modernidad no se pueden explicar ni delimitar con la definición “cita”, sino que forman parte activa de la creación de una poética del compromiso. Al final de la tesis, se hallarán dos apéndices: la entrevista que Raúl Zurita nos concedió en marzo 2017 y un corpus inédito de 50 poemas traducidos del español al italiano.

The diploma thesis "The Return of the Baroque in Hispano-American Novel of the 20th Century - Asturias, Carpentier, Roa Bastos" examines Baroque motifs and principles in the modern 20th century Hispanic-American novel. It explains how these traits alter in contrast to the historical Baroque, how they are modified or what other functions they acquire. An attempt was made to critically rethink and re-evaluate the literary theories dealing with the reappearance of the Baroque in Hispanic America, as we consider their approach to be generalising and reductive. The interpretative method is based on Josef Vojvodík's Povrch, skrytost a ambivalence and namely how it addresses the manner in which the Baroque, Mannerism and avant-garde relate to one another. A characterisation of the American Baroque as such has been drafted and an attempt to capture the differences between the European Baroque has been made. The essayistic work of Alejo Carpentier is treated with an emphasis on the relationship of the (Neo)Baroque and magic realism. Carpentier wrongly attributes to the continent what he installs through his own optics without realising that such an approach might be itself described as being Baroque.
