Some mission societies since Lausanne 1974Pruitt, Harold Edward 23 May 2007 (has links)
This topic, "Some Mission Societies Since Lausanne 1974" is an examination of the impact of Lausanne 1974 on the Global Church through ParaChurch organizations. There is a Focus on DAWN as a Movement. The topic was chosen due to the fact that mission organization scholars from agencies such as the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, Dawn Ministries, YWAM, and A.D. 2000 consider Lausanne 1974 to be a watershed event in evangelical missions. Lausanne 1974 renewed evangelical vision of missions and gave new direction to mission organizations. This dissertation explores those claims. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Th (Missiology) Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology

Previous issue date: 2004-03-30 / In this research we investigated the women's protagonism in ministerial functions in
biblical texts like Rm. 16,1-16 and we commented about challenges faced by women
in Churches now a days, that disconsider their participation in the original Christian
communities. We evidenced the need of a historical reconstruction of women in cleric
positions, so today they can act in Churches with biblical back up. We identified in
this investigation that women's ministerial functions stayed occult along the times
because, a many times, the church did not make a critical reading of biblical texts,
disregarding its androcentric and patriarchal language. To come to this conclusion,
we divided this work in three chapters. In the first chapter, we presented a general
vision of Apostle Paul's missionary work and we also approached social-economic
aspects, Rome's politicians and religious people, trying to discover in what context of
the first century the women were inserted. In the second chapter, we developed an
exegesis of Rm. 16,1-16 through feminist hermeneutic to detect the ministerial
functions carried out by women, with the intention of clarify the androcentric readings
contrary to the full ministerial acting by women. In the third chapter, we made a
historical-creative reconstruction, discussing on the influence now a days biblical
texts cause in women's ministry when they are read outside their context.
contexto do primeiro século as mulheres estavam inseridas. No segundo,

Management of volunteers in faith-based organisationsClaassens, Elmien 12 January 2005 (has links)
In South Africa, government cannot take sole responsibility for meeting people’s basic physical, economic and psycho-social needs as well as addressing social issues. Collective responsibility and co-operation with organisations in civil society is strongly promoted by the South African government. In a media release from the Department of Social Development, it was said that Minister Skweyiya had been meeting with the religious sector since the year 2000, to discuss government's efforts at fighting poverty and exploring the partnership between government and the religious sector (Minister and Catholic Development and Welfare Agency work together to assist orphans and other vulnerable children, 2003). Government has committed itself to partnerships with various religious organisations of which the Catholic Development and Welfare Agency and the Dutch Reformed Church are examples. This study was an exploration of the management of volunteers within Lewende Woord Ministries Trust , a faith-based organisation (FBO) situated in Pretoria. The focus of the study was on current volunteers involved in Lewende Woord Ministries Trust. The organisation was established in February 1986. At first it functioned as a church organisation, looking only after the church members’ spiritual and physical needs, but later changed its operational structures to function as an FBO. Today the organisation greatly relies on volunteers for a variety of services, both in the congregation and the surrounding communities. The objectives of the study were to determine the dynamics of volunteerism in FBOs within a broader theoretical framework of volunteerism; to investigate volunteerism within the context of Lewende Woord Ministries Trust, with specific reference to the structure, functioning, activities, motivation, and the management of volunteers; and to provide guidelines for the management of volunteers in an FBO in order to achieve the goal of the study, namely to provide guidelines for the management of volunteers in an FBO. From the research findings, it became clear that to effectively manage volunteers in FBOs, there are key aspects that need to be taken into consideration, namely motivational factors, needs, recruitment, effective training and retainment of volunteers. The main recommendation of the study is that FBOs implement the proposed guidelines for the effective management of volunteers, in order to make the utilisation of volunteers more efficient. / Dissertation (MA (Social Work))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Social Work and Criminology / Unrestricted

The theophostic prayer ministry (TPM) : an exploration of its practices and healing possibilitiesCrous, Jacobus Jooste 06 1900 (has links)
As TPM warrants greater attention in the field of practical theology, this thesis is about the
further development of TPM, within Pastoral Theology as well as in its practices. This research
explored if more healing possibilities may emerge when TPM is epistemologically positioned in
social constructionism and has drawn attention to healing possibilities that narrative practices
may open up for TPM. To achieve this, a process of social construction was followed where the
narratives of participants' experiences of the practices of TPM were reflected upon.
The participants related how and why the practices of TPM influenced the way they narrated
their lives. According to their tales the main influencing factor was an authentic encounter with
God, where they experienced that He had experientially entered into a conversation with them
about the way they constructed their realities. By giving His perspective on their beliefs about
memories from their past, He helped them to start processes of reconstructing new preferred life
stories. The importance of the role of a faith community as well as that of significant others also
became evident.
An important contribution of this research is the emphasis that was put on the ‘not-knowing’
position of the facilitator. This is not an authentic TPM-term, but the way the facilitator's role is
described, in the TPM guidelines, is similar to what is understood by that term in social
constructionist therapy approaches. Throughout the research report I indicated the important role
of this position in the helpfulness of TPM. It became clear through the narratives that when the
facilitator's knowing entered the Theophostic process, the process was impeded.
Closely related to this ‘not-knowing’ position, is the ethical accountability of TPM. I indicated
how this position of the facilitator related to the participants' experiences of the facilitator not
being judgemental and being respected for who (s)he is. In judging the authenticity of changes
experienced by the recipients of TPM, I proposed a process of participatory ethics. / Practical Theology / Thesis (D.Th. (Pastoral Therapy)
