Structure Oriented Evaluation Model for E-Learning

Tudevdagva, Uranchimeg 21 July 2014 (has links)
Volume 14 of publication series EINGEBETTETE, SELBSTORGANISIERENDE SYSTEME is devoted to the structure oriented evaluation of e-learning. For future knowledge society, beside creation of intelligent technologies, adapted methods of knowledge transfer are required. In this context e-learning becomes a key technology for development of any education system. E-learning is a complex process into which many different groups with specific tasks and roles are included. The dynamics of an e-learning process requires adjusted quality management. For that corresponding evaluation methods are needed. In the present work, Dr.Tudevdagva develops a new evaluation approach for e-learning. The advantage of her method is that in contrast to linear evaluation methods no weight factors are needed and the logical goal structure of an elearning process can be involved into evaluation. Based on general measure theory structure oriented score calculation rules are derived. The so obtained score function satisfies the same calculation rules as they are known from normalised measures. In statistical generalisation, these rules allow the structure oriented calculation of empirical evaluation scores based on checklist data. By these scores the quality can be described by which an e-learning has reached its total goal. Moreover, a consistent evaluation of embedded partial processes of an e-learning becomes possibly. The presented score calculation rules are part of a eight step evaluation model which is illustrated by pilot samples. U. Tudevdagva’s structure oriented evaluation model (SURE model) is by its embedding into the general measure theory quite universal applicable. In similar manner, an evaluation of efficiency of administration or organisation processes becomes possible.

Modelo de avaliação do gerenciamento de resíduos de serviços de saúde (RSS) com uso de indicadores de desempenho: estudo de caso - Santa Casa de São Carlos-SP / Model of evaluation of healthcare waste using performance indicators: case of Santa Casa de São Carlos - SP

Ventura, Katia Sakihama 29 May 2009 (has links)
Healthcare Waste (HW) management has been focused to safer handling and to the guidelines given to workers of health establishment to obtain the correct procedures considering the legal requirements to ensure two main objectives: the segregation appropriate where the RSS are generated and minimization of incorrect disposal of waste within the establishment generator. São Carlos city produce about 20 tons per month of HW, whose 50% of HW comes from the most health establishment named Irmandade da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Carlos. Because of that, the hospital was chosen for studying. This paper proposes a model of evaluation to HW management in the health establishment using performance indicators. For this, it was structured to identify these indicators by qualitative data obtained from interviews realized with the hospital workers. Their answers were associated in a numeric scale e were inserted in Statistica program to effect factor analysis (FA). It was also prepared a script of interview especially containing 29 observation variables and applied to 98 health professionals from Santa Casa of São Carlos. Performance indicators were evaluated by experts to order these indicators by importance using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Besides that, it was composed a global index that permits to evaluate the analyzed general situation, in a scale from zero to one, pointing to the actions of improvement to this management. This paper was developed in order to elaborate a model of performance evaluation by qualitative indicators, promoting the efficient waste management process in health environment.

Desirability, Values and Ideology in CNN Travel -- Discourse Analysis on Travel Stories

Laine, Emmi January 2013 (has links)
Title: Values, Desirability and Ideology in CNN Travel -- a Discourse Analysis on Travel Stories Author: Emmi Laine Course: Journalistikvetenskap, Kandidatkurs, H13 J Kand (Bachelor of Journalism, Fall 2013), JMK, Stockholm University, Sweden Aim: The aim is to examine which values and ideologies CNN Travel fulfills in their stories. Method: Qualitative discourse analysis. Summary: This Bachelor ́s thesis asks what is desirable, which are the values of CNN Travel, the major U.S. news corporation CNN ́s online travel site. The question has been answered through a qualitative discourse analysis on 20 chosen travel stories, picked by their relevancy, diversity, and their expressive tone. Due to the limited space and the specific textual method, the analysis was restricted to the editorial texts of these stories. The chosen method was discourse analyst Norman Fairclough ́s model of evaluation, which revealed the explicit and implicit ways the media texts suggest desired characteristics. These linguistic devices took the readers ́ agreement for granted, as they imposed a shared cultural ground with common values, which is a base for a mutual understanding. After identifying the explicit and implicit evaluations, they were organized according to some major discursive themes found in the texts, and finally analyzed in order to expose their underlying values. The results showed how these certain values brought forth certain ideologies, to some extent in keeping with recent research of tourism and travel journalism. As the study has been put into a larger context of related research, the following pages will first explain some larger concepts of discourse analysis, such as representation, cultural stereotypes, ideology and power. A cross-section from older to more contemporary theories in culture studies has been utilized; moving from Edward Said ́s postcolonial classic Orientalism, an example of cultural stereotyping, to the more recent topics of ‘promotion culture’ and consumerism, and tourism researcher John Urry ́s ideas about the consumption of places and the ‘tourist gaze.’ In the end, the study considers what kind of power does travel journalism possess over the represented tourism destinations. Finally, when questioning the travel journalists ́ legitimacy and power to represent the travel destinations, poststructuralist Michel Foucault ́s theory about the ‘regime of truth,’ as well as Antonio Gramsci ́s ideas of ‘hegemony,’ theory of dominance through consent, were discussed and confirmed.

Enhancing Fairness in Facial Recognition: Balancing Datasets and Leveraging AI-Generated Imagery for Bias Mitigation : A Study on Mitigating Ethnic and Gender Bias in Public Surveillance Systems

Abbas, Rashad, Tesfagiorgish, William Issac January 2024 (has links)
Facial recognition technology has become a ubiquitous tool in security and personal identification. However, the rise of this technology has been accompanied by concerns over inherent biases, particularly regarding ethnic and gender. This thesis examines the extent of these biases by focusing on the influence of dataset imbalances in facial recognition algorithms. We employ a structured methodological approach that integrates AI-generated images to enhance dataset diversity, with the intent to balance representation across ethnics and genders. Using the ResNet and Vgg model, we conducted a series of controlled experiments that compare the performance impacts of balanced versus imbalanced datasets. Our analysis includes the use of confusion matrices and accuracy, precision, recall and F1-score metrics to critically assess the model’s performance. The results demonstrate how tailored augmentation of training datasets can mitigate bias, leading to more equitable outcomes in facial recognition technology. We present our findings with the aim of contributing to the ongoing dialogue regarding AI fairness and propose a framework for future research in the field.

A model for the evaluation of ABET programmes

Quan-Baffour, Kofi Poku. 11 1900 (has links)
This research project focuses on a model designed for the evaluation of ABET instructional programmes. In the light of rapid changes in the socio-economic and political contexts in Africa and particularly in South Africa, this study examines adult basic education and training, which has become acknowledged as an indispensable tool for the transformation and development of societies. Since 1994 education has become a constitutional right for all citizens of South Africa. In an attempt to offer basic education and training to all adults many institutions and departments have established ABET programmes offering adults the skills they may need in order to contribute to the development of their communities. The lack of guidelines for instructing, assessing and evaluating ABET programmes prompted the choice of research topic. The study begins with a review of relevant literature pertaining to the field of adult education and also provides a general discussion on didactics as it .is relevant to adult education. The study proposes a model for evaluating ABET instructional programmes. Focus group discussions are employed as a research tool to validate the proposed model and its accompanying guidelines. The study reveals that, for ABET instructional programmes to be outcomes based, relevant, conducive to critical thinking and creativity and productive of meaningful assessment, a model for evaluating the programmes' performance in these areas is essential. Based on this presupposition, the study proceeds to develop a model for the evaluation of ABET programmes. It draws on literature pertaining to educational evaluation in general and extrapolates the findings to construct a model appropriate for evaluating ABET programmes. In the field component of the study, endeavour is made to validate the model according to the perceptions of a sample of ABET practitioners. In-depth focus interviews are conducted to validify the various components of the model. In conclusion, the study recommends further research into the didactics of adult education and training (ABET) in order to improve adult education practices. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / D.
