Neo-realismo e poesia : do ideológico ao estético /

Gama, Chimena Barros da. January 2010 (has links)

The Study of America's Export Control toward China

Wu, Tsung-hsien 02 July 2007 (has links)
Analysis of the America¡¦s Export Controls toward China is based on theoretical framework that will explore the process of decision-making, transformation, strategy, and challenge of the America¡¦s export controls toward China. Since the Cold War, America adjusts her export controls towards China with two theoretical approaches: Neo-realism focuses on national security and Neo-liberalism focuses on economical benefits, while its export control towards China has been dictated by the transformation of her international and domestic political economic environments. Following the Cold War, instead of abolishing it¡¦s unilateral and multilateral export controls, and motivated by the 911 incident and its anti-terrorism policy, America further strengthens its export controls and appropriately adapts the rising China to become one of its major export control countries so to reach global governance. The flexible and waiting-for-opportunity characters of America¡¦s export controls bring about some vital implications to Taiwan¡¦s policy-making in issue-areas including cross-strait relations, defense policy, and foreign relations.

Popkulturní podoba neošamanismu / Popcultural form of neo-shamanism

Nesládková, Tereza Unknown Date (has links)
The central theme of my final thesis is contemporary secular spirituality. I am interested in the correlation between the general mood in the globalized society of the Euro-American world and the specific way of dealing with spirituality and mysticism. I assume that, as a result of the widespread feeling of insecurity, the desire to achieve the illusion of community and the need for an excess of order is a fundamental characteristic of our time. It is determined by a highly individualistic regime of contemporaneity, a time of excess spectacles, cynical indifference to reality and illusion. It is a time when visions are lacking and when goods and interpersonal relationships have a short lifespan. The formal form of this neo-spirituality in the context of pop culture also has a defining and telling value for me.

"A Dish Best Served Cold": Revenge Plots in Neo-Noir Narratives

Barnswell, Evan 01 January 2016 (has links)
In this paper, I trace the theme of revenge across Drive (Refn, 2011) and John Wick (Leitch and Stahelski, 2014). Professor von Hallberg helped me understand these films as vehicles for understanding certain ideas. Throughout the semester I consulted the work of several literary critics to arrive at a better sense of what neo-noir is and to better understand the world of these films. Through close analysis of specific scenes, I hoped to determine what I would learn about vengeance if I lived in the world that these characters inhabit. After watching and re-watching both films several times, I went through scene by scene and observed the details that stood out to me the most. I related these to the literature I had read and suggested what each detail might mean before drawing any conclusions. Once I had completed the core analysis, I reviewed these observations and synthesized them into general claims. I affirmed that revenge was closely related to von Hallberg’s notion of “trust” as a “horizon of hope” (von Hallberg 2). In the end, it was apparent that in punishing those responsible, the protagonists of these films committed to destroying any and all “obstacles to the [re]construction of trust” (von Hallberg 5). Both protagonists are portrayed as avengers who are driven toward the destruction of “the fakery and greed of those around them” (von Hallberg 36). In these films, to extract revenge is to punish the “corrupt[t] [and] [re]buil[d] [in] a world governed by self-interest” (von Hallberg 36).

Olsson, Andreas January 2010 (has links)

Abstract

The actions of Sweden during the second world war has been richly discussed over the years. Sweden declared itself neutral in the war between the great powers but did not manage to maintain its neutrality. The nature of neutrality has often been discussed; whether it is of a idealistic or more pragmatic nature. Realism, a theory of international relations, would argue that it is of a more pragmatic nature, hence these two are in opposition. Realism also takes credit in claiming to explain how and why a state chooses to act in a situation.

The aim of this essay was to, by examining specific decisions made by the swedish government during the Second World War, come to a conclusion whether or not Sweden’s proclaimed neutrality was of idealistic or pragmatic nature, and thereby possibly coming to a conclusion about neutrality in large.

It was also to examine the worth of realism as an explanatory theory by applying it to this specific case; to examine its validity.

The study was conducted using a qualitative method; presenting empiric facts and then by using a decision model interpreting the actions and results from a realist perspective.

The study concludes that realism has explanatory power, although not a complete one. The evidence, concerning the neutrality matter, points to that neutrality should be considered as being of a more pragmatic nature.

Keywords: Second world war, international relations, realism, neutrality

The Institutionalization of Restorative Justice: A Canadian Perspective

Broughton, Christopher M. 26 July 2012 (has links)
Restorative justice emerged in the western world as an alternative to the existing retributive penal system. An alternative that no longer relied on lawyers and judges to resolve criminal matters and community disputes, but rather empowered victims, offenders, and community members to do justice themselves. Throughout the past thirty years restorative justice has distanced itself from the traditional criminal justice system by focusing on repairing the harm caused by an offence rather than charging an offender for committing a crime against the state. This study focuses on the institutionalization of restorative justice. Specifically, this thesis conducts a content analysis of five Canada institutionalized restorative justice programs with the purpose of answering one primary research question. This question asks: are institutionalized restorative justice programs within Canada structured to reflect the core values of restorative justice? In order to answer this question, this thesis analyzes all the available textual documents pertaining to the five selected restorative justice programs for evidence of core restorative justice values and values associated with the co-opting institution, the retributive criminal justice system. This thesis concludes that yes, the five analyzed restorative programs are structured to reflect the core values of restorative justice. Although, the programs are also structured to reflect the core values of the current political ideology of neo-liberalism.

Ludwig Erhard's German Neo-Liberalism

Walter, John P. 05 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine the major causes of German revival as well as reasons for their radical changes from Postwar Socialism to the acceptance of a basically free market economy, and also to determine the effects of neo-liberalism on the rapid recovery.
