Exchanging Information: District Office Interactions in Illinois

McEvilly, Kyle 01 May 2012 (has links)
With a dearth of research involving district office relationships, this analysis seeks to explore both what district office relationships look like and why they develop. Data from personal interviews with district office personnel in Illinois suggest three categories that describe these office interactions: closely connected, remotely connected, and organically connected. The findings from this project lay the foundation for understanding the importance of district office relationships as they pertain to representative democracy in the United States.

An evangelical analysis and critique of feminist Christology

Carter, Micah Daniel 12 December 2008 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the person and work of Christ in feminist theology, with particular attention to feminist critiques of traditional Christology. Chapter 1 is a brief introduction of the dissertation's thesis and the methodological commitments from which the dissertation proceeds. Chapter 2 provides an investigation and analysis of feminist theological method. Special attention is given to the influential work of Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza and Rosemary Radford Ruether. The sources and norms of feminist theology are considered also. Chapter 2 concludes with a discussion of the importance of feminist theological methodology for feminist Christology. Chapter 3 analyzes the person of Christ in feminist theology. Particular consideration is given to feminist arguments against the maleness of Jesus, as well as their alternative proposals to make Christology more inclusive of women. The chapter also offers a sustained evangelical response to the feminist ideas regarding Christ's person. Chapter 4 examines the work of Christ in feminist theology. The feminist contention that the cross is "divine child abuse" is addressed. Feminist assessment of classical atonement theories and alternative perspectives for understanding atonement are discussed. The chapter also challenges and answers the feminist allegation that traditional atonement theology grounds the perpetuation of violence and abuse. Chapter 5 assesses the influence of feminist criticisms within evangelicalism, especially among egalitarians. The chapter demonstrates egalitarian doctrinal revisions on the basis of an acceptance of feminist criticisms in the theological loci of theology proper, bibliology, and ecclesiology. Finally, emerging Christological revisions are considered, specifically related to the egalitarian resistance to the maleness of Jesus and also to a penal substitutionary understanding of atonement. Chapter 5 concludes that feminist criticisms are unacceptable for evangelical Christological formulation. Chapter 6 concludes the dissertation with a brief summary of feminist Christology and evangelical responses, and offers recommendations for further study in this and related areas. / This item is only available to students and faculty of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. / Ergonomics is an area of knowledge that has as one of its main objectives the analysis of work situations in order to set parameters and proposed changes that allow the confort, safety and work efficiency. Thus designs and or adapting work situations consistent with the capabilities an limitations of man. Among the several criteria that describe the ergonomic analysis of work lilghting and environmental conditions, affecting the health and efficiency of workers, including impacting on productivity. In this light this paper presents a case study through the evaluation of the lighting conditions of work spaces in four rooms of the headquarters of a company reflorestation, inserted in the urban context o a medium sized city in Minas Gerais. The methods used were based on observations, measurements of the illumination, and the use of questionnaires. The lighting parameters were applied in four different rooms in size, distribution of lamps and number of usrs. Through quantitative data, there was a relation ship between the iluminance values of real rooms, he conditions under which they are used with the values shown and suggested in the standarts. The qualitative assessment took in to account the interaction betwenn the user and an illuminated environment, and in that sense, good viewing condition for the proper performance of tasks. With the data and results discussed, we intend to contribute to the improvement of working conditions and design of the built environment with consequent increased efficiency of subsidizing workers a approach that focuses on real context and build a diagram of relationships between variables that serve as basis for further studies addressing the discussion of the effectiveness of the lighting... The Suburbanization of Offices: A Canadian Example

Blake, Christine D. 04 1900 (has links)

The emergence of the office sector as the largest sector in the Canadian economy has attracted increasing amounts of attention in academic literature. Recently, offices have followed the trends of residential, industrial and retail activity and have chosen to locate in the suburbs of metropolitan areas. North York is a typical example of a suburb where the office sector is growing faster than the offices in the metropolitan CBD. This research paper examines the sectoral growth of office employment in the central areas of North York and the City of Toronto. The research concludes that Metropolitan Toronto exhibits the selective decentralization of offices, that is, the suburbanization of low order, routine office functions to the suburbs leaving a CBD dominated by high order, decision-making office functions. The paper also examines the possible physical and social implications of the suburbanization of offices and the associated planning implications.
/ Thesis / Candidate in Philosophy

Audit Office Closure Risk and Audit Outcomes

DiYorio, Jonathan Gabriel 01 May 2023 (has links)
This study aims to better understand factors associated with audit office closures and how the risk of office closure relates to audit outcomes, including audit quality and fees. Factors associated with office closure include small office size, lower office growth, proximity to regulators, unfavorable local economic changes, client losses, and lack of recent local office closures. The main analysis does not find evidence of a relationship between closure risk and audit quality but suggests that offices with a higher closure risk charge higher audit fees per client compared to offices with lower closure risk. Results also suggest that clients who change audit firms following closure of their auditor's office enjoy higher quality and lower fees compared to those clients who change offices but remain with the same firm following closure. These audit quality results cannot be explained by clients switching to Big 4 auditors, industry specialists, or to more geographically proximate offices. Instead, these results suggest a fresh look benefit by the new audit firm. Additionally, the audit fee discount enjoyed by these clients diminishes over time as the fees for these clients increase more quickly than for those clients that change offices following closure. / Doctor of Philosophy / This study aims to better understand factors associated with audit firm office closures and how the risk of closure for non-closed offices relates to audit outcomes, including audit quality and fees. Coworking – När är det fördelaktigt? : En jämförelse mellan coworking och traditionella kontor / Coworking – When is it beneficial?

Johansson, Måns, Strömberg, Malin January 2019 (has links)
During the past years the demand for flexible office spaces on the Swedish office market has increased, which has cleared a path for a new concept – coworking. The concept, which shares some similarities with office hotels, is based on the philosophy that capital goods and services should be shared amongst parties. Due to the concept’s recent development on the Swedish market, there is a lack of studies from the tenant’s perspective. Throughout this essay we have used a qualitative research approach, where seven semi structured interviews have been carried out in order to answer the main question: When is it beneficial for the tenant to choose coworking? When renting a traditional office space, the contracts are regulated by 12th chapter in Jordabalken. However, these rental agreements are often written over three years and includes a specific period of notice when the contract is terminated. Coworking is a concept which tries to find the golden path for companies that do not have the possibility to sign long contracts. The conclusion states that it can be more profitable for smaller expanding companies to choose coworking over traditional office space. This is primarily due to expanding company’s requirement of flexibility, following difficulties regarding their ability to predict future office needs. Furthermore, the concept can be more suitable for companies with a lot of consultants, because the time spent in the office is decreasing. For smaller companies, coworking can also be sustainable both economically and ecologically. However, some companies that are working under legal secrecy might not be suitable to sit in coworking areas. The study has generated questions regarding whether coworking-agreement should be classified as a rental agreement or a membership, which should be researched further.
