Finalmente buscamos traçar relações entre os aspectos retórico-musicais e a utilização do oboé obbligato nas árias sacras com os afetos da confiança e do temor / Abstract: This work aims at investigating, from a rhetoric point of view, the use of the oboe, oboe d'Amore and oboe da Caccia in the sacred arias of Johann Sebastian Bach cantatas. For this, we started our study from the Protestant Reform Movement, its origins and bases and its great influence in the music. Treating the different periods of Bach's life, we tried to gather all of his arias composed for the oboe, with special emphasis in the arias composed for an obbligato instrument. We also evaluated the great importance of the doctrines of Musica Poetica and of life rhetorics to the musical German thought. We also evaluated how these doctrines influenced Bach's compositions. Finally, we tried to trace the relationships between the rethorical musical aspects and the use of the obbligato oboe in the sacred arias with the affects of trust and fear / Mestrado / Mestre em Música

A Stylistic Analysis of Charles Martin Loeffler's Deux Rapsodies for Oboe, Viola and Piano, L'étang and La cornemuse, After Poems by Maurice Rollinat: A Lecture Recital, Together with Three Recitals of Selected Works by E. Rubbra, D. Beaty, B. Britten, W.A. Mozart, and Others

Goodall, John W. (John Williams) 08 1900 (has links)
At the turn of this century, Charles Martin Loeffler (1861-1935) was considered to be among the finest of the handful of well-known American composers of the time. His music was often performed by major symphony orchestras, chamber groups and solo artists. Deux rapsodies for Oboe, Viola and Piano: L'Etang and La Cornemuse, after poems by Maurice Rollinat (1846-1903), show Loeffler's affinity for programmatic concepts. These works, completed in 1901, are revisions of settings of 1898 for low voice, clarinet, viola and piano, and are now, unfortunately, out of print; but the oboe, viola and piano setting has been published (originally as Deux rapsodies by G. Schirmer, 1905; the latest edition, Two Rhapsodies, is by McGinnis and Marx, N.Y., 1979) and recorded several times. Loeffler has reflected Rollinat's poetry in his settings by means of melodic, rhythmic and harmonic devices unique to his style. Formal and articulative devices also tend to point to his dependence on the poetry as a source of inspiration and as means for defining the final musical product. Indeed, the music seems incapable of existence independent of its source in the richly imagistic poetry of Rollinat.

Om oboeelevers motivation : En intervjustudie om oboelärares erfarenheter kring elevernas motivation / About oboe students motivation : An interview study about oboe techers’ experiences of students’ motivation

Asplund, Sanna January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to find out what oboe teachers in the community school of music and art have for experiences around their students' motivation to play oboe. The background chapter presents a description of the instrument oboe followed by a description of the growth the community school of music and art in Sweden during the 20th century and a brief description of motivation theories throughout history. Previous research that is presented concerns studies on students' motivation to play musical instruments and the student's social relations' significance for motivation. Motivation theories used are Maslow's ladder of needs as well as external and internal motivation. The study has an interpretivist theory of knowledge and through the phenomenological perspective the concepts of life world and intersubjectivity are used. The research method is semi-structured interviews with four oboe teachers who work at the community school of music and art in Sweden. The interviews were analyzed using a thematic analysis method. The results present four different areas that the oboe teachers experience affect their students' motivation; why students are motivated to play oboe and why students lose motivation, the oboe's specific conditions, materials and elements used in teaching and the importance of social relations for the student's motivation. Finally, a discussion is presented between the results and the previously mentioned research, theories and literature.

Att öva utanför övningsrummet : En musikanalys av Richard Strauss konsert för oboe och liten orkester

Sjögren, Victor January 2020 (has links)
<p>Medverkande:</p><p>Victor Sjögren, Oboe</p><p>Asuka Nakamura, Piano</p>

A Study of the Oboe Concertos of Johann Friedrich Fasch with a Performing Edition of Oboe Concerto in G Major (Küntzel 8) : A Lecture Recital Together with Three Other Recitals of Selected Works of Handel, Mozart, Bellini, Poulenc, Britten and Others

Manning, Dwight C. (Dwight Carroll) 05 1900 (has links)
Johann Friedrich Fasch's music displays a stylistic variability characteristic among some composers of the early eighteenth century, a time in which the mature Baroque style period of Western art music was beginning to show new elements of the Classical style. Opinions regarding Fasch's contribution vary from praise for his role as one of the most important pioneers to simple acknowledgment as merely one among many significant, forward-looking, transitional composers. During the early eighteenth century, a wealth of fine literature for solo oboe was produced. Current oboe repertoire includes many standard, mature Baroque concertos of the early eighteenth century; few works representative of evolutionary compositions hinting toward the development of a new historical style period are available. The primary purpose of the lecture recital is to introduce to the oboe repertoire an edition of a concerto by Fasch, one representative of the transition from Baroque to Classical eras.

Pedagogical Insights to Successful English Horn Performance: A Guide for College-Level Oboists

Behmer, Cynthia Lynn January 2011 (has links)
The English horn has persevered as a popular solo instrument by the many composers who have written for it since its inception as a member of the oboe family at the Court of Louis XIV in the seventeenth century. While modern English horn popularity and performance practice continues to flourish through new literature, master classes, and recordings, a review of the existing literature reveals that there is a need for an informative guide for advanced, college-level oboists who wish to begin doubling on the English horn. The present study is intended to serve as a comprehensive resource for the novice English hornist who seeks pedagogical advice on the development of specialized performance techniques, along with a discussion on the significant differences between the oboe and English horn, specialized English horn reed makingtools and supplies, and procedures for making and finishing long-scrape English horn reeds. Additionally, this study includes a brief history of the English horn and a discography of selected English horn recordings. Finally, a discussion of selected etudes from A.M.R. Barret's Forty Progressive Melodies and W. Ferling's 48 Famous Studies and correlating symphonic English horn excerpts concludes the study.

The Nineteenth Century Oboe Concertino: An Overview of its Structure with Two Performance Guides

Murray, Lauren Baker 08 1900 (has links)
Music written for oboe and orchestra in the nineteenth century falls into three categories: Classical Concerto, Opera Fantasy, and Concertino. The classical, or standard, three movement, sonata-ritornello format was only sparingly used. Instead, composers chose more the experimental forms of the Opera Fantasy and Concertino. The Opera Fantasy was used as a way for oboe players to play popular opera arias of the time, while showcasing their virtuosity and expression. It is in the Concertino where composers expanded the oboe repertoire to its highest form in the nineteenth century, experimenting with structure, and using the oboe to the height of its expressive powers. In addition to discussion on the Concertino in general, performance guides have been provided for two concertinos, Concertino for Oboe and Winds, by Carl Maria von Weber and Concertino for Oboe and Orchestra, Op. 18, by August Klughardt. Information is provided regarding composer biography, compositional/historical perspective, technical and stylistic considerations, and structure. By examining the two very different pieces, one from the beginning of the nineteenth century and one from the end, the evolution of the Concertino can be seen, as well as gaining an understanding of the wide variety of repertoire written for the oboe in the nineteenth century.
