Till Nynäshamns största utmaningar räknas deras utbildningsnivå, som är en av Sveriges sämsta. Få studerar vidare och kommunens arbetskraft tycks bli mer missanpassad efter kommunens behov. Därtill verkar även deras företagsklimat utgöra ett bekymmer. Det beskrivs som begränsande, vilket är extra alarmerande sett till att majoriteten av kommunens skatteintäckter härstammar från deras småföretagare. Bland dessa upplever två tredjedelar att företagsklimatet är dåligt och 25% överväger därför att flytta sin verksamhet från kommunen. En rapport har tagits fram för att utvärdera hur Nynäshamn skulle kunna göra för att hantera problemet. Svaret är ett näringslivs- och innovationscenter, som innehåller co-working, Campus Nynäshamn och småskalig kulturverksamhet. Denna hybrid utgör mitt projekt. Parallellt har Nynäshamn ett annat problem. Staden, döpt efter sin hamn, har en bred och vacker vattenlinje, som är helt dominerad av bilar, stora fartyg och parkeringar. Precis bakom axeln från stad till hamn vill jag därför placera en barriär mot bilarna och skapa ett torg bland den småskaliga fiskhandeln och restaurangverksamheterna och således ta vattnet till folket - staden till vattnet. Hus för folket blir alltså också ett torg för folket, precis vid pendelstationen. / Among Nynäshamn's biggest challenges, their educational level stands out as one of the worst in Sweden. Few people pursue further education, and the municipality's workforce seems to become increasingly mismatched with the municipality's needs. Additionally, their business climate also poses a concern. It is described as restrictive, which is particularly alarming considering that the majority of the municipality's tax revenues come from small business owners. Among these, two-thirds perceive the business climate as poor, and 25% are therefore considering relocating their businesses from the municipality. A report has been developed to evaluate how Nynäshamn could address the problem. The answer is a business and innovation center, which includes co-working spaces, Campus Nynäshamn, and small-scale cultural activities. This hybrid represents my project. Simultaneously, Nynäshamn has another problem. The city, named after its port, has a wide and beautiful waterfront that is completely dominated by cars, large ships, and parking lots. Right behind the axis from the city to the port, I want to create a barrier against cars and establish a square among the small-scale fish trade and restaurant activities, thus bringing the water closer to the people - the city to the water. Therefore, the buildings for the people will also become a square for the people, right next to the commuter station.

This research was intended to investigate the perceptions of firearm policies and the views held by campus security personnel regarding student or teacher carry on campus. The purpose of the interviews was to investigate campus security officer’s perceptions and how they differ based upon individual belief systems. The goal, therefore, was to understand how their perspectives on campus carry could impact interactions with students and faculty. Exploring a representative sample of current firearm policies, both on and off campus, established a framework that exposed the opinions of campus security personnel and gave some insight into the potential impact that might occur from implementing various policies. As a result, the coverage of these materials was pivotal regarding firearm policy and to show how unique perspectives can develop and create a better understanding of campus policing. This was especially true given the dearth of research into violence on campuses and the perspective of individuals that are tasked with the protection of the institutes.

Sustainable Development in Swedish and Canadian Campus Plans / Hållbar utveckling i Svenska och Kanadensiska campusplanerErsöz, Timur January 2018 (has links)
The concept of sustainable development being integrated into strategic spatial plans has increased in recent years. University campus plans are examples of such spatial plans, and these form the focus of this study. Sustainable development is a contested concept that lacks clarity and specific guidelines, which has led to various interpretations of the concept around the world. Campus plans in the present are not perfect regarding the implementation of sustainable development on campus. Three Canadian and three Swedish campus plans have been evaluated through content analysis in order to determine the sustainable aspects that were brought up. Furthermore, neighborhood assessment and certification systems were used to identify the sustainability aspects needed in a community. The campus plans differ from each other with regard to the sustainability aspects included and how these were addressed. The campus plans include strategies on how to address the sustainability aspects. The results show different understandings of sustainable development in campuses in the two nations. The major differences between the campus plans were that the Swedish campus plans brought up ecological aspects such as green structure and climate adaptation which were lacking in the Canadian campus plans. The Canadian campus plans on the other hand focused more on the social and the economic dimensions of sustainable development. There were also differences between the campus plans within the same nation. The different strategies between the campus plans can be used to complement each other. The shared knowledge and experience between these plans can help to improve the interpretation of sustainable development in campus plans. We can learn from the pros and cons of the different campus plans in order to enhance and improve the strategies to achieve sustainability in future campuses. The criteria from neighborhood assessment tools also help with developing campus plans and improving strategies which enable sustainable development. / Hållbar utveckling är ett begrepp som alltmer har integrerats i strategiska regionsplaner under senare år. Universitetscampus/områden är exempel på sådana regionsplaner, och universitetscampus kommer att utgöra fokus i den här studien. Hållbar utveckling är ett ifrågasatt koncept som saknar tydliga och specifika riktlinjer, vilket har lett till olika tolkningar av begreppet runtom i världen. Campusplaner idag är inte perfekta när det gäller genomförandet av hållbar utveckling på campus. Tre kanadensiska och tre svenska campusplaner har utvärderats genom en innehållsanalys, med syfte att fastställa vilka hållbarhetsaspekter som har tagits i beaktande i de olika planerna. Dessutom, har certifieringssystem använts för att identifiera de hållbarhetsaspekter som behövs i ett samhälle. Campusplanerna skiljer sig från varandra beträffande vilka hållbarhetsaspekter som har inkluderats samt hur dessa har behandlats. Campusplanerna innehåller strategier vilket beskriver hur aspekterna ska behandlas. Resultaten visar på en skillnad i förståelsen av hållbar utveckling av campusplanerna i de två länderna. De huvudsakliga skillnaderna mellan campusplanerna är att de svenska campusplanerna tar fasta på ekologiska aspekter, som en grön struktur och miljöanpassning, vilket saknas i de kanadensiska campusplanerna. De kanadensiska campusplanerna å andra sidan fokuserar mer på de sociala och ekonomiska dimensionerna av hållbar utveckling. Dessutom finns det skillnader mellan campusplanerna inom samma land. Left in the dark: University of Central Florida students' perception of safety on campusKrauss, Amber 01 May 2013 (has links)
The last few years a struggle of feeling safe has become more of an issue with all the tragedies that have taken place on college campuses throughout the years. Tragedies like Columbine then Virginia Tech and most recently the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. This research focuses on student's perception of safety and the issues with violence on campus. The question is how the students, faculty, and staff will react if an incident like this occurs on the University of Central Florida campus. The intent of this thesis was to explore the student body of UCF students and their perception of safety on campus. Students were questioned on previous victimization and campus related crime. Findings suggest that women overall are more fearful on campus compared to men. Sadly, only about 5.6 percent of my sample knew about the Clery Act. This act states all public schools must post all crimes committed on or near campus on a public website. This was questioned with a simple yes or no answer. By conducting this study I hope to find a better understanding on how UCF student's view safety on campus.

Catholic women in campus ministry: an emerging ministry for women in the Catholic ChurchKelley, Ann Elizabeth January 1975 (has links)
This dissertation studies one of the new ministries for women in
the Catholic Church that developed after the Second Vatican Council. It
is a historical, critical, descriptive, and evaluative study. While professional
roles for women in the Church had become limited and privatized
through the centuries, there are precedents in the early Church and even
in the Middle Ages for more public and official roles for women. Vatican
II renewed and broadened the definitions of "minister" and of "ministry"
and called upon all Christians to participate actively in the work of the
Church. We have sought to discover the degree. to which women have been
able to achieve a professional ministerial role for themselves in campus
ministry. Many primary sources were available to answer this question,
the most important being the testimony of the women themselves.
One chapter of the dissertation traces the history of women's roles
in the Catholic Church. Another follows the history of Catholic campus
ministry and shows why this was a ministry open to women more than many
others in the Church. A third chapter traces the efforts of women in
the American Catholic Church as a whole as they made a transition from
being assistants of priest chaplains to chaplains themselves, a movement requiring
changes in concepts of ministry and of minister held by the
women themselves as well as those held by their colleagues and constituencies.
The women, numbering nearly three hundred by 1972 were able,
within limits, to win the title chaplain, to prove their value as
ministers in individual situations, and to increase their own self-confidence
as ministers. Their experiences give insights into job
descriptions, models, procedures, and criteria that have developed over
a twelve-year period. The fourth, and longest, chapter is in effect a
case study of the larger movement as it developed in the Archdiocese of
Boston. This diocese was chosen as a case study because of its comprehensive
and varied academic community and because of the representative
character of the 18 women chaplains who have served within its boundaries.
Conclusions of the study are:
1. Since 1962 campus ministry has provided a situation in which
Catholic women have been able to realize a ministerial identity
and reveal the potentialities of women as ministers.
2. Experiences of the women have varied from very positive to very
negative. Factors contributing to negative experiences were:
a. Women, denied the sacramental-cultic forms of ministry,
are marginal to a ministry that has itself been marginal
to both the Church and the university.
b. Catholic ministry was so identified with priestly functions
that women had no models to follow.
c. The changes in attitudes and practices in the Catholic
Church after Vatican II often left the women anxious and
without adequate support systems.
Factors contributing to positive experiences were:
a. The personal character of the individual woman.
b. Effective team-work situations.
c. Support from Church officials, colleagues, and
religious communities.
3. Issues related to the positive or negative experiences of women
are a woman's feminist consciousness, the attitudes of people
toward women as public ministers, and the question of ordination
of women in the Catholic Church.
4. Even when and where women are accepted and find success as campus
ministers, two other problems arise: the relationship of women
religious to their communities, and the prejudices lay women
encounter.
The broad significance of the experience of these women lies in the
way attention has been called to women's capacities, when given a chance,
to exercise ministry and to their unequal position in the Church. A
direction has been set by women campus ministers that will not easily be
reversed. These women may be creating models that recall the origins of
Christian ministry as well as suggest its future.
