robotron-Kantine Dresden 2023: Fotografische ErkundungenVolkmann, Louis 04 April 2024 (has links)

Transition to Carbon-Neutral Campuses : Scenario Evaluation and Selection Including Human-Centric PerspectiveShi, Zhirong January 2024 (has links)
The urgent need to combat climate change is increasingly being recognized. The Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming, requires carbon neutrality to be achieved by the mid-21st century. Further, the energy crisis in Europe that started in 2021 highlights the importance of energy security. Universities play a crucial role in promoting the transition to neutrality. This study aims to increase universities' electricity independence to further facilitate their transition to carbon neutrality. To this end, a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) method was adopted to select scenarios for increasing a campus building complex's electricity independence, considering various stakeholders' interests together with the scenarios' performances on technical, environmental, economic, and social criteria. The findings show that photovoltaic technology, despite its perceived environmental benefits, performs poorly in reducing carbon emissions when considering lifecycle emissions, particularly in countries with low-carbon electricity like Sweden. Conversely, energy conservation through behavioral changes emerges as the optimal scenario for Campus Gotland due to its economic and environmental advantages. These results challenge the common reliance on energy production technology for carbon neutrality, highlighting the greater effectiveness of demand-side measures. This work suggests that universities need a more human-centric approach to transitioning to carbon neutrality. In a broader context, this study provides universities with insights to make informed decisions to achieve carbon neutrality, emphasizing the need to consider all stakeholders. By offering a comprehensive assessment and analysis of various scenarios, this work enhances the understanding of best practices for universities aiming to lead in the global effort against climate change.

Study Abroad and Student-Athlete ChoiceO'Neil, Chaunte' LaJoyce 05 1900 (has links)
The focus of this case study was a study abroad program for student-athletes at a high academically achieving, small liberal arts college in the mid-west region of the United States. The program is designed to maintain a culture of internationalism and multiculturalism by exposing as many student-athletes as possible to study abroad.
I reviewed literature to extract an appropriate theoretical framework along with variables that aligned with the purpose of the study; structural and organizational characteristics of the institution, student's background and pre-college traits, interaction with agents of socialization and institutional environment, and quality of effort. I used the semi-structured interview process to interview 9 senior student-athletes (3 female, 6 male; 7 White, 1 African American/White, 1 Chilean/White) who participated in study abroad during the 2015-2016 academic school year at the researched institution and to interview 5 administrators who facilitate the athletic department at the institution.
I found that certain critical elements emerged as necessary to create and maintain a study abroad program geared specifically to the needs of the student-athlete population. I also found strong implications for adaptable elements that could generate opportunities for student-athletes to study abroad at a higher rate. These elements serve as a recommended framework and set of initial guidelines for student-athletes and athletic departments nationwide.

Television as an evangelistic toolWeston, Owen Charles 06 1900 (has links)
This thesis is the study of televangelism contextualized within the country of
Romania. It seeks to answer six main questions: I} When the Lord Jesus gave
Christendom the global, Gospel mandate, he forced his disciples into a two thousand year
struggle with, not only the message, but how to spread this message. Is the Gospel
message so powerful that it will penetrate through any method of delivery? Can a former
communist country be evangelized through television?
2) The next question asked in this thesis: is the message in and of itself, when conveyed
through this media, sufficient to accomplish its goals? Does the media encourage the
recipient to fulfill the desires of the message? What about Mass Communication Theory
which espouses that television is more likely to reinforce then transform a viewer's belief?
3) The third question wrestled with: would the former communistic country of Romania,
when turning to the ideals of the West, receive the Gospel message with greater or lesser
significance through the media of television, or would other forms of communication be
more desirable? Would television, in comparison to Crusade or Film Evangelism, be a
more ideal media for the Gospel at this juncture in Romania's history?
4) Television allows large audiences to be reached with staggering efficiency, but does the
medium itself impose limits on the kind of evangelism that can be done? What type of
church grows out of an electronic medium? Would television gather a church "unto
itself?"
5) In fulfilling the great commission, many organizations and mission groups have arisen
with the desire to carry the Gospel message to the ends of the earth with whatever means
available, including CBN, who uses television. Can television reach the masses, including
the poor, in Eastern block countries?
6) The final question addressed in this research: what are the long term effects of
televangelism in this former communistic country? Would a one time television program,
given in one week, yield results that can be determined two years later?
These questions were not only wrestled with, but conclusions were drawn to make
evangelism and particularly televangelism more efficacious. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / Th. D. (Practical Theology)

Enhancing lecturing staff morale at a technical and vocational education and training college in Newcastle, KwaZulu- NatalRampersadh, Satish Harilal 06 1900 (has links)
The study was conducted to determine strategies that could be used by relevant managers and authorities in promoting the morale of lecturers at a TVET College, in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. A qualitative research design and methodology was used to gather data from semi-structured interviews with the participants by means of two focus groups of six lecturers each and face to face interviews with the three programme managers. Purposive sampling was used to select the lecturers from the two engineering campuses of the sampled college. Data were constantly compared and analysed using the constant comparative analysis of data.
The study found that aspects that contribute to low morale exceed those for high morale in the sampled college. Therefore, by studying the results obtained from the data, it can be deduced that lecturers at the College are not content with the current working conditions and the senior management style of the college.
It is the duty of managers to consider the holistic welfare of employees. This is necessary for the creation of a suitable workplace for all staff of the college. To achieve this, supervisors and lecturers need to know what aspects influence staff morale. Henceforth, this study focused on effective strategies and recommendations that could be implemented to promote the morale of lecturers at the college. / Educational Management and Leadership / M. [pt] GERENCIAMENTO DE EMISSÕES DE GASES DE EFEITO ESTUFA DO CAMPUS GÁVEA DA PUC-RIO: INVENTÁRIO DE EMISSÕES E PROPOSTA DE MITIGAÇÃO / [en] GREENHOUSE GASES EMISSIONS MANAGEMENT OF PUC-RIO, GÁVEA CAMPUS: INVENTORY OF EMISSIONS AND A PROPOSAL FOR MITIGATION03 November 2021 (has links)
emissões diretas e indiretas do Campus. O estudo ainda indica ações para melhorar a qualidade de inventários futuros e medidas para a redução das emissões. / [en] Climate change has been considered by the scientific community as the most serious environmental problem ever faced by humanity. The studies performed, even with uncertainties, indicate a strong relationship between human actions, global warming and consequent climate change. Hotter summers, colder winters, severe droughts and floods, tornadoes, desertification, water and food scarcity and biodiversity loss are some examples of the impacts caused by this imbalance. The mitigation or
control of a problem with this magnitude deserves undoubtedly attention of governments and companies responsible for the large emissions of greenhouse gases, considered as responsible for the climate change.
However, other sectors can and should contribute to the achievement of the global targets set by international agreements. Regarding the uncertainties and expectations on climate change, in 1988 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), consisted of scientists from around the world, was created to provide information related to the causes of climate change, its consequences and possible
actions to reduce the impact on the earth. IPCC reports are published regularly and become a reference for the formulation of public policies and for use by experts and students. The IPCC in its 4th Assessment Report, indicates a 70 percent increase in anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases in the period 1970-2004, where the carbon dioxide (CO2) is the largest contributor. For the same period, CO2 annual emissions increased 80 percent and represented 77 percent of total anthropogenic emissions in 2004. This increase is mainly due to the consumption of fossil fuels and changes in land use. Once established the relationship between greenhouse gases and global warming, it became evident the need for measurement and quantification of emissions for achieving any progress in the management of the problem. For that, a common, standardized, transparent and reliable methodology was desired. Developed in the United States by the World Resource Institute (WRI) in 2001, the GHG Protocol seeks to understand, quantify and manage GHG emissions of companies and nowadays is the most frequently method used worldwide for performing GHG inventories. It is also compatible with standard ISO 14064: 2007 - Greenhouse Gases and the methodologies for quantification issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
