No. of bitstreams: 1 Barbara Tancetti.pdf: 2299574 bytes, checksum: fcc2838cb3e3b8cb2180d4696be8de1b (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-03-09 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / The motivation for this study derives from the reflections instigated by Virginia Woolf's "A Roof of One's Own," written in the 1920s, and by the time we live in, when the position of women in society and even feminist discourses are being rethought and debated by the academia and by the media. In the context of artistic productions and in particular of cinematographic works, women and their productions were historically and socially excluded or relegated to marginal and less visible spaces, partly due to what is meant by the notion of masculine gaze and the resulting stereotyped representation of gender roles. Focusing on the work of director and writer Petra Costa - based on the notion of female gaze - this study explores the theme of women and their vision of themselves and their own experience with the objective of producing knowledge and new female images. The method employed was a qualitative research based on the symbolic approach proposed by analytical psychology, from which the technique of reading of films was developed as an analysis procedure. Analytical psychology served as a field of discussion on the paradigmatic deconstruction and dissolution of essentialisms, providing a substrate for a symbolic understanding of the impact of these images on identity construction in individual and collective contexts. The analysis of the main female characters of the movies Elena (2012) and Olmo e Gaivota (2014) emerged from a symbolic and historical understanding of their particular narratives, articulated with the collective and cultural images they evoked, revealing the presence of processes of identification and separation of their identities that were up to that moment fused to the female figures that have their origin in a broad cultural context and in a transgenerational transmission of conflicts in their family histories / A motivação para o presente trabalho deriva das reflexões deflagradas pelo livro escrito por Virgínia Woolf na década de 1920, intitulado Um teto todo seu (2014) e pelo momento atual, em que o espaço da mulher na sociedade e os próprios discursos feministas são repensados e discutidos no meio acadêmico e na mídia.

Le système défensif de Pétra (Jordanie) et de ses environs à l'époque nabatéenne à travers les sources archéologiques, littéraires et épigraphiques / The defensive system of Petra (Jordan) and its surroundings in the Nabatean period through the archaeological, literary and epigraphic sources

Renoult, Bénédicte 13 December 2014 (has links)
Since the first archaeological researches were carried out at Petra in the early 20th century, some questions regarding the defense of the city haven’t been tackled: there is still no consensus on the existence of fortifications and their dating, especially when it comes to the Nabatean period. The purpose of the present study is to determine, thanks to an inventory of archaeological site surface remains, the existence of a possible defense system relying on a network of fortifications and observation posts, and specify its chronology through the survey of building techniques and surface pottery analysis. According to the distribution of the listed defensive remains, the defense of the city seems to have been ensured by a system which controls strategic locations in a territory including the peripheral areas of the city. Volume I first puts Petra in its natural environment, describes its urban space and presents the geopolitical context of Nabataea. It is then focused on the archaeological study of the defensive system of the Nabataeans from Petra: the history of research on this subject, the military organization and architecture of the Nabateans, the analysis of the distribution of the defensive remains according to their type, complemented with datings and interpretations on the function of each remain. It ends by a comparative study with other defensive systems developed in other times in Petra and in other places, Nabataeans or Hasmoneans. The volume II is dedicated to the catalog which describes the various areas where defensive remains were recorded. Finally, the volumes III and III bis are specifically dedicated to illustrations.

Blohm, Karl-Heinz 09 December 1988 (has links) (PDF)

The Arab street : a photographic exploration

Cheney, Clifford Sidney 22 September 2010 (has links)
Journalists use the term Arab Street to describe what they often imply is a volatile Arabic public opinion. This photo story travels through four Arab areas or Jordan, Qatar, Israel/Palestine and Egypt in order to show the diversity and complexity of each. The media’s tendency to lump all Arabs into one political block is detrimental to a true sense of cultural understanding that is required for peace. / text

A green utopia : the legacy of Petra Kelly

Lloyd, Rebecca Jane January 2005 (has links)
[Truncated introduction] This thesis will introduce Petra Karin Kelly, former Green politician and campaigner for social justice and environmental issues to an English-speaking audience as an important figure in the development of ideas relating to ecofeminism, nonviolence, and Green politics and utopias. Kelly, born in 1947 in Germany, spent the latter half of her childhood in the United States, and attended university there before returning to Europe. While working with the European Community in Brussels, Kelly became involved in grassroots politics in Germany and was one of the co-founders of the German green party, Die Grunen, (literally: the Greens) in 1979. She was to become a formidable politician through her passion for grassroots politics, nonviolence and feminism and her excellent leadership skills. Later ostracised by the party, due in part to her inability and unwillingness to conform to party rules, Kelly worked independently, giving speeches and promoting peace and the importance of human rights. However, at the age of 44, she was murdered by her partner, Gert Bastian, who then shot himself. It should be noted that texts so far written on Petra Kelly have been essentially biographies, which, while encompassing much of her academic and political life, focus heavily upon her personal life, in particular her relationships with married men, and her long term relationship with former NATO General Gert Bastian ... Therefore, the aim of the dissertation is not to ignore the importance of personal matters, rather to ensure a professional approach towards them. For this reason, the focus of this sociopolitical and sociohistorical thesis is upon the elements of ecofeminism, nonviolence and utopia as they relate to Petra Kelly’s politics, both within her role with Die Grunen and in her political life outside of German parliament.

Delhopital, Nathalie 23 January 2010 (has links)
The Nabataeans are an ancient tribe of north-west Saudi who has known prosperity between the 1st century BC and 1st century AD. For the considered period and the population, burial practices are so far known mostly from the architecture of cemeteries and epigraphy. An archaeo-anthropological analysis of the sites was indispensable and is an important part of this work introduced by a recall of pre-existing data. The burial practices are understood by following the methods of anthropological field applied to two Jordanian sites (Khirbet edh-Dharih, Petra) and Saudi Arabia (Madâ’in Sâlih). This approach allows us to relate funerary gestures with an analysis of recruitment and the archaeological materials found in the graves. For each site, an anthropological analysis incorporating various aspects (morphometry, anatomical variations, stress indicators and other disorders) was conducted in order to define the biological identity of buried human groups. This work led to the interface of biological and cultural. It brings a new point of view on the Nabatean population and, for the first time, it allows a wide inter-sites and intra-sites comparison. The three sites selected allows to confront information from a village, Dharih , to those of two of the most important cities of the Nabatean kingdom, Petra and Mada'in Salih.

Sorosova centra současného umění: Atelier NOON v Praze 1999-2002 / Soros centers for contemporary art: Atelier NOON in Prague 1999-2002

Schulmeisterová, Dita January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with George Soros foundation network, specifically with the Soros centers for contemporary art, their support of the art in post-soviet countries and the following transformation. One of the important tasks was support for artists in the form of grants. Attention is focused on one specific case and that is the gallery Atelier NOON, which was based in Prague in Smichov in 1999 - 2002. It was an unconventional combination of the art studio, that belong to the artist Petra Nováková Ondreičková, and exhibition space. The gallery is shown in context of contemporary art scene from those times, and it is also trying to show similar unconventional exhibition spaces. Keywords George Soros, Soros foundation network, SCCA, gallery, Atelier NOON, Petra Nováková Ondreičková, exhibition, 90', apartmant gallery

Tessellated Pictures and Traditional Piety

Higham, Matthew K. 20 April 2021 (has links)
Nearly 300 years before the rise of a ‘Christianized,’ Eastern Roman Empire, generations of inhabitants in the Eastern Mediterranean and Near East had witnessed a considerable variety and evolution of religious thought. As a result of the expansion of Christian sects throughout the Near East and Mediterranean, in 325 CE, Emperor Constantine I convened a theological council to unite his vast kingdom in the East under a single religious creed. While revisions to the text of the first ‘Nicene Creed’ and subsequent councils would be organized, many dissenting factions refused to relinquish their long-held beliefs and traditions. Some of these ‘heterodox’ sects resisted the religious arm of the Empire and concealed their practices while continuing to worship in secrecy. Clues to the subversion of ‘orthodox’ ecclesiastical mandate may still persist in the mosaic programs of extant churches in the Mediterranean and Transjordan. In particular, the general design of mosaics in the Transjordan (e.g., the Petra Church, Petra; the Church of SS. Lot and Procopius, Khirbet al-Mukhayyat; and the Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian, Jerash) are somewhat similar, yet divergent from designs found within churches from the Italian Peninsula (e.g., the Theodorean Basilical Complex, Aquileia; the Church of San Vitale, Ravenna; and the Church of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, Classe). The purpose of this thesis is to use the principles of semiotic theory to re-evaluate the use of symbols and icons within sacred mosaic programs, juxtaposed against the historical and ecclesiastical context surrounding their creation.
