No. of bitstreams: 1 Tese Claudia Wirz.pdf: 772696 bytes, checksum: d3908fdd3e13fa53dcd21658a5baebcd (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-08-30 / The general objective of this study was to identify the factors that influence the decision to participate with foreign direct investment (FDI) in emerging markets in the generation of electric power. To achieve the objective proposed, first, it was identified, systematized and integrated theories, treatments and theoretical approaches on the field of economics, strategy and internationalization of enterprises that influence the strategic decision to participate with foreign direct investment (FDI) in developing countries in electric power industry, as well it was identified in the literature the main factors that determine the strategic choice to participate with foreign direct investment (FDI) in emerging markets. Based on this systematization and integration, a framework was developed incorporating new elements, which in the specific case of the electric power industry in emerging countries were not previously addressed in FDI strategies. In this work it was also identified relationships between the concepts, dimensions, subdimensions, and the variables to be tested in later studies. This study also identified and described the main features of FDI in the electric power industry in emerging countries, with two important contributions: it was observed that the investment in new technologies took place in developed countries and there was the migration of mature technologies to developing countries (compatible with product life cycle theory of Vernon) and that some studies attribute low returns to foreign investors in regulated sectors, while others highlight the high profits in international investments in regulated industries, such as the energy sector. Finally, a new concept of developing country was proposed, through the inclusion of human (human assets) and technological factors (degree of industrialization and innovation capacity) in addition to the economic factors currently used (income and economic vulnerability). It is recommended that further research be undertaken, for example, with respect to the impact of the various technologies for generation of electric power on the decision to enter emerging countries by FDI, consolidation of the data bases of the various institutions responsible for gathering information on FDI, research into the varying perceptions presented by specialists and companies in relation to the FDI strategy of companies. It is also possible to replicate this study in other segments and industries.

Initially we sought to know the GRI and its environmental indicators. Then, companies generating electricity type HPP (HPP) to participate in the research were selected. Depending on the selection criteria used, only four remained in the study sustainability reports for the following companies: Tractebel Energia, CELESC, BAESA and Machadinho Consortium and Maesa. Next, we determined whether the principles established by the GRI were present in sustainability reports of companies. For this, we used the set of tests relevant factors proposed by the GRI. To process the data collected adopted the methodology of content analysis and to assist in analyzing the Atlas.ti software was chosen. Subsequently, we sought to identify the level of compliance by enterprises to key environmental indicators of the GRI. Initially, there was a comparison of what the company informed about the environmental performance indicator of what the GRI protocol provided for that indicator. Then calculate the extent of the essential GRI indicators using a formula developed by Dias. Siqueira e Rossi. (2006. The results showed that the reports of the companies surveyed have snippets corresponding to most relevant factors related to the GRI principles, the principles of both the content and quality text. Other findings show that the level of application of the Reporting Framework influence at the principles and stages of maturity in relation to the use of indicators reflected in the use of the principles. The degree of compliance, it was found that Tractebel Energia was ranked first in the ranking of the core environmental indicators GRI, followed by CELESC, BAESA and Machadinho Consortium and Maesa grip. Based on these, we conclude that the applicability of the GRI reporting framework still needs to evolve enough so that stakeholders can have access to the actual level of economic, social and environmental responsibility of organizations.

Initially, the evolution of the Brazilian electric power industry is discussed, with emphasis on the role played by the companies making up the so-called ¿dam industry¿, the recent re-organization of the Brazilian power sector; and the social changes that have been occurring in the regions the hydro power plants have been implemented, or are planned to be built. Next, some selected cases of hydro power plants in other countries were studied, with special attention for the binational Yacyretá Hydro Power Plant, in the Paraná river, border between Argentina and Paraguay. For the Brazilian study-cases, some dams formed between 2003 and 2006 were selected; together with a Small Hydro Power Plant named Mosquitão, located at the river Caiapó, in the State of Goiás, and some projects included in the auctions of hydro power plant concessions carried out by the Brazilian power sector¿s independent regulatory agency (ANEEL) in the years 2005 and 2006. A comparative analysis of these cases revealed that the ¿dam industry¿ does not deal fairly with the social problems related to the hydro power plants. The thesis is concluded showing the increasing difficulties faced by the government and the ¿dam industry¿ to build new hydro power plants in the country, despite all their efforts / Mestrado / Mestre em Planejamento de Sistemas Energéticos

Alternativní kameniva na bázi druhotných surovin z energetického průmyslu / Alternative aggregates based on secondary raw materials from power industry

Kratochvíl, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
The current usage of both classical and fluid combustion ashes is not sufficient and they are deposited in large quantities. The focus of this master´s thesis is to determine and verify some possibilities of their suitable applications in construction industry, specifically as the alternative aggregates for concrete. After the performed analysis several systems based on both classical and fluid combustion ashes have been proposed. Portland cement and hydrated lime were used as admixtures and binding properties of fluid combustion ashes were also tested. The most important properties were compressive strength and bulk density. The aim was to appropriate an optimal ratio between the addition of modifying substance and resulting strength of prepared aggregate in order to correspond to standards for aggregates for concrete.

Оценка инвестиционной привлекательности электросетевой компании (на примере ОАО «МРСК УРАЛА») : магистерская диссертация / Assessment of the investment attractiveness of an electric grid company (on the example of Interregional Distribution Grid Company of Urals)

А., Yausheva, Y. A. January 2022 (has links)
The Russian electric grid complex is a strategic and socially significant branch of the economy, as it provides reliable energy supply to consumers, the output of power plants, as well as the flow of capacity and energy between individual power units. However, a significant level of equipment wear and a high accident rate at electric power facilities leads to a decrease in the level of energy security. In order to maintain the main production assets in working order and comply with the development directions set by the “Energy Strategy 2035”, significant investment resources are needed. But access to it is very limited for electric grid companies due to strict state regulation of electricity transmission tariffs. Therefore, the issue of identifying factors that increase the investment attractiveness of electric grid companies becomes particularly relevant. The purpose is a comprehensive assessment of the investment attractiveness of an electric grid company and the development of a mechanism to increase its for private investors. The object of the study is JSC “Interregional Distribution Grid Company of the Urals”. The practical significance lies in the possibility of using the proposed tools for managing investment attractiveness in the operational and strategic activities of Russian electric grid companies.

Eskom nuclear generation : risk mitigation through quality management development of small suppliers

Van Reenen, Olaf Pieter January 2009 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Quality)--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009 / There is a South African Government initiative to use State-owned Enterprises (SOE’s) to roll out a programme for the development and stimulation of local small businesses in South Africa. The state has requested SOE’s to set targets on a voluntary basis to increase trade with small businesses, with the purpose of developing small enterprises to eventually enhance skills transfer, training and employment. However, when large customers such as Eskom Nuclear Generation require ISO certification as a prerequisite for a supplier to provide goods and/or services to them, most small businesses are unable to comply. The requirement of ISO9000 compliance inhibits the ability of most small businesses to compete with their larger counterparts. Small businesses constitute as much as 90% of most world economies. They have many advantages to offer customers, such as a high level of flexibility, innovation and responsiveness to customer needs. These attributes can introduce healthy competition to the supply chain. Small businesses, by their very nature experience more risks, such as a higher vulnerability to volatile market forces and skills loss. In addition, they are generally less specialised. They are under continuous competitive pressure, and are generally not able to provide assurance of a sustainable product over a longer period. Although there is an imperative to develop and use small suppliers, they introduce higher risk to the supply chain. The primary research objective of this dissertation is to develop a robust model to identify risks inherent to small businesses, and to propose measures to mitigate such risks. A classification of problems with small suppliers that have occurred at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station over a period of 3 years (from June 2005 to May 2008), will form the basis of the research methodology. The anticipated findings of the research include the following. _ Several common critical issues of failure will be identified in the internal processes of small suppliers, with variations between types of suppliers, which will indicate which elements within the context of ISO9000 can be applied to address shortcoming in the suppliers’ processes. _ A matrix will be compiled from this by which the customer can identify the type of supplier, the types of risks inherent to that supplier, and which elements of ISO9000 the customer should insist upon to be adopted into an elementary quality management system of that small supplier. This should be executed as part of a larger supplier development programme.

European Electricity Market and EU Members'Energy Policies / Evropský trh s elektřinou a energetické politiky států EU

Veselý, Aleš January 2012 (has links)
The main focus of this thesis is to find out what factors have the biggest influence on the price of electricity for household consumers in the European Union in the context of creating the internal electricity market in the EU. By means of the cluster analysis six EU Member States have been selected according to the following criteria: electricity consumption, electricity production, and the price of electricity. As a result of that Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Malta and Sweden have been selected. Consequently, the regression analysis has been carried out to find out what factors influence the electricity prices in every country individually. The independent variables are mainly various sources of electricity production. It was found out those renewable resources most influent the electricity price for households in Belgium, Estonia, Hungary, and Sweden. Nevertheless, in the context of Europe 2020 strategy and the formation of the European energy market, one of the European Commission's objectives is to increase the share of renewable sources in the production of electricity in the EU Member States. Therefore, it will bring about higher prices of electricity, which goes against the Commission's effort to decrease the price of electricity for households through the liberalisation of electricity and the creation of the internal electricity market.
